My question is who is even making these calls to work these players out? I thought we had no personnel in place yet. I doubt it's Coach Malone.

I'd assume the decisions on working out these players were made by Geoff Petrie, along with whomever Vivek wants to be involved. It was already announced that GP will be sticking around for the transition.

Scheduling pre-draft workouts isn't rocket science. And those are just the first of a good number of players that will be scheduled. With Malone being confirmed as the new head coach, I'm sure he'll have some staff in place very quickly.

I'm sure there's been a lot of work behind the scenes. Malone isn't coming in blind, or without input. As you said, Petrie is still there along with the scouting dept and assistants. The Kings had people at the New Jersey workouts and the Minny workouts, as well as the workout in LA. The beat goes on!!!

Would not minde Triche as a 2nd round pick @ all I like him, but really are any of those guys lottery picks?

Rudy Gobert is supposed to be a lottery big, but he's a huge project, maybe even a Hassan Whiteside level project. :/

Yeah, I'd be surprised if he was truly in play at #7, but he'll obviously be gone by #36. I think it's more of a due diligence if-we-trade-for-a-pick kind of things.

as not fun as that sounds, atleast we will actually have a staff and management to develop the project this time.....

Im behind Malone and really really hope he does well. I don't get this assumption that we are gonna have the magnificant staff thats going to develop players like we have never seen and just gonna turn things around from day one. Where is this coming from?

I am usually not a negative person especially with the Kings I am optimistic but after being burned for 7 years you kinda keep your guard up and not taut the new guys and the next coming. Just wait and hope.

I look at drafting Gobert with the 7th pick like this: if he is picked 7th, then he obviously impressed the Kings enough to pick him there, and other teams obviously have interest in him as well. Probably would mean they think he'll be ready sooner (1 year) than later (2+ years). If you have to trade down into the 18-25 range, I'm not sure I'd really want him.

DX has him mocked at #10, so I really don't think #7 is out of the question at this point.

Personally I think using the 7th pick on Rudy Gobert would be insane. He's a French Version of a poor man's George Muresan, lacks athleticism, lacks any sort of an offensive game, and guys that fragile are prone to, and often do, break. If he could be picked up with the second pick, might be worth it. Hell, trade Jimmer for a more reasonable pick. Gobert isn't projected to go anywhere near 7th.
