Joe Maloof Plans to Re-sign Dalembert

Wow I was just about to make a thread asking if anybody has heard anything about keeping Dally, great news thanks for the link.

There was another tweet by Amick that Joe Maloof told him they plan to resign Dalembert. Samuel is not going anywhere.

To me, this is great news. Dalembert is very valuable to our contention as a solid veteran big that can really impact the game.

Maloof isn't mentioned once in the tweet. And neither resigning...

I'm not sure where you got this idea but I'm pretty sure the tweet is in reference to Sammy being traded or not traded this week.

Great news as Daly has apparently found his legs on the Kings and can contribute both to team and to Cousins as he takes a couple of years getting up to the high level where he can dominate in the West and help the Kings get to the next level. Not taking Alexander from the Hornets supports Daly resigning as well. I like it.

So if Joe Maloof plans on doing the re-signing does that mean Petrie is gone?

Could have just been speaking for the organization. The Maloofs have made simialr statemnts in the past, and its not as if the Great Stoneface is going to say anything, so I guess somebody has to.

Glad to hear this. This move would solidify the center position. A position, I might add that is one of the hardest to fill with quality players. The Kings would be in the position of having two very good, if not at least one great player at that position. Now with Landry gone, we definitely need some depth at the PF position. I don't know what the long term plans for Jackson are, but assuming he's gone, that would leave us with just Thompson and Whiteside. While Whiteside may eventually be the next coming of Karl Monroe, I doubt he'll be a solid contributer by the begining of next season. So a solid veteran to either start, or come off the bench behind Thompson will be needed. Hey, how about David West?

Uh no.

We've had every undersized non-rebounding turd of a PF in hte league pas through here in the last 5 years, no more. And while an upgrade at PF is certainly possible wiht our free agent money, if not I am willing to see what Whiteside can do in releif of Thompson. He's fixed his scrawny body issue, he has a great skill, and with he, THompson, Daly and Cousins we'd have (or continue to have) the biggest/longest frontcourt group in the NBA. Its one of the few things we do well this year. Very interested in continuing it.

I dont think we need to do anything with our bigs aside from bringing Dalembert back. Landry is gone, slide Whiteside in for the fourth big man minutes. Maybe you draft a PF/C in the second round or something for depth, but a Cousins/Dally/JT core is very good.

If Dalembert walks, then I start looking at some of the bigs in the draft with our 1st rounder. Maybe Sullinger or Kanter.

Things are starting to take shape though. The plan appears to be signing Dally first, if we can do that we probly go for a Small Forward or Kyrie Irving in the draft. If we get Irving, we target a SF in free agency or by trade. If we draft a SF we may go after a different point guard in free agency or look to use our cap space in a trade to give us an upgrade somewhere else.

Sounds good to me. I just hope it's not a 5 year deal or something like that, give him a 3 year deal or something. I only reason being that he tends to be jump shot happy at times and believes in himself WAY too much than he is supposed to on the offensive side of the ball.

I like Sammy. I hope he gets signed. He's a veteran and his experience is important. He can help out the young bigs develop. I appreciate his shot blocking skills. He needs to improve some areas of his game but the guy is still a keeper. Go Kings!

Chad Ford's great insight in a blurb at the deadline was that:

Sources say Sacramento has turned down several trade offers and will not buy him out.

The Heat, Knicks, Rockets and Thunder would all be interested in adding Dalembert, either via trade or after a buyout.

Um thx Chad. Why on Earth would we be buying out a major rotation player for us again?? Duh.

i really like sammy and hope he wants to stay here and signs. it would suck if he decided to go elsewhere when we could have traded him for something. hopefully GP has talked to him and has a good feeling he'll re-sign

Can we just negotiate an extension with Dalembert before the season ends to lock him in? I know we won't be clear on the CBA but that uncertainty goes both ways - Dalembert might be willing to consider a more reasonable deal knowing that his options are more limited under the new CBA?

That would be at his current salary. Way overpaid.

I did some research and Dalembert makes about as much as he should. I posted it. For instance, Bynum makes $1.5 mil more per year than Dalembert and Pao makes $6 mil more. There were some more compaable salaries but off hand I don't remember them. Name a player beyond the constraints of the rookie contract that you think is equivalent at the center position and I'll look it up. The centers are the highest paid players on the court as they are the most difficult to find.

Players know that the owners would be foolish to renew a contract with the CBA decision looming - the owners hold the chips in this one. Kings would theoretically still be able to re-sign him at the best price, but it would be the best price under the new CBA, which most likely isn't anywhere close to the old CBA.

I think I have riased this before! Good defensive Cs are the best paid types after superstars!

Take a look at the likes of Bynum, Okafor, Chandler, a 37 year old Camby, Noah, Biedris etc and you will realise that this is the going price for that type of player and rightly so as they are the most valuable asset on a team after the superstar!
