League minimum takes the fear away for me.player options scare me.....he could be a 1 and done.
He also shot .424 and got 2 steals in 6 games. But summer league numbers don't really mean much -- this is a good sign just in that it could/should be a sign that we are going to let Singletary adn Brown battle it out for the backup PG spot, and are going to be content to let young prospects run that position ratehr than signing another hoary old vet to hold it down. That's a good sign for our mentality -- sort of thing tht could cost us some games if/when Beno goes down for a spell, but the way a rebuilding team should be angling. Get young guys out there, see if you can uncover a diamond in the rough.
The old rap on Brown was that he was an amazing athlete, great scorer, but did not think like a PG and could not be bothered to play defense. If those assist totals indicate that he has at least been working on the PG angle (even if the steals might make you wonder if the defense has changed any), there is potential there. The PG stuff is key though -- without it he's just Ronnie Price sans defense. With it he's maybe a legit backup.
All Reggie ever talks about is having the pg score; the pg stuff seems tertiary for him.
Hmmm...not sure about that -- it was Reggie who was complaining the loudest at the beginning of last season about not having a guy who could be a floor general out there, and also Reggie who pointedly ignored Douby in favor of a guy like Anthony Johnson down the stretch. I actually think he has a use for both PG skills and post players -- in many ways having a more traditional approach to the game than Geoff's shooter fetish.
First GP plucks Beno Udrih away from the T-wolves and now Bobby Brown away from the Hornets. Good move Geoff!
Sorry I should have been clearer. I wasn’t saying that Sean would be starting, I was talking about him being a back-up while Bobby (since people are so excited about him) becomes the starter (if he can play as a starter). But both have to prove that they can play on the big stage. If they can prove their game, then can (or do you think) Beno will be traded? Or is this a move (adding Bobby) that just gives depth to our PG position?
having 3 young pgs 1 having a little experience the other 2 with potential is way better than having 0. I like the fact they are not signing some 30 year old has been.
Maybe Geoff is going to keep both Bobby and Sean. If they both prove to be able to play at the starting position and be a reliable back-up, then the Kings will trade Beno to a team that desperately needs his services. Does anybody think that’s a possibility? Just a thought.
I think he'll keep all three point guards. As I stated before, Singletery could be a candidate for the D league. If we have an injury, you can call him up. In the meantime he would be playing and getting experience.
Am I right in believing that Petrie has never yet sent a player to the D-league? I can't find any confirmation, but I don't recall any player actually signed to the Kings being sent there.
With Justin Williams, I believe he was playing there unaffiliated when we signed him.
Anybody remember any of this better than me?
