I was impressed by Douby, Hawes, Shelden, and Thompson. Singletary is really good at drawing fouls also. Shelden's game wasn't exactly pretty but he got 10 boards, and he was able to make some lay ups which I guess is all you can ask from him. Thompson and Hawes were really impressive offensively though, Spencer was dominating.
Douby showed why he's not a PG but he did a good job IMO. He should be a 15-20 MPG back up SG who hits open 3s and gives you some offense. If Martin was stropnger you could slide him to the 3 at times and Douby would get a bit more minutes. I don't think the problem is him being a bad player, I think it's him being a bad PG. Unfortunately for him Martin is a lot better, so we aren't exactly going to shift Martin around to accomodate him much. But still, he could be a decent spark plug. Probably could get 8-10 points in 15-20 MPG. He still had 2-3 nice passes though, they just ended up in fouls. One where he threw a cross court pass to Singletary but he got fouled, and 1-2 others.
Thompson looked good except he seems to have a problem with fouls, then again a lot of summer leaguers do and the reffing isn't exactly great. Still impressed with his rebounding, ball handling, passing, shooting, pretty much all around impressed by him to be honest. I can see why we picked him. He has some stuff to work out but he looks really athletic and fluid out there on the court. He's going to need to get used to going 1 on 1 vs NBA calibre defenders though, I thought he lost the ball a couple times there. Definitely encouraging signs from our rookie though!
Hawes looked amazing offensively. He had 2-3 nice dunks and his turnaround jumpshot looked pretty unstoppable. His post game is pretty good but he needs to stay down there a little more. He did a good job blocking shots and defensively he did a good job stepping out on screens etc. but I was kinda dissapointed he didn't block any shots. Aside from that he was just dominant out there though.
Shelden was really unimpressive for a while, but then he showed why he was out there. He did a good job grabbing boards and in the post. I dunno, he had some times where you were like "OMG Shelden sucks!" but I also thought a lot of the time he actually played pretty well. I was impressed, hopefully he can continue losing weight, working on his coordination with each hand, and working on his post game. If he does that he should turn out to be a decent player.
Singletary was solid. He did a good job defensively and passing the ball. He was really good at getting into the D and drawing fouls as well. I thought his shot was pretty off though. He is a solid player at the moment. I would like for him to be more agressive though.
