Kings assign Hassan Whiteside to the Reno Bighorns of the NBA Development League

IMO playing in D-League help you get better in D-League. Playing in the NBA help you get better in the NBA even in limited time. Unless we're playing for the playoff or something, I don't see the point on sending him to D-League. Get him into practice and developed him.
 
I don't have a problem with this. He needs to play and gain experience. Hopefully he'll get to work on some of the things he needs to learn, like passing the ball, and just learning different offences. Better to play in Reno than sit on the bench with the Kings. He'll even have some familar faces there. Both Sloan and the other Landry are on the team.

Not to mention getting in shape to play minutes period. This should help bridge the gap on what College to NBA is like, and in short term should be beneficial to him. I have a feeling this is short term until whatever trade we are getting our hopes up for happens.

True, but playing in the D-League >>> than NOT playing in the NBA, which is what Whiteside is doing right now. The Kings seem to prefer keeping their young players around to practice and get their coaching, but we saw Donte yo-yo between the D-League and NBA team. I agree with Bajaden, that at this point in Whiteside's development, this is a positive for him. We're so deep up front, he's just going to be watching games from the bench right now.

He played quite well got 4 blocks i think and when i turned off he had about 6 points.

He got in foul trouble fairly quickly but showed a couple of nice post up moves and even hit a fairly long fade away from a inbound pass.
 
That's encouraging, I think that is part of what might help his transition a bit easier if they coach him on avoiding NBA type fouls would help for when he's called back up to us to play if he has a semi-idea of what to avoid.. fingers crossed anyways
 
Glad he is getting playing time! The crowded front court left him no time on the Kings to improve, so the D-League is perfect for him. How may people go to those D-League games anyway? I always wondered about that. Are the crowds more than 5000? Anyway, it will do Hassan good to be playing organized (semi) Pro ball.
 
Yesterday on Sportsline Grant said that PW had driven up to Reno to check out the game.
 
PW was there for his first game as well.

Patrick Ewing JR had a tripple double last night as well something like 24 points 11 boards 11 assists. Sure it's D league but he's getting it done at the moment.
 
I still would have loved to see him go 6 6 and 5 blocks in garbage time in the real league. Hopefully he learns quick and comes back ready to contribute after the trade deadline when there will be some more room up front.

Nice to hear he could stay on the court for that long. Looking at the box score, he was an efficient 5/9 from the field, and was +21 for the game. D-League seems really good for Whiteside, he can learn the ropes slowly and we can bring him back next year to play next to Cousins.
 
Playing D-league illustrates what is Whiteside at this juncture. A raw talent in need of playing time and basic D-league type experience. Thru his first 5 games at Reno his stat line is just building:

7.0 pts/gm
45% FG
45% FT shooting!!!
4.6 reb/gm
3.8 blks/gm
3.4 PF

Would have expected more rebounds per 15 min but his quick fouling limits his time. Long ways to go and the D-league is the best solution for him this year. Lets see where he progresses at 10 and 20 games played in D-league. Reno is 7-2 to start the year and in first place in the West Conference. Nick Fazekas, a Nevada-Reno product and belonging to the Jazz (I think?) is getting 26 min/gm and leading team with 8.3 reb

(Yes, I am having more fun following Whiteside in the D-league than the Kings lately)
 
Whiteside with 1 point, 1 PF, and 3 blocks in 6 minutes, pretty much all in the 1st and 2nd quarter the other night. Is he so not ready that he can't even get more minutes in the D-League? Or doesn't fit into Musselman's system? Sour grapes from Musselman being fired by the Kings?
