Kings jerseys picked worst in pro sports

Hall of Famer
Kings fans may disagree, but according to a list of the jerseys of every team in the four major professional leagues, Sacramento’s uniforms are the worst in sports.
The Kings came in at No. 122 in Paul Lukas’ jersey power rankings at Uni Watch on ESPN.com. Lukas has unveiled No. 122 down to No. 76, working his way to No. 1 by the end of the week. No other Bay Area teams made the bottom two-fifths of the rankings.

Lukas cited the Kings’ “brutal color scheme,” “illegible chest lettering on the home jersey,” “oddly off-center front uni numbers,” “clownish number font” and “completely incongruous old-school script on the black alternate” as his reasons for placing Sacramento last.

The Kings finished behind the Cincinnati Bengals, Brooklyn Nets, Minnesota Vikings and Colorado Avalanche to round out the bottom five of the rankings.

I don't think they're worst in pro sports, but there has been some highly questionable decisions on the designs of jerseys. Why not just go back to the all black jerseys?

These were the best imo. Why we went away from them I'll never understand.

Well, this is just one guy (with an admitted grudge against the color purple) so I don't know if there's much to complain about.

Honestly, I like our color scheme. There's something about the royal purple that I find appealing, including the fact that it doesn't show up right on TV. As far as the pairing goes, purple with black is far, far better than, say, purple with green (remember the Bucks?) or purple with yellow (not naming any names...), and the royal purple is much nicer than something like the old Raptors' purple. So on color scheme, I give us full credit for having attractive, unique colors that work well together.

Illegible lettering on the home jersey? OK, I don't love the font, but it's not horrible, and it's not illegible. The problem, if anything, is that we have "Sacramento" on the home jersey and "Kings" on the road when it should be reversed. (Obviously there has been fan speculation that this is to eliminate the association of "Sacramento" with the Kings for the other NBA markets but regardless, it's silly.)

As for off-center numbers, it looks like 6 or 7 team (depending on if you count the Warriors) have off-center numbers. I like them better than centered, to be honest, but it's hard to knock us for something almost 1/4 of NBA teams do. Nor would I call the number font clownish by any means. I kind of like it.

He does have a point about the incongruous old-style script on the alternates. That just doesn't seem to match.

Anyway, I think the current iteration is pretty nice, all told. Who cares what this guy thinks.

Sometimes it just feels like we are the sport worlds punching bag... is it because we constantly suck? Must be...

... Man, it is brutal being a fan of this team.

I like the color scheme. What I don't like is "Sacramento" on home unis and "Kings" on travel unis. Hell, we know our Kings are from Sacramento. But does every away fan know (or care) where our team is from? Whoops, maybe its not that but someone higher up who wants to keep our location secret. That way easier to move and not change the unis?

Kings jerseys are by far not the worst in the league. im not saying that as a biased fan, either. whoever says they are the worst needs to either have their eyes examined, or have the weirdest personal preferences

Not for real fans it isn't.

Not really sure what that means... but I am a real fan, and nothing bugs me more than to hear the media, tv commentators, players, and Joe blow cap on us. We are overdue for something to be proud of again.

It's hard to care about that when we haven't made the playoffs in over half a decade. Let's get some good players to PUT ON the jerseys, then let's worry about the design. Although knowing the Maloofs, they'll probably try to convince the NBA to adopt a "shirts vs skins" format

I think our jerseys are pretty terrible. Maybe not THE worst, but they aren't good.

I reallllly don't like the 'triangles' on the sides. I don't know why they are there or what they do to improve the look. The black ones are better, but again .. I could do without the dumb triangle scheme.

" No other Bay Area teams made the bottom two-fifths of the rankings"

Invalid drivel: Sacramento is NOT in the Bay Area.

Stop it everybody.

This man probably lives in his mom's basement trying to earn grocery money penning mornoic columns about sports jerseys. Jerseys! To say that this is just the opinion of one man gives the individual in question entriely too much credit. It is compltely irrelevant. He is completely irrelevant. His "career" is completely irrelevant. This thread is completely irrelevant. Ask your grandmother how she likes the jerseys and its 100% as valid as a response.

There is a right or wrong when analyzing a player's game. People may disagree who is on the right and who is on the wrong side, but there is one. There is no right or wrong in jersey design. Its pure aesthetics. Many people think the jerseys look snazzy. Some apparently do not. Either way its no more definitive than your boyfriend/girlfriend not liking tomatoes on her sandwich.

I don't like tomatoes on my sandwich. Got a problem with that? ;)

How the Seattle Seahawks didn't get this distinction is beyond me. Absolute worst uniforms in pro sports...and I'm a Hawks fan!!! HATE THEM!

Agreed. What bothers me is the 'triangles' are the same size. There's a basic rule in design to have contrasting thickness. I don't know who's doing the graphic design for the Kings, but they should be fired.

Doesn't Adrienne view herself as some fashion guru? I know we had to suffer through advertisements for her new line of shoes (while the old House Party Live them music played in the background).

In fact, when Kings PR folk sent our SoCal KingsFans a bunch of Kings T-shirts. the only word on the front was "KINGS"! Right, and we were to wear them to Staples arena for a Clips game? Where the LA Kings HOCKEY team also plays? No way Jose. So I had to pay to have a local T-shirt printer add the word SACRAMENTO in big bold letters to the T-shirts to eliminate any confusion.

The design/jerseys aren't that bad to get the distinction of being the worst in all of the major sports but a new re-design wouldn't hurt either: new font, new color (BLACK) and away jerseys that read SACRAMENTO. The current logo is nice but I personally like the old logo (See my avatar.) better but with new colors. I agree with the side triangles on the existing jerseys. Why?

And she just quit her show! She must be reading this thread.

There was nothing wrong with the prime-era (late 90's/early 2000's) standard black and purple, with the Kings in long block letters on the front
