Kings Sign Bobby Brown

Wow! This is a good signing. I have admired Brown's game since last year's draft in a very similar way that I have Singletary's.

This Bobby Brown?

Honestly, I don't know much about him, but it sounds like he earned himself a shot.

Jerry West loves this guy....i remember reading that or hearing that on a radio show back when BB was a Titan. The Big West isn't much of a conference, but he was by far the best player to come out of there when he was draft eligible. This could be much ado about nothing, but I like the signing and look forward to him pushing for the backup spot.

As loyal Kings fans, I'm sure that for every little step he takes, we will be there. For every little step he takes, we'll be together.

Also, I want to go on record as claiming "The Tenderonis" as the name of his fan club in the event he becomes a basketball superstar.

Great, now Petrie can officially go on vacation:

-Draft Pick, check
-MLE, check
-Free-Agent Scrub Signing, check

See you at training camp, Geoff.

Jokes aside, hope Brown can bring something to the table. Singletary didn't impress me in the summer league as the Kings backup PG. He wasn't bad, but he clearly needs a year or two of NBA experience to be effective (think year 1 Ronnie Price with a little worse shot selection). Hopefully, Bobby Brown's prerogative is to finally and truly fill in the big shoes left by Bobby Jackson.

Eh I think we wind up trading Artest too.

wow, that's a surprise to steal Bobby Brown from the Hornets team. I like Sean Singletary, but from what I saw at summer league (and the stats) Bobby Brown is a better player right now. I wouldn't mind seeing both on the team, Beno/Brown/Singletary provides some depth at PG if Beno gets hurt.

that is awesome! i seen him play a lot in college, cal state fullerton plays in the same conference is university of the pacific, in stockton..(40 miles south of sac for you ppl outside of california)...i was surprised he wasnt actually drafted last year..glad to have him on the kings..

He could be a welcome New Edition to our club. I was telling my Tender Roni about him. If he don't make it Reggie told GP Don't be Cruel about cutting him.

Anyone know the terms of the contract?

Not sure how correct my understanding is, but since we already gave our full MLE to Beno, I guess we can offer him only the minimum or LLE or something like that, right? If so, how were we able to outbid other teams (apart from offering an extra year).

Know nothing about the guy, but some reviews are certainly positive. Wish him the best. Hopefully, shall turn out to be an underrated good move.

Edit: Sorry, for missing out the info in the first post by nbrans :-(

He averaged 15.2 points and 6.3 assists in the summer league...not a bad pickup.

He also shot .424 and got 2 steals in 6 games. But summer league numbers don't really mean much -- this is a good sign just in that it could/should be a sign that we are going to let Singletary adn Brown battle it out for the backup PG spot, and are going to be content to let young prospects run that position ratehr than signing another hoary old vet to hold it down. That's a good sign for our mentality -- sort of thing tht could cost us some games if/when Beno goes down for a spell, but the way a rebuilding team should be angling. Get young guys out there, see if you can uncover a diamond in the rough.

The old rap on Brown was that he was an amazing athlete, great scorer, but did not think like a PG and could not be bothered to play defense. If those assist totals indicate that he has at least been working on the PG angle (even if the steals might make you wonder if the defense has changed any), there is potential there. The PG stuff is key though -- without it he's just Ronnie Price sans defense. With it he's maybe a legit backup.

I didn't watch Brown play at all, but his assist to turnover ratio of almost 3 to 1 is pretty impressive, especially since Summer League is often a mix of jacking up shots and throwing the ball into the stands. For the sake of comparison, Singletary had about a 1.4 to 1 assist to turnover ratio.

I guess when he brings the ball up on offense, it will be "His Prerogative" to pass or shoot! Sorry, couldn't pass up an easy one.

Looking at the highlights on youtube it looks like he's very athletic and has a nice shot...unlike Ronnie Price who was just athletic.
