Kings invite 19...Here are final 8 invitees

Ole CruzDude guessed right on 2 out of 4. Following are the 8 in addition to the 11 on contract as provided by Marty McNeal in Bee this morning:

Matt Barnes, 6-7, 235 UCLA 2002 (local guy who is on bubble)
Tony Bland, 6-5, 201, SDSU 2003
Erik Daniels, 6-8, 214, Kentucky, 2004 (this guy is a banger-rebounder!)
Maurice Evans, 6-5, 220, Texas 2001
Anwar Ferguson, 7-0, 200, Houston 2004
Alton Ford, 6-9, 280, Houston 2004
Liu Wei, 6-3, 198, China
Adam Parada, 7-0, 265, UC Irvine 2004 (is a true back-to-the-basket 5)

The Bee this morning (Thur 23rd) said the Kings have invited 19 to training camp and apparently Matt Barnes is one of them. Now the 64$ question. Who are the other 7 invitees? There are 11 signed contracts now + Barnes leaving 7 others.

My first guess is Chris Garnett, C, 6-11 255
Then Adam Parada, C 7-0 265 Grad UC Irvine 04
and maybe Kimani Ffriend, F, 6-11, 220
and outside shot Erik Daniels, F, 6-8, 214 (plays much bigger)

All 4 played on Kings summer league team. hmmmm....

just some info on fizer:

Henry Thomas, the agent for PF Marcus Fizer, says his client has drawn interest from "five or six teams that I would call serious." One team is rumored to be the Nets. But teams still are worried about Fizer's right knee, which Fizer first injured when he tore his ACL in January 2003. He reinjured it in the Bulls' 2004 season finale. Fizer had a hard time fitting in with the Bulls, who pushed him back in the rotation in favor of PFs Tyson Chandler and Antonio Davis. But when Fizer played, he showed he could be a scorer in the Corliss Williamson mold. Fizer has been working with trainer Tim Grover at Chicago's Hoops the Gym, and Thomas admits Fizer won't be completely ready when the season starts. "From what Tim says, for the first month, he can give you 10 to 15 minutes," Thomas says. "Around December, though, he should be able to go out and give you 20, 30, 40 minutes."

Rodney White is still in jail so don't think Petrie is going to bail him out to come to Kings camp :p Fizer is a risk physically and mentally or he would have been picked up by now.

yes he is, and he'll probably be cut after we play that exhibition game in China.

So we can be pretty certain that he won't be the 12 man. So that shortens up the list to 7 players to choose from. just can't wait to know who it is going to be. Hope that its someone with a little bit of NBA experience and a lot of hussle and defence :)

didn't Anthony Lumpkin (Clark Kent -- And1) and Liu Wei (China) already sign contracts for the Kings pre-season/training camp?

whoever, i dont care....

You never know who could with the game for you. Remember the Game6 against TWolves, I think Smith mades some free throws in the wanning minutes of the 4th quarter. And if we are lucky to get someone really good he might turn out to be 8th or 9th player instead of the 12th

The Bee this morning stated that Alton Ford is coming to camp. He is a BIG(I mean muscular) guy who can basically play D and rebound. Not a bad choice but the guy doesn't have much offensive game but he's still relatively young at 23 or 24. He's a pretty dirty/nasty player and I remember booing him for some fouls he committed against Webb a few years back. Be nice to have someone like that on the bench.

His reported size is 6-9, 280 so he carries some tonage. How about OTag and Ford tag-teamming guys trying to drive inside on the Kings? Road kill anyone?

So, the 7 slots are filling. Alton Ford, all 6-9 and 280 lb is being given a look and of course, Wei Lie, the 6-3 guard from China who hopefully can be more than just eye candy for the Kings pre-season games in China. That leaves 5 slots. I'll do my annual bling to the Kings staff and see what feedback we get.

Ford is difficult to read based on his limited stats (NBA.com/players). He left Univ of Houston after his freshman year as a second round draft choice of Phoenix. Averaged 8.5 min/game his first year but had no outstanding stats. His second year was at far end of bench. Then at Rockets for a bit, again not much. So Petrie must see something?

Wei Liu is even harder to know. He first showed up on the basketball radar screens at a Nike sponsored event in San Diego in 1998 along with Yau Ming, who overshadowed everyone else. So we wait and see. :D

Will Ford really make it to camp this year? We heard this story once before and then he bolted for another team.

Does anybody knows of any players that were invited to those pre season games, or summer leagues, and actually turned out to be good players in the pro's? (Doesn't have to be from the Kings)

Tim Duncan was a summer league attendee at the Rocky Mountain Review in Salt Lake City. So was Shawn Marion and if you go back far enough, Danny Ainge was in the summer league 20 years ago! :)

Media day is Friday and they have their first practice on Saturday. Thats what fox 40 said last night on their news cast.
