[Game] Kings versus Rockets 12/19/10 Game Thread

I don't mind Cousins driving the ball there, because quite frankly his team hasn't been feeding him the ball much in this quarter and he might as well try to get his own shot.

Pretty much, they keep ignoring him so he turns into Evans and tries to do his own iso. Problem is, when he starts at the arc, it hardly ever works.

Looking up at 5-20 I think you can fairly say at this point that wins hurt you more than losses so it's a moral victory anyway. We're not making the playoffs. And Cousins looked pretty unstoppable when they actually got him the ball today... until that play right there. I'll just pretend I didn't see that.

Bothersome sign: Cousins looks frustrated, and this frustration directly follows his making points and plays, and watching Tyreke still force shots and ice him out. Directly following this, DMC forces two drives probably not within the offense.

It's great that the team has two potential stars, but they have no on the court chemistry, and its the ball handlers job to create that chemistry.

That's what happens when his team don't realize he can be effective inside and is our best bet to score or get a double team drawn.

I say we should just sit Reke. He shows little flashes, but he's clearly not all there and is hurting us way more than hes helping us.

I just think both of them were frustrated that a winnable game was slipping away and they forced plays in response. I think you're reading too much into it to say that one affected the other. Both of these guys can score when they play to their strengths but they turn the ball over or just miss badly when they try to do too much. It's a maturity, poise thing more than a chemistry thing I think. Tonight you look at how well they played the majority of the game and hope they learned something about how not to close out a game at home.

That's what happens when nobody wants to pass the ball, it's unfortunate but it is what it is and at this point it doesn't look like it's fixable until some serious mentoring happens.

Tyreke with the WORST takeover attempt I have EVER seen. Tyreke for Houston Rockets MVP.

Kevin Martin the problem? Clearly it is Evans who didn't and does not want to share the ball.

Evans unfortunately right now is just a pretty selfish player, he might show spurts of passing the ball but really that's fools gold. Sure, he might be able to learn how to get teammates more evolved but he first has to worry about improving his own game, BIG time before we can even start talking about the other stuff.

I think this was closer to the truth. These gamnes are there, and then they go away, and these guys want to win them. Must be as frustrating for them as it is for us.

Clearly? I know hyperbole is pretty much a given on the internet but trying to throw this loss all on Tyreke is just being willfully vindictive. He took some bad shots. So did Landry, Dalembert, even Cousins at the end there. We lost from the combined effort of giving away too many possessions in the fourth quarter. We should have gone to Cousins on offense sooner. They would have been forced to double team him.

The problem with Tyreke this season is that, firstly, the foot injury is limiting his ability to get to the basket and more importantly to finish comfortably when he gets there. That's half his misses in this game. And secondly, trying to work in a shaky pull up jumpshot into his offense is killing his scoring efficiency. Battier wasn't even the problem in this one. He hit just as many step-back jumpers with Battier in his face as he missed but it's an inefficient way to score for anyone in the league, even Kobe Bryant. What I'd like to see him do is keep taking the three point shots but table the midrange pull-up jumper till next season.

It's not like Cousins needs someone to create a shot for him. Anyone can get him the ball in the post, but not if they're wasting possessions on low percentage jumpers.

Cousins continues to show improvement and major talent. I hope he doesn't have a lapse anytime soon.

Did anybody notice with about 5:30 left in the game Cousins was yelling at Beno. He was pissed. Beno didn't say anything. Maybe because he thought Cousins had a point? Maybe because he didn't want to get into an argument? I have no idea which. It would have been nice to have courtside seats to know what it was about.

I'll say this for Cousins, if he does mature and get himself under control and get a warrior's mentallity in which he doesn't lose focus because of his frustration, as strange as it may sound, I think he has major leadership potential. Why? Because he doesn't give a sh** about going along to get along. He's not exactly timid about letting you know what he thinks, even with a veteran point guard on his own team. That can be a very bad thing, or a very good thing down the line. Obviously, I hope the latter.

Tyreke continues to not be Tyreke. Until he becomes Tyreke, Kings will most likely continue to lose. This is a time for Tyreke to focus on making the intelligent plays on the court like a savy veteran. If you don't have it physically, you better be good mentally. Unfortunately, Tyreke has not been making good decisions with the ball. Westphal gave him the "what for" late in the game when Tyreke went one on five.

PS I really hope the Kings can get a win for Christmas. It's not like these guys aren't trying to win. They continue to play hard, despite the losing, and want to win soooo badly that they make unintelligent plays. They need a win badly for their moral.
