It's a conspiracy!!! (split from #1 draft pick thread)

Why do I have a feeling we're going to end up with the 3rd pick......:(

We are getting the number 1 pick write it down bookmark it do what ever you want we're getting it. The NBA owes us if it wasn't for us they wouldn't have one of the best series in NBA history going on with the Bulls and Celtics thanks to the Kings trading Miller and Salmons. They also wouldn't have the Rockets facing the Lakers in the second round if the Kings didn't give Ron Artest away. And they also owe us for robbing our championship in 2002 all in all we deserve reparations from the NBA and that will come in the form of the number 1 pick and Griffin or the least number 2 pick and RUBIO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So you're saying the NBA is going to rig the lottery for us?

I'm beginning to get the feeling that something like half of the posters here actually think the lottery will be rigged. Of course, most of those think that it'll be rigged AGAINST us, but it's only the prevalence of the sentiment rather then the sentiment itself that shocks me these days.

Unfortunately, what bothers me the most is that I don't find it at all shocking that so many people think it will be rigged. There are way too many people willing to believe any and all kinds of conspiracies. I have to wonder if they even teach statistical analysis in school any longer...

Of course, it's probably the same kind of mindset that makes so many people feel like victims. Nothing can be random; everything has to be someone else's fault... But that's a topic for another day (and another board).

Seeing Rajon Rondo for the Celtics, I'm even more inclined to hope we go after Ricky Rubio. Hey, he'll be a superstar. He has the same lucky initials as Rondo.

:p

I'm throwing all statistics out the window all that mumbo jumbo and yess the NBA lottery is rigged we all know it and in that case Stern is going to help us out and give us that precious number 1 hahaha that's my wish

If you're going to make an outrageous suggestion that it's rigged, you should probably provide some evidence to support your conspiracy theory.

I'll make an even better suggestion. If he's convinced it's rigged, he can start his own little thread to discuss the conspiracy theory... Why junk up this one?

Vlade, if anyone actually had proof, then it wouldn't be a theory. It would just be a conspiracy. Not as much fun..:D

Here you go since you question my statement which I can understand we were discussing this over on the real gm board and a guy posted this video also watch the video on his page about the 2002 Kings series that was obviously rigged. Remember on this video to click the info button as the guy has put pointers to what exactly is questionable.

Well, that explains it... :p

I've split this off into its own thread. Feel free to discuss the vast NBA conspiracy to your heart's content BUT keep it civil. You guys start making it personal and sniping at each other and the thread will be closed.

I do have one question you conspiracy theorists need to think about and answer...

If there is this vast conspiracy, why hasn't TMZ or Smoking Gun or Matt Drudge or one of the other myriad of investigative websites gotten irrefutable proof? Do you realize how difficult it would be for all the people concerned to keep their mouths shut and not succumb to the lure of easy money, especially if there wasn't anything they could be prosecuted for?

It's really easy after the fact to go back and point to things that can support a conspiracy theory. But just because you can see some feathers, it doesn't mean you're necessarily looking at a duck.

Chi-town gettin the number one pick with like, a .8% chance so that the major market franchise nets the hometown kid, who happens to be a star maybe?

Granted the draft before, Stern was apparently mad as hell that Seattle (RIP) and Portland got the top two picks considering they are(were) relatively small market teams...As opposed to the league worst major market Cs getting top 2....That puts a fly in the conspiracy ointment.

Really, people gotta just put things in perspective. We are the worst team, but we only have a 1 in 4 chance of getting the top pick. Chances are we're picking 2-4.

Granted if Stern does want to rig the lotto in our favor....I wont complain.

thought i'd might post this here since it seems appropriate. This is proof that the lottery HAS been rigged before. IT's the video of the NBA 1985 draft where patrick Ewing was eventually selected by the knicks. It amazed me that this could happen at first but after seeing the various events over the past decade that point fingers at the NBA's credibility , I'm not surprised. Maybe they have realized their mistakes by now, but we'll see. I recommend watching the video.

Yeah this is the video I posted above for the proof they asked for. I think it's selectively rigged and what I mean by that is for good measure they let some drafts go according to the system, but for instance last year they helped Chicago, because of their down fall from the Jordan era. You see the NBA is only good as it's largest markets and teams which is why you had Chicago magically get their hometown kid with the number 1 pick with .8 percent chance. I think in our case two things can happen. Stern who has been advocating an arena for us can fix the draft for us to get either Griffin or Rubio to stimulate our fan base again. Or he could rig it to where the Thunder get Griffin another hometown kid that would also help justify the team's move from Seattle. You could also see magically again the Knicks winning the lottery so they get buzz around them going in 2010 for the Lebron sweepstakes. Ultimately I hope he can see how much we need to keep the Kings and rigs it for us, but the draft is definitely suspect seeing how it is not transparent.

