Keegan Murray is rather important to the team in case anyone forgot
In the end, hopefully they are so good that this we can figure out Murray later thing can last. KZ played great defense for sure, the talent is the question now that preseason domination appears to be over. Then it becomes a question of bench scoring. Murray was best as a stretch catch and shoot player anways so I'm not sure him being on the bench is that critical. That's when Monk has to earn his paycheck though. He's not a PG, score that dang ball.

The only thing I can come up with is whoopy ding the refs were just so frustrating
I counted 13 points the Blazers got off crapty calls, and that was being pretty generous.

My wife can vouch, I pointed them out in real time and she counted it back to me, and thought she left a couple out.

It was not only momentum changing but free throws and extra possession allowing.

Idk how to make that more fair but it was pretty one sided tonight.

TD was only at SF because Keegan was out so I'll be curious how that second unit looks when our 6'8/9" wing forward is playing.
Yeah, and Brown better find out sooner than later what that means to the minutes he has at this disposal and how they go together. This is a very guard heavy team again and even smaller in some ways than last year at that G/F spot. It might be end up being something where he does indeed look at playing more of his combo F's together so he can find ways to trickle in those guards between them.

Disappointing.

Too many free throws, second chance points, and points off turnovers for Portland. Straight up I thought the Kings mostly did well defensively but they didn’t finish defensive possessions and went through too many sloppy spells mixed with FG droughts…especially when Fox or Huerter or both were out of the game.

Any lofty expectations for the Kings obviously assume that Sabonis even on his worst nights is a double double. This was a terrible out of control game from the start. He didn’t score much, he didn’t rebound, he didn’t do much facilitating. It didn’t seem to matter the style of matchup either. At first I thought maybe Nurkic and Eubanks were big boys up to the task on this night… but then he can’t get anything on clear mismatches either…so Domas was just terrible tonight.

If Domas was merely average tonight, the Kings probably win with a decent cushion.

Barnes was OK. We need more offense from him. Front court was mostly bad or quiet across the board.

the refs were lousy all game but that TD tech sucked the momentum out of the arena and turned a 2 point game into a 1point game. It was massive and it fell apart from there. You can’t call that trash.

Loved Huerter. The Kings were running away with the game until the exact moment he came out in the third. Didn’t get back in order until he returned in the 4th but by that point it was a toss up. Completely in control. Awesome player.

Fox had a great game outside of the turnovers.

TD was strong.

Mitchell stood out defensively as usual but the missed shots do start to add up as they did in that 3rd…but he’s going to be a big part.

Monk seems like he’ll be OK. Might be trying to do too much. There’s probably a lot more competition for minutes than he was anticipating. I think most of us assumed TD wouldn’t be getting the opportunities he got in preseason and opening night but Brown likes him…and he’s played better than Monk. He had a couple of nice plays but had some unforced errors.

Holmes needs to be better. Lyles needs to be better.

The turnovers were a problem in pre-season as well. I think we are only seeing a fraction of Brown's offense as much of the effort so far was to get this team to be mediocre instead of history-of-the-league bad on defense.
Agreed. The funny thing is that in the first preseason game they were outstanding in the TO department, maybe because the offense was so simple at that point. I do think Brown is going to clean up the TOs down the line. Part of it is because of the newness of the offense and they just don't have the patience to go to their progressions.

the BS tech followed by the kick ball swung the game and I don't care about anything else.

and there were a half dozen calls made after Brown's challenge that were highly suspect to close out the 1st qtr and open the 2nd. I don't know if this Corky bastard took it upon himself to make Brown's night hell for daring to challenge so early. Not looking forward to reading the two minute report.

Barnes will not come off the bench in a kings uniform ever. He was named one of the 3 starters from get go. No debate even if it should happen it wont
Brown isn't the sorta guy that locks himself into something that doesn't work like previous Kings coaches.

That is not fair at all. He was staying in shape and also playing for his country.

They at least have civic pride. Don't bring this up.
It’s completely fair. You’re getting paid millions of dollars for a job and you aren’t there to give it your all. Maybe civic pride and the other important things that decision generates are worth that, but with that much money in play it’s a valid question.

The thing is Bogi had a long history of nagging injuries he never let heal with his no-offseason play. Sabonis had a bad game, maybe pump the brakes for a week or two.

I didn't say he was. I said Barnes not coming off bench.
I think it depends on how committed Brown is to KZ as a starter. Because it makes a lot more sense for Keegan to replace Barnes 15-20 games in as starter if he proves worthy. It's not something immediate but it absolutely can happen midway through the season.

As of right now, they don't even play same position. KZ needs to go to bench. And Barnes stay at the 3 with Murray at 4

Sir you know what I mean. They dang sure ain't a playoff caliber team. I guess any team with dame can't be tanking. But they close
No. That’s a completely different statement. Losing to a team trying to tank = losing to a team that isn’t trying. We lost to a team many thought would finish with a similar record as us. It was a tough game, but could have gone either way.
