Javale Mcgee of Nevada

very very underrated player coming out..not a lot of ppl know who he is..i felt he should've waited until next year to come out, he could've easily been a top 5 pick, but he declared this year, and i expect him to be a lottery pick for sure...he has a lot of potential (dont they all? haha)...no but really, he's an agile 7-0 center...he is very athletic, also very lengthy...i would not mind the kings picking him at all

i saw him play this year against pacific in stockton, even though he had an off game you could easily tell he is quality nba material

The personnel board is 2nd door on the right, BTW...

I think a lot of people are confused by the wildly divergent scouting reports on the guy. If you look at nbadraft.net, for example, it gives him a 9 out of 10 for D, and says "great rebounder and shot blocker … Can really become a force defensively when he adds strength and discipline on opponent's shot fakes… His length makes it extremely difficult for opponents to get shots over." Then you look at draftexpress, and it says "might be the worst man to man defender we’ve ever evaluated in the post. Gets pushed around, gambles excessively for steals, has no stance or fundamentals, doesn’t move his feet, and is a complete non-factor even against the mediocre competition he faces. According to Synergy’s 'PlayType QuickTable stats,' McGee was scored on 66% of the time when being posted up in the paint (against the likes of Fresno State, Utah State, Houston, etc). Is light years away from being able to compete on an NBA level defensively, if ever."

So which is it, 9/10 defender, or worst ever? It matters, and I haven't seen him play. That makes it tough for me to feel good about him.

Maybe someone youtubed some Nevada games, I'd like to see for myself.

Go to the Personal board and you'll get your moneys worth of info on McGee. Watched him play twice. Terrible defender. Very raw and your right, he should have stayed in college another year. He has a lot of ( that dreaded word ) Potential, but I will be surprised if he's a lottery pick.

Being a UNR Alumni I have seen quite a few games.. I can upload a couple I still have to rapidshare if anyone wants..

Anyhow, nbadraft is wrong with that 9-10 D rating.. He kinda sucks on the D end. He does have some potential though. I would rather take Marreeese Speights though.

If you do upload any, I'd take a look. Already checked around for more than worthless (for purposes of evaluating D) highlight clips, and came up empty handed.

Why? He screams Patrick O'Bryant to me. And we already have our center of the future, remember? Why risk a bust at a position we don't need?

McGee can play PF too.. McGee is a better distance shooter than a guy like Speights, but Speights has a more natural PF type game (post moves, and a better midrange power game). McGee can shoot the college 3 if he wants, but still, his defense is about as bad as Love's if not worse at this point so there isn't any reason we take a chance on him if Speights is available.

Even though I like certain things about McGee, I don't think we'll be in a position where we need to pick him. One of Speights, Arthur, or Randolph should be available, all have good just as good or nearly as good of upside but with more polish than McGee.

The truth is quite insightful. I'm sorry you can't see that.
I have no problem with the truth, I like it a bunch. I have a problem with the spewing of opinion devoid of content, though I am becoming used to it from a certain someone.;)

Well, when you have as much credibility in the business as smills, I think you can take a break from adding content to your opinions. He shouldn't have prove his opinions are of high value, you should just accept that they come from a genius line of reasoning. He just didn't want to bother us common folk with a bunch of complicated reasons that we wouldn't even be able to grasp ;)

Does anyone know how to cut the game file in half? It wont let me upload such a big file to rapidshare.. Or do you know of any place that I can upload it to w/o breaking the file up?

If you want to install the (free) VLC media player, http://www.videolan.org/vlc/ I can tell you how to use it to edit, capture or transcode (change format of) any filetype it will play, which is almost anything you can get a codec for. That means you can also convert files to more compact forms if you want. Transcoding takes a while (it's pretty CPU-intensive), but that could shrink the files enough to keep rapidshare happy, at a cost of some video quality. So there are two approaches.

That's probably the only thing I use that would work for you, I haven't used Windows for a while.

Dear Pot, meet Kettle.

I thought it was a concise, snappy editorial. And free I might add. Enjoy.

I hope it works. I would be very interested in seeing more film on McGee. I have several programs that convert and shrink files, but there mostly for converting to dvd. I don't know if they would work for this.

Unless his files are in a very unusual format, it will work, and it's pretty easy to use (GUI-based wizard). I've used it to turn DVDs into mp1s, mp2s, mp4s, and so on, of varying bitrates, as well as converting audio files between formats. The Windows version will also do divx or h264 video formats if provided with the correct codecs. The only drawback is that it does one-pass encoding, which results in less than amazing video quality during scenes with lots of motion, so it's not what I usually use for archiving DVDs. But for youtube-quality video, any sort of audio conversion, or a quick and easy way of trimming or splitting a media file, it's great.

I suspect you know more about this than I do. I'm sort of a hit and miss guy. I tried dvd shrink and didn't like it because I thought it lost video quality. I had some other people tell me I was nuts. Quite possible that I'am. The main one I use is ConvertXtodvd. It works great and is a lot quicker than some others without any video loss that I can detect.

I do my conversions under Unix or Linux, mostly using highly configurable, but user unfriendly programs, with commands like...

mencoder dvd://3 -dvd-device /mnt/cdrom -oac mp3lame -passlogfile mencoder.log -lameopts cbr:br=56:mode=3 -fps 24000/1001 -ovc x264 -x264encopts subq=6:frameref=5:weight_b:threads=auto:b_adapt: partitions=all:bframes=5:b_pyramid:qcomp=0.8:keyint=600:bitrate=700:trellis=2: pass=2 -o "/tmp/output.avi" 2>&1

Excellent quality output, but not for the faint-hearted, and not possible for Windows users, unfortunately.

Provided you recorded these and they are legal to upload (assumed) - you may want to try Handbrake if it handles the video files you have - I use it for putting DVD video into a size and format my iPod can use.

kickbutt thanks I will try that. It was given to me in segments but I have no idea what I did with the RAR so I have one "put together" .avi or whatever.

Well I watched Mcgee quite a few times this year at Nevada and from what I've seen, he is a pretty decent shot blocker(weak-side) and rebounder because of his length. He could hit the occasional college ball 3, and he runs the floor well enough for a big. However, his man to man defense is not good (he needs more strength), he has little to no post game, and he should not have made the leap this year. Potential? Yes, he can be GOOD if he can develop that post game, not go for every ball fake and play better D..

What did you just call me? Wow, that looks like my cippino receipe.
