Joe Alexander?

Prospect
MILWAUKEE -- Two weeks after the third-year option on his rookie contract wasn't picked up, Milwaukee forward Joe Alexander says he wants to be traded.
Alexander's 2010-11 option for $2.76 million was not picked up by the Nov. 2 deadline, making him an unrestricted free agent next summer. In an interview with FanHouse before Tuesday's win over the Nets at the Bradley Center, Alexander was asked if he believes that means the Bucks could deal him as the February trade deadline approaches.
"They made it pretty clear that they don't see me having a future here,''
said Alexander, the No. 8 pick in the 2008 draft who averaged 4.7 points lastseason as a rookie. "So I'm assuming a trade would definitely be one of the options.''
Alexander then was asked if he would welcome a trade.
"I mean, yeah,'' he said. "If they don't want me, if they don't see a future
with me here, that really is the only other option.'

KT & Brockman for Elson Thomas Alexander ?

Probably one of the most athletic players in the NBA. Has a vertical of over 40 inches. Lacking in the skill dept though. He's only played organized basketball for four or five years, so you would be gambling long term on him. Could be worth the gamble. He's suspossedly has a good work ethic. I'd wait till the summer and maybe pick him up then. Who knows, you might be able to get him for crumbs then..

if we didnt have nocioni and garcia locked up for 4 more years, it would be worth the gamble... but since we have them on the team, no.... sorry joe...

He's just a good all-around athlete--reasonably quick on top of an explosive vertical, and packs good height to go along with that. But that's about it--it's mostly athletic clay, and that combined with his late-blooming ways have caused people to believe that he had more potential than most his age when in fact it has been covering up his lack of skills the entire time. One good year, athletic hype is one of the many recipes for overdrafting, and Alexander proves it.

I was reasonably surprised to see him drafted that high to begin with, because when he anointed the go-to guy in college, his offensive game was a mixed bag--he was poor from inside the arc and terrible from outside the arc, and to boot he was a poor passer for a SF, so he had no real offensive move to fall back on. He's not any defensive ace either, and in particular really really struggles to get into passing lanes. The only semi-interesting thing he did was get to the line and block shots, but those things that don't translate as well to the next level, especially since for the former, he doesn't have a respectable jumper to begin with. I don't think he'll ever develop three point range, ballhandling, defensive skills or passing ability, and if he makes it, it will have to be as an opportunistic scorer who plays off of others from the mid-range in, which normally translates to about 9th-10th man, at best. But now you top that with his injuries which might hinder the athleticism even further, and the intrigue might be lessened. I think he'll bounce around the league a bit after this season, but I don't expect a long NBA career from him--just really lacking in skills.

No need with both Casspi and Donte already here and looking promising. In fact we really need to shed a SF or two, not pick one up.

As an aside, I was going to ask who the hell is Joe Alexander, a second year player looking like a lottery bust, to be demanding a trade? Then I read the article and realized it was one of those deceptive titles -- he didn't do much more than flesh out the implications of Milwaulkee not wanting to pick up the option year in his contract.

As an unrestricted FA I'd be happy if we signed him to a small deal in the offseason... Classic low risk potential high reward ... Call me crazy, but I still think he has a shot.

The kid has a lot of potential, but like bajaden said, you can probably pick him up for cheap in the summer. But this is one of those guys you just cannot write off as a bust yet. Just someone who has exceeded so much expectation that you wonder if he has finally reached his ceiling or is this just another bump in the road?

As an aside, I don't know if it's his new hair cut or what, but Alexander seems to have grown another inch. He looks the same height as Donte Greene and just a bit shorter than JT in the summer league, at least on TV.

Here are two scenarios that make sense to me involving "Average" Joe Alexander.

Nocinoni for Elson, Average Joe, and Kurt Thomas
http://www.realgm.com/src_checktrade.php?tradeid=5291227

This gives the Kings a three enders for Nocioni's long deal. One of the enders is a prospect, and the other two are backup centers.

K9 for Elson, Average Joe, and Kurt Thomas
http://www.realgm.com/src_checktrade.php?tradeid=5291226

Swaps K9's expiring for more expiring pieces (basically a zero gain/loss trade on the contracts) and gives the Kings a prospect and two backup centers.

Do the Kings need Average Joe? Nope. Do they need a backup center? Oh yes.

We need an impact backup center -- Elson and Thomas (at this stage of his career) are trash.

Burning a major asset to scoop up a bust to maybe be the third most prmising young SF on our team makes no sense. And the other players are washed up.

No way. Didn't want him in the draft. Still don't want him.

Bingo...he seemed like a very overrated prospect at the time and he's basically proven that out. Kind of like Joey Graham, great athlete who looks great shooting 18 foot jumpers in workouts, but really brings little basketball ability to the table overall.

No way we're giving up one of our biggest trading pieces for a bust.

Yeah, we don't do that! ;)

this thread has so much phail :)

we're talking about joe "who the heck is he" alexander.. if he can't get playing time on that squad.. i don't know what to say.

Well, to be fair, he is injured right now. That's why he's not playing. And he's only been in the NBA one year. He's not a total washout...yet. He's just headed very quickly in that direction.

Maybe Alexander should try out for the Olympics as a decathlete.

He's an athlete, not a basketball player. We are full up with small forwards. Let somebody else waste their money on him.
