The Warriors have big-ass guards/wings, a small 4 spot, and one big man.
We have the big man advantage: WCS + Cousins means that we can guard the stretch 4 while still maintaining our size advantage on the offensive end. WCS needs to develop a post game and a mid range jumper in order to be effective. In my opinion, post game development is more urgent in order to punish the opponent with size advantage. On a Cousins post-up, WCS can stay on the block for a rebound -- no big deal if he doesn't have a mid range jumper. But it would be better if he were a little outside, though, and a mid-range jumper would give Cousins a bit more space. But still, the post game is more urgent.
We are crippled by our small wings and guards. When the Warriors play three 6'7 guys on the wings, and maybe even Livingston (6'7) at the point, and when we play one 6'0 guard and two 6'5 wings, or two 6'0 guards and one 6'5 wing, or two 6'0 guards and one 6'2 wing, we are only reaffirming something that all people that have played at least a minute of basketball know about: size matters
A LOT. Do you really think a 6'0 midget running at a 6'7 3pt shooter would distract the shooter? Maybe for a 6'3 shooter, but not a 6'7 shooter for sure. On top of that, they can post us up, and we tend to double more than we should.
At least let them prove to us that they can post up, before we double. When we double, we give them open 3pt shots all day.
So a *true* small ball lineup will: 1) not affect tall shooters, 2) open up post-up situations, and finally 3)
kill us with switches. Guess why we double a lot? 6'0 guard on Dirk. 6'0 guard on Draymond Green. Guess why, after a switch, it is just *sometimes* difficult to defend a 3pt shooter? We have Koufos and Cousins on the floor at once. We need another big man like WCS: 6'10, a bit mobile. Preferably with a post game, and a mid-range jumper is would only be a cherry on top. Even a 6'9 guy would satisfy me. Can't have too many Casspi's on a team, can we? You know, counter their 6'7 guys with mobile 6'9 guys?
We need bigger people.
