[Game] Kings vs Clippers 5 April 2012, 22:00 EST

We probably win this with a coach who can substitute correctly or draw up a halfway decent inbounds play.

I honestly hope he was coaching the game to lose. Taking Thompson out and leaving jimmer in at the end was simply idiotic.

Role players brought it tonight. Hayes/It/JT/T-Will all had strong games. I put this one on Smart taking Hayes off of Griffin the last 3 minutes and Cousins/Evans not playing well enough as team leaders

That it was. Not sure Reke on Kenyon F'ing Martin is that smart either. But when you coach one end, that's the kind of decisions you get.

JT had to come out or risk his legs falling off. Hayes being subbed out on the other hand was the stupid move of the night from Smart

Not sure how either of them can be blamed by someone who watched the game... Cousins was tied to the bench with fouls all game, and Tyreke had a solid first half and then was iced out most of the second half and on the bench for a large portion of the fourth. They really didn't have that many minutes between the two of them at all, and no real opportunity to affect the outcome of this.

IT
Reke
Williams
Hayes
Cousins

should have been our end of the game lineup the last 3 minutes. Smart blew it taking Hayes off Griffin
See, we agree on something. This caused Reke to guard KMart, putting Cuz in a no win situation guarding Blake on the perimeter. Flat out stupid. And you know what seemed to lead to it, as Reke and Cuz were about to sub in at the 3min mark, was Jimmer hitting that 3 right before the timeout. Thought Jimmer would come out. Instead out of the timeout Reke stayed on the bench, Cuz came in(I'm guessing to ride Jimmer?, as why else would Reke have not come in after being at the scorers table), leading to Smart bringing Reke in for Hayes a min later. Just should have let Jimmer finish on a high after hitting that 3, and brought in Cuz/Reke, brought out Jimmer and left Chuck in.

Just appeared to me that Jimmer 3 is what set this all in motion in Smarts mind. Did Jimmers 3 mean more to Smart than CHucks defense on Blake? Yes, imo.

Seemed as Reke started getting aggressive, and right after finishing the +1 he was taken out and didnt come back until around the 2 min mark. Surprised by that because even though he missed some layups he was our best creator on the night and we probably could have used some of that. Instead of having Jimmer take Reke's mins, would have liked to see both out there some of the time. They play well together.

But that being said, and even with Cuz in foul trouble we probably win if it wasn't for the sub patterns at the end. Just too damn small. Not resting IT in the 2nd half was also a mistake. Let Reke and Jimmer play some, and let IT get at least a little rest if your plan is to have him on CP3 at the end! Have to think IT was tired at the end, and why put him in that situation against CP3?

Probably. You can play 38 min, but 42 = legs fall off. No NBA coach does that. Scratch that. No currently employed NBA coach does that. Guy is your top player on the night, its a tight game late, YOU RIDE HIM HOME. Complete insanity to sub these guys out. Same thing he did with Reke a few game ago. You call an extra timeout if needed to get a little rest. You don't pull your best players with 4 minutes to go.

Unless you really are trying to tank. There always is that.

Putting Cousins with three fouls on Griffin at the start of the third was also a huge mistake. I think it's safe to say at this point that Smart can't manage a game.

Unles you really are trying to tank. There always is that.

So you'd let Boogie ride the pine then? I don't agree with that. JT played a monster game, but Hayes's defense on Griffin was a big reason we were in this game in the first place.

No kidding. I am not an expert on subbing although at times I think I have a decent clue what to do. This was asinine.

This might be it. Dont know for sure, but maybe.

Smart didnt really think Cousins could guard Griffin did he?

The officiating in the game was questionable to say the least, but it may work in our favor if we're linning.

It's a dumb move to work for lins with this team. You have your potential 1-2 punch already. You're not getting the first pick in the draft (at least, not without a little luck). There are already good enough players available for where you'll probably be picking, and it's safe to say that you're going to be in the lottery, so you're keeping the pick this year. These guys need to learn what it's like to win, and they need a coach that's going to get them there.

But but it takes intelligent work to create a system that our current guys can use to best effect. Why not just keep losing and maybe we will somehow just fall into the guys that fit perfectly together....

Garcia is a very underrated help defender. I mentioned last year when we were talking about blocks that he was second per 40 on the team he is the perfect role player if he could just hit the open shots. I wonder if we would have been playing him regular minutes instead of Salmons and Outlaw if he would have been in a shooting rhythm by this time?
