Kings - Raptors Game 1pm (PST) Saturday

Anyone know what games will actually have someone calling the game?

I hope there are a few because that mean a lot better camera angles and close ups instead of the one far away camera.

The NBA.com webcast has one camera up at the top of the stands in Cox Pavilion, the UNLV practice facility, dedicated to webcasting. There likely will be 3-4 cameras for the HD live TV feeds for the Kings games Tue 7pm, Wed 3pm and Fri 7pm (but will be tape delayed to start 9:30pm!!!). Sundays game is webcast only. But knowing as we do the Maloofs, expect anything better. But now it's NBA running things not the summer league folk so don't get your hopes up.

In a quick glance thru the overall schedule, only Kings, Blazers, Lakers, Clips and Mavs get as many as 3 games on Live NBA HD TV. No one gets more and everyone else gets 2 games or less on TV.

I was browsing from last years Summer league and compared Hawes stats from now....

his first game he had 19 pts and 7 rebs and 7 fouls and stuff
now

he scored 20 pts 9 rebs 2 assists and a couple of fouls (the numbers may not be accurate but they are close i think)

so to those who watched and was able to see him.. did he utilize the sky hook he said he was working on?

im really intrigued with our young guys now...

No skyhook but he did some work in the post. A couple half hooks, put back dunks, fadeaway jumpers, etc. Kind of did a little bit of everything you can do with the ball in your hands. And they did run 1 play through him. He found a cutter and made the bounce pass to set up a Douby dunk but I think he was fouled and missed. Can't remember, it all seems like a blur. In fact, it kind of looked like a blur too. ;)

hmmm maybe in the next few games well see that hook shot..

Hawes and jason thompson need to get more PT together to develop a chemistry... Sacbee once coveted a Love and Hawes passing game if he fell that far... now we have some one who MAY be even better than Love... id love to see that passing game

Singletary hopefully makes the team, as ive read the comments passes the ball and is quick

Douby.... still a shooting guard, yet we can always use extra fire power off the bench

Williams: lol slow? i sure hope he gets to be that bruiser kind of guy we want and need.. lol starting a fight in summer league that made me laugh

Ewing Jr. i wont judge the guy saying he sucks and stuff, maybe didnt get enough touches, didnt assert himself? what ever the factors are im sure he will get a good game sooner or later, id rather have him on the line up than KT

We all need to keep this first game in particular and the summer league overall in perspective. Over the last 4 years of the vegas summer league I never went to first games. For most free agents, the excitement and desire to play good overwhelms them and the first-games remind me of wind up toys all wound up too tight. Or like a bunch of 4th graders who found a case of Red Bull.

Another item that too many fans become concerned with is winning and losing in summer league which has absolutely nothing to do with the regular season. For example, last year Nate Robinson and the Knicks team went 5-0 whereas New Orleans went 0-4. Summer league is for player evaluation in game-like conditions and to see which players work better with in a team role. Belinelli (warriors) last year scored 37 points in one game then in the regular season scored 95 pts total in 82 games!!!

I like to pick a player on the floor and watch them for 3-4 minutes straight, with and without the ball. Then go to the next player. May not be as much fun as watching a game and cheering and booing but watching the "bubble" players like Hawkins, Ewing and Walsh to me is fascinating. In Tuesday's game you will see a bunch of minutes for the 5 guys who did not play on Saturday. Then expect to see a couple more guys dropped and by the 3rd game we should start to see a defined rotation of 10-12 players.

Fouls and TO's in first games don't mean much with the hype and all. Also as pointed out by the Raptors coach on saturday, the Kings starting 5 included 4 first-round draft choices: Shelden, Jason, Quincy and Spencer, 3 of which played in the NBA last year! So the Kings should win most games but more importantly, can Singletary, Ewing and one or two more get invites to training camp in October?

Maybe when I said he stunk, I was a little too strong. But, he didn't use his time on the court to impress anyone. I hate to say this, but if I had to choose who I would put into the game out of necessity right now. And I had to choose between Pat Ewing Jr. and Thomas. I'm sorry, but it would be Thomas. Not much of an endorsement for Thomas though.

I agree with you 100% ( there is no 110% of anything ). The last thing I worry about is the final score of the game. I try to get a read on how comfortable a player looks. Is he forcing things? How does he react to his teammates on the floor. Is he physcial?

