Kings/Lakers Preseason Game Thread

According to the box score Marvin did his thing. 19/10? Is that right. That’s a step in the right direction

The way he was used went where it should have been the whole time. He got to be that player who hovers around the rim and finishes before defenders can catch him and if they try it's either an and 1 or a shooting foul.

Lots to be positive about in that game. Harry and Marvin looked promising. Add Beli and or Bogi and our front court is much improved from last year. Yogi looked good.

Skal and Justin need to get better to deserve minutes. Skal defensively and Justin all around. Hard to comprehend what Hezonja was thinking when he signed with the Knicks. He would have slotted right in to the gaping hole we have at 3.

Him and Giles should definitely start.

I think it's only a matter of time, but I also think there is time. They have to find a way to build value across that front court so hopefully they can redeem something prior to the eventual change ups.

Step in the right direction for Bagley. Glad we were able to see an outing like that from him.

Giles continues to impress, but I feel like he could make better decisions and play more under control on offense.

Fox looked liked the best player on the floor.

I would like to see Gabriel get more minutes at SF. I'm losing faith in Jackson very quickly. I get the same feeling watching him as I did McLemore. The "too nice" factor. I don't see any fire from him.

Yeah, felt we had a much better grasp on how to use Marvin tonight. Didn't really see him get stuck behind the 3pt line or 20 feet out trying to create his own shot. Got almost everything in the post or the elbow and was able to draw fouls and got a few easy looks. He got an easy dunk from Fox (maybe playing our #2 pick with our best ball-handler/playmaker would help his development? Maybe?) and a few garbage points around the rim.

Defensively I think he's playing extremely well. Had a couple really good contests on LeBron shots that went in..because LeBron. Was active in closing out on shooters and I like the fact he's always looking to contest and alter shots. His energy/activity is awesome and going to help him truly be elite once the game starts to slow down for him.

I think that he'll pick that kind of game up at some point but they really need to give the young players something easy so they can get some confidence. The meat grinder is good some of the time but they need some hope to latch on to as well. Let them get theirs then stick them in the areas they need to improve in.

The Kings may platoon 10-12 players on Belijica and Bogdan return., considering spot minutes for Koufas and Zbo....

What is Bogdan's return date supposedly?

Some of these are very important for players fighting to make #13 or #14 - can a team suit up 15? I dunno....

I think Giles gets significantly better when we put our real wings around him. That's something we really haven't seen: Bagley or Giles get extended run next to Buddy/Fox and obviously Bogdan. Because Frank Mason has the playmaking ability of a traffic cone, we're seeing a lot of offensive responsibility put on both guys right now to create and be the lead offensive options. Something they probably aren't ready to be.

Lakers finished the stretch run of the game with their starters minus Lebron. The Kings played one drafted rookie, one undrafted rookie and 3 guys not likely to make the team down the stretch.

That one undrafted rookie was Wenyen Gabriel and I expect him to be the Kings starting SF by mid-season. Wenyen is a defensive beast and can hit the 3.

Marvin is going to be a two way player and that's a big deal.

A little too early to say that but I saw him not struggle to switch on defense to all 5 on the floor. He has the athleticism and motor to do this but with a little experience and a little luck, he can be a full court terror.

Two preseason games in and I think it’s safe to say the pre draft reports of him a complete negative on D was vastly overrated. I would like to see him more dominant on the defensive boards but I’ll caulk that up to currently adjusting to nba physicality and floating between the 3, 4, and 5 positions.
