Kings Sign F David Wear to 10-Day Contract

It's good that we're getting young blood flowing through here.

I was high on Quincy Miller, even though his production was never as good as he looked moving around the court. He's not getting minutes in Detroit, either, but he signed a one-year contract so they have more time to figure it out.

A big who can shoot 3s and comes cheap would be a boon. There's gonna be a lot of stiffs coming out of Reno, and it's a good sign that we're kicking the wheels on a lot of them to see if there's a potential contributor out there.

Let's not get too excited about David Wear. The dude's putting up respectable numbers in a system than essentially amounts to stat inflation central.

He's also 24 years old, has a twin brother who can barely crack the worst big man rotation in the NBA in New York, and weighs less than any other frontcourt player on the team not named Omri.

Sure, why not. The whole point of Reno is to call up guys to try and potentially find a contributor.

NO, no, no, no. You do not understand. We simply cannot show any kind of positive reaction to these call-ups. None, zip, zero, nada, zilch.

To be fair, it's hard to show much positivity to a guy who barely put up pedestrian numbers in college.

Maybe we will attract better prospects to the bighorns if they think they will get a shot with the Kings.

Since under D-League rules the players without NBA contracts are free to sign with any NBA team, there's really not a huge advantage in that. We could, for instance, have signed Hassan Whiteside to a deal after he dropped a triple double AGAINST the Bighorns early in the year. If we were running a real basketball system you might say there was some minor advantage in having guys learn our stuff, but as is almost any other team would probably prepare them better for the NBA.

The Kings have been looking for a stretch 4 for a while. If he can shoot a little off the bench, I'm all for it.

If he can be a bench stretch 4, that would be good. Hopefully he can fill in the "Ryan Anderson" role on the cheap.

Ryan Anderson is a huge problem for his team defensively. Don't think, Kings need a poor version of him. Now our own version of Teletovic or current Garnett, or even poor version of them, would add some useful flexibility.

I've seen this point made repeatedly, but I think it's totally wrong and without any sort of logical basis. Sending over a couple pages or Karl's playbook isn't going to make a lick of difference.

The biggest difference between the d-league and the NBA is that there are NBA caliber players in the NBA. Rookies in the league talk about having to adjust to playing against stronger, better, faster, and more skilled players. There's not a secret pick and roll that no one learns about until they get to the NBA.

In some ways, the Bighorns system DOES get them ready by conditioning the players. NBA teams play 82 games per year - far more than college teams or the d-league. Getting your conditioning up - being able to run with the fastest players around and doing it night after night - might actually make a difference.

There is no "real basketball system" that can be run in the d-league that will translate into NBA prep.

He's not just a poor man's Ryan Anderson though.

He's a 57-year-old crackhead whose been living under a freeway overpass and roasting stray cats for sustenance for the past thirty years and doing weird sex stuff for drug money's Ryan Anderson.

Lol daaang.

But what does it hurt to give him a chance? It's not like we're going to throw him out there into the starting lineup with Carl Landry, Ryan Hollins, and a couple of random guards ... I hope. ;)

If someone is all giddy about this guy, good for them. I have a feeling cold hard reality will come to light soon enough without the resident nay-sayers having to jump over each other trying to beat said reality to the punch.

Once you win 2 games in a row, it's all rainbows and sunshine.

Appropriately I might add. After all, rainbows and sunshine are for people that have nothing. And its likely that's what Wear will add to the team. He was a decent college player, probably not an NBA player. But I've been wrong before.. I agree with Bricky. Bring up the big guy.

Ditto. Felt the same way about Stockton, which is more an issue about the kind of talent we've has in Reno as anything else. It's a junkball system that neither attracts top dleague talent nor prepares guys for our system.

But we've got a project big. Might as well call him up.

damn. is that where the kings scouting going for talent these days?

A 6-10 SF who can shoot 3's and mid-range is not all bad, if he can do it at the NBA level. Background not too encouraging but a year almost in the D-League is better than nothing. But in Reno's case not much better than nothing. Lets see if he can get open and move on both ends. Then we can swoon or slaughter as the beast fits.

I guess he....like Stockton get signed to 10 day contracts to warm up the bench and wave towels ala Hollins.
