Kings/Lakers Preseason Game Thread

Two preseason games in and I think it’s safe to say the pre draft reports of him a complete negative on D was vastly overrated. I would like to see him more dominant on the defensive boards but I’ll caulk that up to currently adjusting to nba physicality and floating between the 3, 4, and 5 positions.

Offensively though, he has some work to do but it’s ok. The raw physical talent is there and for what it seems like, a guy that will put the work in. He’s honestly a spin move/right hand hook from being really tough to guard.

A little too early to say that but I saw him not struggle to switch on defense to all 5 on the floor. He has the athleticism and motor to do this but with a little experience and a little luck, he can be a full court terror.

Bagley had 19 points and 10 rebounds. For a guy who couldn’t play defense he did a darn good job on Kuzma.

For the record Bagley isn’t going to win rookie of the year. If any King wins it, Giles will win it with a more all around game. But his free throw shooting stroke looked decent 5-7 and he spins fast. Once defenders can’t sit on his left hand watch out. He is going to have a year to learn from ZBo the master of low post footwork.

It could well take a year or two but I think Bagley is going to be a good if not great player.

Cauley Stein needs to stop ball watching, and insert himself on defense more. He should be leading the young-bucks by example.

I hope Giles stays healthy. He has the talent to start, but I think the staff will keep his minutes down and let him work his conditioning and balance in. Joerger can actually bring both Bagley and Giles off the bench for energy play.

I am optimistic the Kings will be better than 2nd to last this season. When bigs hustle, good things happen. Now, more FT practicing. 80%!

I am happy at the prospect of how some of our players are developing :)
As am I. Giles and Bailey looking a little more comfortable. Fox looks to be making a big leap this year. I think buddy will be very solid.

Worried about Jackson. Honestly, at this point he may be unplayable.

I feel like opening night may have bagley starting at the 4 unless coach is just stubborn with first year players. WCS starting but given a short leash if is defense is uninspired. Giles first big off the bench, in at either the 4 or 5. If Skal is not hitting his shots, I think he is the odd man out.

Unfortunately looks like I missed a good game. Also looks like Bagley had a great game. I hope some youtube channel posts his highlights

Did you really need to poke the bear?

This is definitely a difference in perspective. See, I don't do any social media at all. I realize that clowns like this are commonplace on most of the Internet, and the best thing to do is ignore them. I'm naive enough to think it might be possible to convince them they're wasting their time on this particular site. Who knows, it might just be a kid who thinks that hyperbole like that is SOP. If, unfortunately, it's just another troll, I certainly won't engage any more.

Hey Joshoua, I haven't heard your report yet on how Marvin "the biggest bust in history" Bagley did tonight. Or do you want to admit that you might have been a bit premature, so that other people here will take you seriously?
I blocked him so please if he has a but of crow for dinner let me know....

Labiessiere is just not the athlete the other 3 are....he is defensive liability. I'd like to see how Beljica, Koufas, and Randolph play with newer players more. All 3 are more half-court players.

Lol let’s not act like he was there creating points I don’t see him as a top 2 option he’ll be a good defender though. Great energy and will finish well not what I’d call a top 2 pick but I also never called him a bust.

We need some damn shooting to free Bagley/Giles

My way of thinking...

Skal is losing his time. Don’t know about Zach/Kosta but Bjelica is coming to play.

I’m learning a lesson on Skal/Justin, in regards to the NBA. I liked both of them as prospects because they are naturally talented and good kids with a good work ethic. But you can have all those traits and just flat out be too soft to play in the NBA..

Great: Fox
Good: Giles, Buddy, Bagley
Fair: Mason, Mclemore, Gabriel
Poor: Labisierre
Terrible: Jackson
Want to slap: WCS

If this is “Baggs season” effort on the part of Willie then he can’t be traded soon enough. I saw him literally put his hands up the air instead of reaching for a loose ball. It’s like the ball had cooties or something.

Haha clowns, isn’t it clown talk to say we can criticize Bagley after SL and 1 preseason game but call out other posters after 1 good preseason game. Either you’re a hypocrite or a clown yourself

Stu Lance was a diplomatic homer - I dont know if he's still broadcasting. Late Chick Hearn was a great announcer though.

He called the game tonight
Also don’t think I would call him diplomatic. He came off like a sanctimonious jerk who was always making snarky remarks

Randolph and Koufos are seasoned players. Every team needs a couple. The team letting go of Temple though tough, seems to be hindsight the right move.. This season, even with all the pundits calling out 20 wins, is more interesting than last. I think if the hustle continues, people are gonna warm up to this year's team. With so many decent players but no stand-outs (yet), there's no place for lolly-gaggin but the pine. That goes double for Cauley-Stein who may be the most athletic player on the team.

One of my favorite highlights of tonights Laker game even though a James highlight and score, was a slow mo of both Bagley and Giles mixing it up with him on defense. Loved it!

Bagley highlights

Looks like he had a good game. Basing off what I've seen in the highlights, my concern is whether or not his teammates can find him in his soft spots. He's way too athletic not to be getting better looks. I go back to Blake Griffin's rookie year again...lob city. Kings should be actively looking to set up Bagley for east buckets any time they can. I know it'll improve with Bogdan and some of these guys won't be getting major PT with us during the season, but hopefully the guards can give him alley oops. Don't think I saw a single one in this highlight.. and that's a bit concerning considering he scored 19pts tonight.

sidenotes... Skal fouled out in 12mins? jeez. I hope we're not in the "can he actually play basketball" discuss again... it's his 3rd season. Maybe just a rough outing by the refs. He had a nice game 1. Looks like Fox followed a very good game by a great game. Buddy's shooting went in this game. Jackson's statline is straight up unacceptable. He had more fouls(4) than pts, rebs, and assists combined. Maybe he needs more touches? But he needs to get going.

The reason Jax did well in summer league even though his stats weren't that great is that he played with balls. Hes going to be out of the league really fast if he doesn't man up and play with more aggression.

A big issue was limited minutes again with Fox and Buddy. Literally the one easy dunk Bagley got all night was set up by a drive and dish from Fox.

I think Frank's lack of ability to show he can run an offense is one of the most telling things we're founding out through Summer League and 2 preseason games. The box score looks good on Frank, but the stats were completely empty. It was a complete drop-off to our offensive cohesion when Fox subbed out of the game. Frank's gotten a ton of run with Giles and Bagley this summer, but hasn't been able to do absolutely anything with them in a 2 man game or get them easy shots. As a 2nd year guard and a 4 year college player, it doesn't bode well that he struggles so much with getting others involved around him.

If you are happy to prematurely throw mud, then men up and be ready to accept people to throw it right back at you when your views are disputed. ;)
