Ah, the Jason Williams era in Clipperville ... all those memorable weeks.
Signed as a free agent on Aug. 7 by the Clippers, the point guard called it quits Friday. He didn't even make it to the first official practice, let alone media day.

His 10-year NBA career wound through Sacramento, Memphis and Miami, and L.A. as a final coda.

The final numbers: a career average of 11.4 points and 6.3 assists.
Jason, we hardly knew ye. I'll have a story, more details later on latimes.com.

Yeah, that was odd and hurts the Clips -- they've suffered a lot of blows this offseason. Together he and Baron might have been able to combine for a full 82 games. ;)

They should look into Tinsley to cover that 40 game gap. ;)

wierd.. just came out of nowhere...

and he just signed with them too...

didn't see this one coming at all... none the less good luck j-will...

and thanks for the awesome awesome memories..! he is the one after all who made me a kings fan.

Steppin up to lend my voice to the mix. J-Will, you were the one, FOR ME, that first brought my attention to the Sacramento Kings. It was a great thrill to watch you do your thing out on the hardwood floors of Arco. Can never forget those days. Thanks for the memories. Best of luck.

Jason's knees are about 20 years older than the rest of his body. I think he (and/or the Clippers) came to realize he was not going to be able to stand up to the punishment of another season. I think, by retiring, his contract with the Clips is voidable.

I wish him well and, like the rest of the guys who started us on that first ride, I'll never forget him.

Wow. this one shocked me. I will miss him. I still loved watching him play. He will aloways be on my list of favorites!

If it wasn't for the J-Will/C-Webb duo, my family never would have gotten into the Kings. We moved up from the LA area so my parents had been fans of the Lakers since the Magic Johnson days. If it wasn't for the excitement he brought to the table, my view on the Kings might be a whole lot different today. Thanks J-Will and good luck.

Thanks for the excitement you brought to the Kings, that help start an amazing run for Kings fans. I wish you all the best in retirement, Jason. :)

I became a Kings fan because of J-Will as well. As a PG myself, I enjoyed every moment of your game. Good luck with your future endeavor.

Hope you manage your money better than Spree... :p

Definitely unexpected, considering that based on his stats and current production he could still be useful as a backup PG, as a guy who could solidly score and pass with the second unit. But his signs of deterioration were already prevalent ever since his Miami days--assists sliced in half, shooting percentages went to hell, and became a real roleplaying starter who really struggles when the ball is not in his hands (considering he's not a good enough spot up shooter to make up for it; not to mention that he can't D up either). Again, at age 33 and with the looming threat of injury coupled with his increasingly lackluster play, there was always a chance for retirement--but I can name at least 10 guys off the top of my head who should've retired before he did.
