Kidd to Kings?

Heard on the radio last night and read this morning on Hoops Hype that the Kings have inquired about sending Bibby to NJ as part of a package for J-Kidd. In terms of a total rebuild, this isn't a logical move. But if you want to win in the short term, certainly makes sense, as long as you're not giving up more than one core player. Here's a link:

BTW, a quick check of Real GM says that Bibby, Corliss and Cisco to NJ for Kidd works, cap-wise. May not be enough in the real world, but it's not an insult.

I almost wonder, after finally seeing a responsible quote from Geoff on the whole situation in that article this morning, if maybe Geoff is trying to do the rebuild deal, while the Maloofs continue to kick and scream and search for the short term #8 seed fix. Two seperate tracks.

Note the source again BTW -- Mitch Lawrence not only looks like a chipmunk, he's less credible than Alvin as a rule.

Shhhhh.

Staying in my happy place is largely dependent on maintaining the thought that the Maloofs are still in Vegas personally cleaning up the city after the All Star festivities. With shoulder bags and those little pokey stick thingies. And no cell phones.

Kidd is better then the garbage that they are trying to trade Bibby to Cleveland for. I know I know everyone is in love with the rebuilding thing. But I can't think of a team that has won a championship without some kind of veteran leadership. What comes first the chicken or the egg? The veteran leadership or the kids with talent?

You have to get your kids before you get your vets.

If you bring in the vets first, by the time the kids are ready, those vets are on their way out.

Get your cogs, then, bring in your vets.

You have that backwards, kids first. Then 34 year old vets. Kidd is worse than worthless to us. We can't win with him, and he prevents us from EVER winning.

This rumor makes no sense and would be inconsistent with the comments the Maloofs and Petrie have made recently. Nobody can build around Kidd - he's the guy that could push a playoff team to a contender for the next year or two. That's not us.

Agreed the Kings would never win a title or contend for one with the proposed move for Kidd. Then again, they've been making moves to insure a 7 or 8 seed for a few years now. Maybe the Maloofs saw The Producers
and saw some sense in a floundering production.

But for the sake of "what if" I do think the Kings are a better team in the present with Kidd than Bibby. And that's not because I think Kidd is better only that he is a better fit with Artest, Martin, etc. Much better in fact.

They'd make the playoffs and be running on the George Jetson treadmill to nowhere. At any rate this trade foreplay is far more interesting than any games they've played of late.

Kidd is way better than Bibby in everything but shooting. Kidd is a future HOF for sure. I would take Kidd over Bibby any day and twice on Sunday. However, saying all this - we don't need a quick fix and we should look in the other direction

Bibby/Thomas for Kidd makes sense for the Kings -- with the risk that Bibby isn't going to opt out, it actually is a good way of folding Bibby's and KT's contracts together into a deal that expires sooner than KT's. Kidd's deal is only for two more years, and he still has some left in the tank. It really may be one of the only ways of getting rid of KT's deal.

But if it's not Bibby/Thomas then no way does it make sense. And maybe it doesn't make sense from the standpoint that it makes the Kings too good.

I have to disagree that Kidd is miles better. When Byron Scott was coaching the Nets and the Kings had a real team I remember Bibby eating Kidd up time and time again. Bibby's ability to win big games surpasses Kidd's abilities, and having a guy who can drill game winning jumper is invaluable. Kidd is not that guy.

I don't think it's possible to evaluate Bibby at this point because of his badly concocted squad around him.

Uh... future Hall of Famer or never-All Star? I'll take future Hall of Famer. He's played light years better than Bibby this season.

What came first Duane Wade's greatness or Shaq to the Heat?

The #5 pick that netted Wade came first. If the Heat trade for Shaq before ever getting that pick, they never get Wade in the first place, and hence they never win a title.

Delayed gratification = smart sometimes. Get bad, get a star, THEN add pieces around him. Time tested and proven process.

Ugh They had Lawrence and Peter Vescey (where's the vomiting emoticon when you need one) were on the Rise Guys this AM. I only heard Vescey. He said it was the Maloofs that really, really want Kidd.

I'm going to assume Vescey probably doesn't know what the heck he's talking about, as usual. What an arrogant, rude ***hole.

At the very least I pray the Maloofs aren't trying to do any such thing.

It wouldn't even be a quick fix. The Nets were struggling even before Krstic and Jefferson went down. We have the same problems they have with athleticism up front and shooting on the perimeter, and they play in a much weaker division.

But if we had Kidd, we could dangle him to the Lakers for Bynum. That would be the only good thing to come out of it.

I understand that Wade was on the team first that's not what I asked. Kevin Martin looks good but he's not great. Could someone come to the team to make him great? Maybe. Would I rather have Kidd teach him NBA IQ then Bibby? Yes. Do I think this trade will happen? No. But it's still fun to talk about. Championships only take two great players and a bunch of roll players. Just my 2 cents.

Well unfortunately that ain't going to work -- given that the Lakers have steadfastly refused to give the Nets Bynum, there is no way in hell they would give him to us.

Did you not see Wade in the PO's his rookie year. That's why they were willing to trade Lamar Odom, who was having a breakout year for them after they almost wasn't able to sign him because he was restricted and the Clippers were flirting with matching. They also traded away Caron Butler who was in his second year and blossoming nicely.

It wasn't the fact that Wade was a high lottery pick, it was his performance in the playoffs as a rookie that led the Heat to choose him as their stud. The ice cold calmness and clutch shooting against Dallas last year, that was all there when he came in the league.

You have a link for that? Just curious, as I didn't think he was going anywhere anyways with that salary....

From Chad Ford's chat:

Max, Los Angeles: What's the latest on Jason Kidd? any chance that it will happen in the next 3 hours before the deadline?

Chad Ford: (12:04 PM ET ) Just talked to Kidd's agent, Jeff Schwartz, on my Daily Dish podcast. You can listen to the link from the ESPN.com NBA front page. He's saying that Kidd will be wearing a Nets uniform tomorrow. Sorry Laker fans.

But they'd be instant contenders, at least that's what Chad Ford thinks. :)