I do try and isolate a player, and just watch him. As an example, I thought that Thompson pushed the opposing pt guard out a little too far in leaving his man on the pick and roll defense. At the same time, I was impressed with his quickness in getting back to his man. In a real game in real time, he would get burn't if someone didn't rotate over and pick up his man.

As you said. It was the first game. In one sense, I thought the Kings looked pretty composed for the first game. In another sense, one could say that they should have, because of having more regular roster players on the floor. I can't wait for the next game.

Great thread. I love all the instant impression ya'all have had. The video was nice too!

Summer league is allways such a great teaser that the dreaded offseason is almost over.

Just so everyone knows you can watch the full game here if you missed it.

My thoughts on the game;

Spencer Hawes- Looks alot more in shape, hes much more confident, his shot is silky smooth and his rebounding looked good. I want to see the offense ran more through him like Chris and Vlade, with Quincy and Singletary cutting a little more.

Jason Thompson- I think he had a little bit of first game jitters because he was rushing things and forcing some drives which resulted in alot of turnovers. But, he did show hes extremely light moving on his feet and he has driving ability like a SF. His shooting stroke looks nice, and he has a nice face up game if he utilizes it better. Solid rebounder except for he got beat 2 or 3 times for defensive rebounds off of a missed free throw attempts, so he has to box his man out better.
I wasnt overly impressed with Thompson in his first game but you can see he has the tools he just needs to use them better. We'll see how he does next game!:)

Sean Singletary- Wow we got a steal, a true point guard, he looked poised at all times in the game knowing when to push the tempo, and when to slow it down and try and run halfcourt sets. He was always looking to get his teammates involved first, which only ended up being 5 asts but if the shots would have fallen he would have had around 10-11 asts. Hes lightning quick and has good control over his speeds. His dribbling is excellent and wat you expect it to be at nba level and he is great at penetrating the lane, splitting defenders then finding open teamates or taking it right to the rack. His defense is tough nosed but not crazy out of control, he takes what he can get with steals and didnt gamble or make mistakes from what I could see.
Singletary will be our backup point this year and I can see him battling Beno for more minutes.

Quincy Douby- Showed his shot was money and that he has good driving abilities(he should look to kick to open players more often tho). He had some nice blocks and bothered people with his length. He made a cuple nice passes but not as many as I would of liked to have seen.
He needs to stick off-ball as much as possible and move without the ball more to get open looks. All in all he looked pretty good and could be a spark off the bench this year.

Shelden Williams- Showed us he uses his massive body good. He bangs he rebounds and he gets layups.. I was hoping he would be in better shape then he is. I can see him getting spot minutes this year.

Ewing Jr- Got good shot attempts just didnt hit on any of them.. He didn't look to good on D trying to guard Joey Graham. Hopefully theres an improvement next game.

Tuesday should be fun to watch!

Jason Thompson's 3pt bomb was awesome! when i watch him take it live i was thinking to myself "wow homies lost his mind".... he was a good couple feet past the 3pt line from the longest spot on the floor... that sound with of the ball going down... wow wonder if hes gonna be a 3pt threat every night..

Don't worry slim. It didn't look like anything he will be doing alot of. It was more along the lines of. OK your going to play 10 feet off of me, lets see what I can do.

yeah in no way do i wanna see Thompson jacking 3's all night every night..... but if he can hit that shot, and defensive players are gonna give him all that room...?... then shoot away!

By wondering if he's gonna be a 3pt threat.... i meant... I wonder if he can hit that consistently? and again if he is a 3 pt threat then it works to our teams benefit to spread the floor, and it looks like Jason can put it on the floor and burn by other bigs maybe so its a good thing...

He should be playing in the paint mostly though...

yeah i think it was shortly after that play that he caught a pass around the three point line then completely burned his defender to the basket.

Jason is a pretty good 3 point shooter and that will be nice to have when we have Spencer playing in the post.

Lets not get all carried away guys. He has a good outside shot. And I agree, he probably took that shot because no one was guarding him. I admire his confidence, but I would prefer for the time being, that he shoot from about 18 feet in. He's a very good rebounder, and its hard to rebound when your 23 ft from the basket.

Scott Howard Cooper just wrote in his blog something I hadn't thought of. Put Miller, Hawes, and Thompson on the floor at the same time. Not bad. Two seven footers and one six foot eleven guy. You could only do it for limited minutes with Thompson trying to guard the other teams SF, but it would certainly catch them off guard for a brief period of time.
