Kings sign Jones, waive Watkins

Bench fodder until Martin comes back.

Might actually get some decent minutes if Douby can't figure it out.

I was actually mildly surprised as to why he wasn't signed before training camp this year; after all, he did put up career numbers last year in Memphis, although that may have been a good thing and a bad thing--1) he was playing on a bad team; 2) escalated per 48 minutes, his all-around numbers--particularly his rebounding, passing and stealing ability--are not impressive at all. Maybe that's why some teams were skeptical of him.

Yes, Jones does have the sleek, smooth athleticism to finish around the rim Kevin Martin style, but finishing is one thing, and getting there is another. Jones's ballhandling skills are questionable, and probably of most concern is his lack of shooting range. I actually happen to think that his mid range game is solid, however, so the coaching staff may see some potential there. But if he's to carve a niche in this league, it's as a defensive stopper. He's thrived on a number of occasions there, but generally he's been hidden in this aspect because of the mere fact that he's been playing on a number of poor/average teams during the course of his NBA career. With scoring not an issue with our ballclub, I think he can definitely bring a defensive edge on the perimeter that's been missing as of late. Nice signing overall.

With Watkins and Williams on the pine and both being somewhat redundant, it's clear that one needed to go. Nice signing and insurance option by getting Jones--hopefully he'll have a Beno Udrih-like impact with us.

In Geoff we trust. Go Geoff Go. Woot!

I knew it was just a matter of time before Geoff would step up with something big and silence the critics!

We now have the most finely tuned 14th roster spot in the league!

I guess we could do worse for an end-of-bencher, but I'm not much of a fan of Jones. Terrible on offense, and really not as good of a rebounder as he should be given his athleticism. Plus, he's already 26, so the potential for a lot of improvement isn't really there. Not a big deal though, once Kevin comes back he'll probably spend the season on the inactive list.

Can you guys tell me what Dahntay Jones brings to the kings?
Other than dunking thats all i know about his game..

I actually liked how watkins plays,he just wasn't given the time to showcase what he got...we should have just sent him to the d-league to have an eye on him....hope dahntay surprises us with his play.........or not....:(

Is that Dahntay Jones?

Holy Rip Curl!! That IS Dahntay Jones on the Kings bench. A 6-6 and 210 SG/SF who played college ball at Duke and the 14th guy for now. In 4th year as pro most recently with the Griz. Makes sense as long as Kevin and Bibbs are out.

And Watkins IS gone. Sonnafagun!!! So that breeds why coach is not using Williams. Guess Hawes is getting all of his minutes.

Edited by mods -- quick note: the orginal link was to a longer mix, but the soundtrack was a pretty extreme gangsta rap song (Obie Trice). That mix is easy enough to find on youtube if you would like and contains many more Dahntay highlights (and many more 4 letter words), but have replaced it here with this shorter one:

Dunking large sums it up.

But he's an NBA player. Had forgotten he remained unsigned. Isn't going to win any games for you, and isn't as good as any of the four swingmen we already have ahead of him. So may play very little. But if called upon, he can at least be solid. Great athlete of course. Kind of the extent of his accomplishments, but you could do worse for an end of the bench/practice squad type guy.

Just as an aside for everybody, but when posting youtubes, if there are options please try to avoid the ones with vile songs consisting of 1 part N-words to 2-parts mother****er if you could. I understand with Dahntay Jones you probably have to take what you can get, but on behalf of all those younger or more innocent than myself:

Not a big fan of Jones. Great athlete, but thats about it. Not a big deal either way. Won't play much unless Salmons and Garcia both have heart attacks or go on strike..

In Wizard game looks like Dahntay is getting large part of Douby minutes. Seems good defender and has size to mix it up. His 210 vs. Douby 180 is big difference. Now lets see if Dahntay earns his minutes vs. just replacing someone as lesser of evils. Has good skill set with 3+ years in league so will give him a chance or three.

i think he will be a good guy at getting to the basket and drawing fouls. He is not a great shooter but Douby is. I guess use the one that best helps you in certain situations. Jones is a better defender than Douby is right now. Douby needs to be working harder as a second year guy or me may find himself out of the league in a few years.

douby needs to go to the nbdl or he'll waste away like all the other rookies we've had on the benches ala gerald wallace.

Douby has been flat out awful this season, i hate it when he steps on the court. I know this is basically his rookie year but PLEASE send him to the D-league.

I find it hard to get mad at Douby when they're trying to force him into a position he's clearly not suited for. Douby is a 2-guard. The only problem is that we have a plethora of 2-guards. We were in desperate need of a PG and TPTB have tried to fit Douby into the role. I'd much rather see him get limited minutes at the 2 then watch him try and continue to be something he's not.

Back to Dahntay for a sac.

He's been given the Haier NBA play of the day on the front page of NBA.com.

Keep it up Mr. Jones!

Douby is and always WILL be a 2 guard, and nothing less. We need to quit with the experiments already. Francisco cant run the point effectively enough to be considered a viable backup at the point, either. If we have no minutes for Q at the 2, the we need to package him up and trade him for something, there must be a team out there looking for a skinny, yet athletic 2 guard that loves to shoot. Let's not let this get as far as our Travis Mays experiment back in the day.
