I should have known better. G3, you are a fiend. I truly thought this would be safe for a few rounds at least...

Dexter is not only one of my all-time favorite shows, I actually named my DVR "Dexter," which I know I've mentioned several times before.

FYI... this is one of the reasons I suggested the rule clarification. IMDB has separate pages for the separate hosts. I picked the Johnny Carson version in the draft I did, which is one of the main examples that made me bring up the rule clarification earlier in the thread.

If you're going to follow the updated rule #5, you'll probably have to pick a host.
My draft, my rules. Muahaha!!!

Since they were all called the Tonight Show, I rule that they all count as one show. They were all continuous (no long breaks between seasons), with nearly identical casts/production staff (hosts excepted), on the same network (NBC), and with the same premise (late night comedy show).

Hmmm... this is one of the drafts where I actually wish I was picking later in the first round so that I could get a feel for everyone's tastes, as I've got a ton of shows on my list that I could see going in the first round. This made deciding on a first pick difficult for me, but since I know the favorite show of at least one person who will be picking after me (sorry, VF) I figured the next show as a now or never pick.

Dexter - Showtime (2006-Present) -- I just love everything about this show. Especially the first and third seasons.
Damn that was my second round choice. Did not think it would be taken this early

Um, no way, dude.

The rule was questioned and clarified BEFORE the draft was started, indicating that www.imdb.com/tv would be the impartial arbiter. You cannot decide now to play the "my draft, my rules" card.

...If it has a unique IMDB page, it is a unique show and is draft eligible.
If anything, since the protest involves the pick of the draft commissioner, you need to ask an impartial arbiter for a ruling. Generally that would be one of the moderators - one who isn't participating in the draft itself.

Sorry, but I'm calling shenanigans on you going around a rule that was debated and added before the draft.

You're breakin' my balls VF. Since that interpretation cripples my pick I guess I'll have to void my 3rd overall pick and find a replacement. Crap. Pick up coming...

Well, as great as Carson was, I think separating the Tonight Show by host is crippling to a 3rd overall pick. So I need something with a bit more splash, something a bit more flavorful, something animated? With my make-up 1st selection, I choose:

Southpark (1997-Present)

Crude, sure, over the top, often, obscene, sometimes, but no one can complain that this show is not both original, and hilarious!

I didn't mean to cripple your pick. I actually thought that was the interpretation we decided on before the draft. I know I've been doing a lot of research on imdb.com/tv to make sure the shows I've got on my list each have their own unique page because of the rule uolj suggested...

I'm sorry if I created a headache, but take solace in the fact you took my SURPRISE pick right off the top of my list as your replacement pick.

;)

Loving this draft so far! If I wasn't so sure I would miss out on picking Seinfeld, I probably would've been a late addition to this draft, as I've thought of some more personal faves that I miss that most likely will go unpicked in this draft. But without Seinfeld, my list wouldn't be complete..

Being a basic cable subscriber, the only Dexter I knew of on TV was:

No?

Um...no. Dexter premiered on Showtime, where new episodes are still shown, but was run on CBS - with some editing for network TV. It is incredibly well written, fast paced and has some of the best developed and flawed characters you'll ever find... You'd have to see it to really appreciate it.

Well, I'm torn. All three of my #1 picks are still available. So after some soul searching, I justified this pick by coming to the conclusion that my life is just better with Lauren Graham and Alexis Blidel in it. So here it is:

Gilmore Girls (2000-2007)

Very well written show, never bored me, pretty emotional at times. This show amounted to a moving romance novel. Plus, Stars Hollow seems like a cool place. (I can just hear the guys going:"You know how I know..., but to hell with them.;))

I'm a Jeopardy guy myself too. Best game show ever!

I've never seen Dexter, or Gilmore Girls. I guess I'll have to give them a try :).
I thought the game shows would be safe into the 3rd round. Wow.

That's okay Jespher, I've never watched a single episode of Lost or Dexter either. This is an interesting draft.

For my first pick, I needed something I could watch for years and years and years....

Jeopardy!
1964 - Present

Although I prefer the mustachioed Trebek, I always enjoy playing along.
Geez! I'm getting killed in the first round! I don't even have very many TV shows and three of them are already gone. Bummer deal...pick coming...

THE AMAZING RACE

I'm almost embarrassed to take a "reality show" so early, but I truly do love this show. It's not about the race to me as much as it is about the geography. I love seeing places I wouldn't otherwise see and I find myself learning a lot about some other cultures. Of course, there is some mindless reality show type of stuff going on, too, but that's OK by me. In the end, I do get caught up in the race itself, but I find myself always rooting for the people who seem to truly enjoy traveling the world and who represent Americans in a positive light.

For my first pick, I'll select
LOST 2004-Present

I love everything about this show, the suspense, the characters, the twists and the WTF-moments that makes me crave for the next episode.

This one hurts. I love this show .. I almost picked it over The Office but I figured LOST had a better chance in making it to the second round. Im dissapointed.

On another note - I feel like Lost is a love it or hate it show .. I dont know any Lost fans who are just 'casual' watchers.

I agree. Personally I liked the first season the best, but it was all a bit too dark for me. I really tried to get into the show, but I finally stopped watching after the 3rd season...

Hah! Grandiose! I was very worried about this show dropping to me and although losing Gilmore Girls hurt, this would have been much worse. So, my first selection:

Monty Python's Flying Circus (1969-74, four seasons)

The Premise: Put six of the greatest comedic minds of all time into a room and let them write sketch comedy. Hilarity ensues.

For me, the Pythons to this day are the alpha and the omega of comedy. The kind of comedy perpetuated in Owl Stretching Time is completely unique and extremely appealing. I love sketches interrupted by an army official claiming that everything's gotten to silly, I love it when viking armies are needed to make actors go on and I love the level of heatedness that most arguments (or contradictions) tend to turn to. Moreover, seldomly do you see comedies with such genuinely talented actors, who understand everything that makes comedies work. Every single one of them would be capable of entertaining me for the rest of my life, but having them all together counts among the greatest things ever. Now excuse me please, I shall put on my knight's armor and slap somebody with a dead chicken.

Obligatory great moment of the show (among countless others):
