Kings training camp 2025 open thread

For what it’s worth Cardwell also had a grey jersey so I’m not sure these are particularly indicative of the depth chart at this particular moment in time and more just how guys were split up for drills.

Yeah, and some of the guys had different jerseys yesterday. We always get this jersey thing in camp and it almost never pans out, lol.

Sounds like Malik is ready to go back to the 6th man role this year.

I know he's been the popular to name to trade, but damn do I want Malik here long-term. Dude is just such a fun guy to root for and I think he's really embraced this team and community.

Also thought his description of the 1 vs 2 was real real interesting. That being a 1 at the NBA level has to be your "whole identity" and you have to lead the team on both ends of the floor. And the 2 you just "get to go play basketball"

I obviously think he's an incredibly dedicated professional, but if I were to prescribe what category Malik would be in, it'd be the 2. Go get to play basketball, bring the energy, bring the fun and spark the team.

It also helps that Vivek didn’t hire the runner up in the GM search to be his new GM’s second in command this time and let Scott pick his own right hand man.
I guess you could also include not hiring a GM that can't run a press conference in the list of small victories.

as for who is who's puppet and stuff like that, ideally the GM is doing the owner's bidding which is putting out the best product on the court with the ultimate goal of winning a championship. I actually do think no matter how poorly we've gone about that, Vivek does actually share that vision.

So he has a focus to look for an identify?😀 So last year they weren't even looking? Translation: We don't know who the heck we are but we're going to try to find it whereas last year we didn't try.
After super enjoyable Season 1 with Mike Brown in which both Domas and Fox were tasked with running different looks of the offense, the team went away from the DHO and put the ball in Fox's hands full time. Brown was fired and by the time Zach arrived the offensive focal point had been traded and the lead assistant was out the door.

Zach just showed up and had to fit in with minimal practice. With no true PG save for Fultz who had been out of the league it's hard to imagine what coaching that team would be like, not to mention that Domas and Zach really struggled to get their games together. I think that regardless how anyone feels about either of these guys on the defensive end, they definitely can get it together on the offensive side and become a very effective tandem.
