Jason Terry at practice facility

Section 101

All-Star
Looks like he may play for the Kings this year after all.

Terry's tweet from Wednesday showing him shooting a 16-footer in the Kings' practice facility is another indication that the soon-to-be 37-year-old intends to play out his contract in Sacramento this season. "Full extension follow thru we have lift off felt right at home," Terry wrote. It may have been a run-on sentence, but he made his point. He's calling Sacramento home. And you can expect him to play for the Kings this season.

I'll believe it when I actually see him in a Kings uniform on Oct. 29.

Could not be any worse than Empty and Jimmer at either end tbh

The fact that a player under a regular contract could decide if he wants to play or not is really wrong to me. If you want your paycheck, get to the gym and start acting like a pro, like every other single worker on this planet. I'd like to tell my boss "Hey, I don't think I feel like working for you this year" and see if he still pays me or not for the next 12 months...

Terry is a King right now and he needs to do what the coaching staff wants him to do. This shouldn't even be a news.

Laugh out loud that is too funny, my favorite part was it mentioning how we was shooting a '16 foot' jump shot, what great significance!

He probably needs to establish he can play for any value.

While I understand your point, he is under contract to us, so unless were willing to eat his contract, he'll be sitting on our bench. The only way he could decide not to play for us would be for him to retire. Other than that, he has little power in the situation. I'll be surprised if he does actually suit up for us, but if so, I certainly hope he's in good health. He is a very good shooter.

I can't imagine his paper has much trade value beyond being an ender unless he can/does play and even then I doubt teams will be clamoring for him to play. But as an ender his contract is tradeable.

You probably aren't on a guaranteed contract at your work though.

I am, but does it matter? If I don't do the job I'm getting paid for I get fired, and my boss has all the rights to do it. How do these NBA guaranteed contracts work? Do you still get paid if you refuse to play? That would be weird.

If he is working out seriously or casually at our practice facility it seems to indicate he is on speaking terms with the Kings which is better than the opposite.

Can't be a bad thing. Maybe somebody talked him into showing class through the situation. Let him bring some locker room presence or whatever, help coach Ben, and maybe just maybe we'll help him on his way to stupid Dallas.

Jason Terry ? Has the conversation really degenerated to discussions of whether or not a semi retired player will be riding pine or not ? OMG !! OCTOBER cant come FAST ENOUGH !!

But can Jason Terry help the Kings this year IF he gets his head on straight and decides to play with Kings? Certainly has experience and is a great shooter. Maybe he can help with McLemore and Stauskas for awhile?

At least hes a vet. Hes won a championship too. Is he going to be willing to spread his wisdom to our young players or will he just mail it in?

I have a feeling someone has been working on him to have him come around to see how compelling the vision for this team is. He may have been inspired by leadership... and we'll just see.

It's funny... it seems like a lot of Kings fans have almost no concept of what inspired and inspiring leadership is/can do. It makes ALL the difference. And WE HAVE it.

The savy vet trick only really works if that player has some sort of tie to the team. So for us, that'd be someone like bringing back Cisco, who would be a player-coach of sorts. All guys like Jet Terry are thinking about is how quick they can get out of town.

Not if the team might actually want them and be able to convince them of international endorsement deals and building something special for the next 3-4 years in the twilight of their careers.

I know it takes a while, but can we at least TRY to begin to unlearn that this is not a free agent hell hole anymore?

“I wouldn’t say it’s rebuilding, but a building process,” Terry said. “DeMarcus Cousins a huge talent. Attitude, a little shaky. Rudy Gay, not a proven winner in this league but a tremendous talent and a guy you can build around

Until he really says something about really wanting to be part of our team, and part of getting us to the playoffs, Jason Terry can rot on the inactive list until we trade his ender in Feb, or if one of our young SG's has an injury
Its not our team trying to unlearn anything, its about Jason Terry's own public comments

Jason Terry has been in the league for 15 years, and throughout that time, he's been very, very consistent. He has a lifetime 3pt average of just shy of 38%. Now I'm not going to blow smoke up anyone's lower anatomy, but he's probably still capable of giving someone 15 decent minutes a game. By that I mean, he still capable of helping to space the floor and hit a key shot here and there. I'm also not going to pretend that I know what's going on inside his head. For him to say he'd rather be in Dallas is no surpirse. He had a very successful run there, and apparently likes the coach, and management. Every time a player says he rather be somewhere else, I don't take it as slight on sacramento. Lets be honest, our past history hasn't been the best of late.

However, if he's a true competitor, then it doesn't matter. I've played on teams that I didn't like for one reason or another, but when I went on to the field, they always got everything I had to give. I always wanted to win, and it didn't matter who my teammates were, or what the name of the team was. When I look at Terry's accomplishments, he doesn't appear to be an athlete that decides whether he's going to compete or not depending on the situation. Frankly, I still think he'll be moved before the start of training camp, but if not, I fully expect him to bring everything he has to the table. He's done that throughout his career, and I don't think he wants to end his career on a sour note.
