KJ softening tone towards Maloofs?

I don't think it says the Maloofs have a change of heart. I think it says that KJ hopes they would prefer the team in Sacramento. BTW, I think KJ's trying to keep the lines open to the Maloofs, despite the rage some of us feel, is a good idea. The Maloofs can still make this a mess and if the city or at least KJ tries to make nicey nice with them, they may be less inclined to try to throw a monkey wrench into the whole deal.

OK I agree. I may have jumped the gun a bit on this one. Oops!

Well, for our sake then, let's hope KJ is right and that the Misters Maloof do indeed have a change of heart. Cuz we gotta KEEP THE KINGS IN SACRAMENTO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It also helps the cause when it's presented in front of the BOG.

The original thread title suggested that the Maloofs were having a change of heart. I've changed the title to more properly reflect what's being discussed in the article by Scott Howard-Cooper, which suggests KJ is playing nice and being conciliatory in his comments regarding the Maloofs.

The Maloofs will sell their team for the highest price they can get. Period. They aren't going to have a change of heart about anything because for them it has been and will be about the $$$.

KJ is all class, something Maloofs are clearly not. My mother told me long time ago, if you can't say something good about someone, don't say anything at all. I try to live by that - it seems KJ does too.

Like I previously said, I jumped the gun quite a bit on this one. My apologies.

I know there's been some speculation on whether the Maloofs are getting anything additional out of the Seattle deal (other than what we know about-- the huge sale price and the $30 million deposit). Despite them getting a better & bigger offer than anyone could've expected, their egos are such that I'm sure they asked for many things that were unreasonable. They probably wanted to have some sort of involvement so they weren't completely cut off from the NBA, considering that I'm sure selling was a difficult decision for them because they supposedly regretted selling of the Rockets years ago. I'm sure any kind of direct involvement with the team was out of the question for the Seattle group, but is it possible that certain accomodiations were made as a further enticement? A box suite for them, perhaps a contract for the franchise to do some sort of business with them in the future, free or reduced advertising for Maloof related ventures, an opportunity to buy some shares back after the relocation, etc. Not that the sale price they got wouldn't have been enough for any other owner who needed to sell, but we all know these guys tried to squeeze everything they could out of the deal. The question is, did they get anything else? I shudder to think that when the BOG turns down the sale that the Sacramento group will then have to deal with these guys again. Stern has made it clear that they won't decide who the team is sold to, but that doesn't mean they'll be completely out of the picture either. In order to help them go gently into that seedy Vegas night, there will need to be ***-kissing and probably some accomodations made that will seem ridiculous.

Just a gentle reminder: The sniping and insults among posters (and I've been guilty myself) is not in keeping with the rules and traditions of KF. Let's take a page from KJ's playbook and be nice. Thanks...

You're hilarious. I swear you're the most uninformed poster here. THE MALOOFS HAVE NO SAY IN THIS MATTER WHATSOEVER.

That has been made clear by just about everybody.

Actually, sdballer's comment was right on. There is nothing in the article that suggests the Maloofs have had a change in heart, which is why I edited the title of the thread.

Somebody can jump in and correct me but I think a lot of assumptions have been made. One is that now that the Maloofs have offered the team for sale and have a signed contract that they have lost all control of the team. The other is that the league will invoke the "for the good of the league" clause and take the team from the Maloofs' decision making process. Nothing is clear to me and certainly not to the extent that I would make fun of a fellow poster. If you want to make fun of me, give it a try.

Ok ok you're right.

But I do stand by the fact that the Maloofs really have lost all control in this matter. Or at least 95% of it. This was essentially reported by John Shirey, who said that the team WILL be sold. And then patched with information from Stern that "an owner who had decided to exit the league does not retain the right to decide where that franchise will be located (or who the next owners will be)" Put those two together and you basically have a situation where the Maloofs are absolutely not going to own the team and they have no say who will be the next owner, which is pretty much standard.

I had a misfire on that post. I wasn't aware of the original title of the article, etc. His comment makes much more sense in that context. My bad sdballer.

This is good strategy from KJ. A lot of us fans have a lot anger toward the Maloofs, Hansen/Ballmer, and the Seattle fans. What I think will make Sacramento look the best, is to discuss our side positively, and to refrain from negative comments about anyone else in the process. There's no need for bashing anyone - we have the strongest proposal and we don't have to resort to that level.

No problem. Emotions are running hot right now which is to be expected. And I am on the more pessimistic side of this. I've spent my professional life working both sides of this kind of business and have been consistently disappointed by what greed and lack of emotional consideration can lead rich people to do. I hope despite my cloudier outlook that it never comes off as anything but the strongest desire to keep the kings in sac. I haven't lived in sac for close to 20 years but kings related memories are some of the finest of my childhood and there are generations of little sac town kids that deserve the same.

As long as the team remains in the Maloofs hands they have the ability to do some type of damage. As soon as the team is in our whales hands the mayor and everyone else will be able to speak freely about the Magoofs

The mayor has way too much class to say anything negative about the Maloofs after the fact.

If we get to keep the team, that will be all the statement we need to make. And when we win a championship, we don't have to share it. ;)
