Kings - Raptors Game 1pm (PST) Saturday

geez Spencer just threw it down so hard. I felt it. Sheldon gets rebounds that almost hit him in the face. He can't help but catch it.

Well Pat Ewing didn't impress. JT looked solid and with only get better and SS is an NBA backup pg right now.

huh?? See Jason running the floor? Shelden has a better "stats game" then Thompson but overall I would rather have Thompson on the floor because he's doing a lot more for the team then Williams. Goes to show that Williams stats mean nothing.

edit: right when I type this Thompson gets packed at the rim lol.

Jason's playing better but he has gotten outworked for more than a few rebounds and just looks tired out there at times.

I was impressed by Douby, Hawes, Shelden, and Thompson. Singletary is really good at drawing fouls also. Shelden's game wasn't exactly pretty but he got 10 boards, and he was able to make some lay ups which I guess is all you can ask from him. Thompson and Hawes were really impressive offensively though, Spencer was dominating.

Douby showed why he's not a PG but he did a good job IMO. He should be a 15-20 MPG back up SG who hits open 3s and gives you some offense. If Martin was stropnger you could slide him to the 3 at times and Douby would get a bit more minutes. I don't think the problem is him being a bad player, I think it's him being a bad PG. Unfortunately for him Martin is a lot better, so we aren't exactly going to shift Martin around to accomodate him much. But still, he could be a decent spark plug. Probably could get 8-10 points in 15-20 MPG. He still had 2-3 nice passes though, they just ended up in fouls. One where he threw a cross court pass to Singletary but he got fouled, and 1-2 others.

Thompson looked good except he seems to have a problem with fouls, then again a lot of summer leaguers do and the reffing isn't exactly great. Still impressed with his rebounding, ball handling, passing, shooting, pretty much all around impressed by him to be honest. I can see why we picked him. He has some stuff to work out but he looks really athletic and fluid out there on the court. He's going to need to get used to going 1 on 1 vs NBA calibre defenders though, I thought he lost the ball a couple times there. Definitely encouraging signs from our rookie though!:)

Hawes looked amazing offensively. He had 2-3 nice dunks and his turnaround jumpshot looked pretty unstoppable. His post game is pretty good but he needs to stay down there a little more. He did a good job blocking shots and defensively he did a good job stepping out on screens etc. but I was kinda dissapointed he didn't block any shots. Aside from that he was just dominant out there though.

Shelden was really unimpressive for a while, but then he showed why he was out there. He did a good job grabbing boards and in the post. I dunno, he had some times where you were like "OMG Shelden sucks!" but I also thought a lot of the time he actually played pretty well. I was impressed, hopefully he can continue losing weight, working on his coordination with each hand, and working on his post game. If he does that he should turn out to be a decent player.

Singletary was solid. He did a good job defensively and passing the ball. He was really good at getting into the D and drawing fouls as well. I thought his shot was pretty off though. He is a solid player at the moment. I would like for him to be more agressive though.

My thoughts on the game. Sorry to repeat the obvious, but Douby showed once again he's not a pt guard. At least three times during the game he led a fast break and had trailers. Not once did he dish for an easy basket by a teammate. He shot the ball pretty well, and pretty often, as in, every time he had the ball.

J.T. played pretty well for his first game. What impressed me the most was that he looked comfortable out there. He looked like he belonged. He showed that he's a good offensive rebounder, and that he can handle the ball pretty well for a big guy. He did make some mistakes. He forced some shots in the middle when they just wern't there, but all in all not bad for the first time out.

Singletery played really well. He didn't shoot the ball that well, but, he didn't take that many shots. A couple of the shots he took, he had to take because the clock was running out. His defense was better than Douby's. He stayed in front of his man for the most part and had a couple of steals. I think Douby had a couple of steals as well, but he got beat off the dribble more times than I would have liked. That by the way was what got J.T. and Hawes in foul trouble. Singletery did what he was susposed to do. He insinuated the offense. Made several very good passes, and played very good defense.

Sheldon, Sheldon, Sheldon. Which is the real Sheldon? The guy looked like he was running in cement in the first half and looked like he was on uppers by comparison in the second half. He rebounded much better in the second half, and actually played defense in the second half. His biggest problem is that he simply doesn't have a very good post game. He hasn't got any hops and he's just not good at getting defenders off they're feet. If he had a little bit of Turiaf in him, I think he could stick, but my personal opinion is that he'll never be any better than an average back up in the NBA. Its too bad, because I like him as a person. Maybe thats the problem.

Spence did what I thought he would do. He was the best player out there from either team. He looked comfortable and made it look easy. My wish is that they run more of the offense through him. Actually, I don't remember them running the offense through him at all, as in the Valde type of set up. He probably took a couple of shots he shouldn't have taken, but he was probably bored. His Defense wasn't bad. He got beat on a back door at least once that I remember. But all in all he played well. Give this guy playing time and he will erase any memories of comparisons to Smoke Miller.

Pat Ewing Jr. With emphasis on the Jr. The chip fell very far from the block this time. If he continues to play the way he did today, he has zero chance of making the team. Conner Medley from last years team would take him to the cleaners. In my humble opinion, he stunk..With emphasis on the stunk! I don't have a clue why we drafted this guy. I swear to God. I think Petrie owed Pat Sr. a favor.

I have no comments on any of the other players. The one's I wanted to see play, didn't play. Matt Walsh did what Matt Walsh does. He stands around and waits to shoot the ball. other than that, he's invisible. Oh, excuse me, he decided to try and play defense briefly and got a couple of fouls.

Enjoyed the comments from everyone. We need to keep in mind that this was the FIRST summer league game and the first time those guys played against an other team as a group. Over the years of seeing so many summer league games the first game always gets thrown out as not being all that meaningful due to first game jitters and there are always an extraordinary amount of fouls. One reason there is a 10 foul limit.

It was the first extended minutes for Shelden and it took a half or more to shake his jitters. Same for Jason. Spencer is beginning to show tinges of what a monster he can be in the future. And how pleased to see Singletary's abilities although briefly and what he might be able to bring.

Now after the Tue-Wed back-to-back and Friday's game we'll start to see who can really do what and who has a chance to grab a spot on the roster. The last game of the summer league is also the last game for the Kings and we should see the final 8 man rotation that will formalize itself on Friday.

Tue-Wed will see everyone on the roster get bigger minutes so the Kings powers-to-be can make some decisions. I'll be at games 2, 3 and 4 but won't likely get summaries out until half and after the game ends. This year will try to get pics with new DSLR and 135mm lens.

Anyone know what games will actually have someone calling the game?

I hope there are a few because that mean a lot better camera angles and close ups instead of the one far away camera.