Indeed, I was thinking exactly the same thing when Milwaulkee got the #1 pick in '05, and Orlando in '04. Those damn major market franchises always getting the top picks just really steams me.

As always, conspiracy theorists are rather weak mentally and half a step up from some tribal shaman 10,000 years ago inventing explnations for why there was an eathquake. You ran across the great god Ooga Booga's corn field, and the next day there was an eathquake! Ooga Booga be mad! Of course ignoring the hundred times before that people had run across Ooga Booga's field without the eath trembling, because its not convenient to explain those things.

Indeed after the 1985 Ewing to NY draft, here were your #1 overall picks

'86 Cleveland (because obviously you rig it for Cleveland)
'87 San Antonio (major major market)
'88 Clippers (you suck for as many years as they have, this will happen eventually)
'89 Sacramento (we benefit from the major market conspiracy! muhahaha!)
'90 New Jersey
'91 Charlotte (damn major markets!)
'92 Orlando (damn major markets!)
'93 Orlando (damn major markets!)
'94 Milwaulkee (damn major markets!)
'95 Golden State
'96 Philadelphia
'97 San Antonio
'98 Clippers
'99 Chicago
'00 New Jersey
'01 Washington
'02 Houston
'03 Cleveland
'04 Orlando
'05 Milwaulkee
'06 Toronto
'07 Portland
'08 Chicago

So after looking at that list, I think I'm going to have to change my tune. Now I too am upset at the league for blatantly trying to feed major market dynasties in Orlando (3 #1s), Milwaulkee (2 #1s), Cleveland (2 #1s) and San Antonio (2 #1s), all the while feeding pieces to the glamour franchises in New Jersey (2 #1s) and Clipperland (2 #1s). The sneaky bastards!

That point was already made in my post when I brought up the Oden/Durant draft...

...My conspiracy theories start and end with ref haha, I tend to believe in the legitness of the lotto.

The lottery certainly isn't a conspiracy, but I've had a strange feeling that we'd get the 3rd pick for quite some time now, even before Rubio looked like he was declaring.

Ah come on. The "I've had this strange feeling" stuff is just silly IMHO. You're making a "prediction" that has better odds than yesterday's winner of the Kentucky Derby. (Oh wait - the favorite pulled out mysteriously at the last minute and a 50-1 shot wins??? CONSPIRACY!!!)

Oops. Sorry. I drifted for a minute.

:)

Anyway, we're either going to get 1, 2, 3 or 4. I do not want to see anyone on this board try the "See, I told you!" if they post a 1 in 4 "hunch" and it ends up being right. That's like predicting your morning toast will have a butter-like substance on it when it's served at Denny's.

;)

When the time comes that Ooga Booga decides to smite you for this heresy, and we both know it's just a matter of "when" and not "if," can I have your bat? I think Taz could find a use for it.

They don't, I mean, at least they didn't at Grant (where I went), Natomas or Rio Linda. I had to ask to be placed in a class that even sniffs that stuff.

So that covers alot of northern Sacramento's misguided belief that it is rigged.

Totally OT - When I attended school in the Grant Unified District (Don Julio Jr. High School and then Highlands High), the curriculum was incredible. I took Algebra, Algebra II, Geometry, Trig, Probability and Statistics and Advanced Math. Of course, that was a lot of years ago. They were still offering Latin as a language choice, which I also took - along with a couple of years of French. I look at the classes currently offered to students and I'm surprised we aren't already living in "Idiocracy."

Yes, I've seen that video series that he made. It was very entertaining, well made and I enjoyed it immensely, but ultimately one of the most blatant pieces of propaganda I've ever witnessed. It's almost so blatant that I truly question the sincerity of it. Not that he doesn't show true screw ups in that series, but rather he really doesn't tie it together well to his wider Stern led conspiracy, and he fails to even attempt to show the bad calls the Lakers got. The video is extremely one sided, and full of unconnected and extremely subjective evidence. It's not a sincere investigation.

Anyways, as far as the 85 lottery is concerned could you have presented a more irrelevant and subjective piece of evidence to support your claim? Even assuming that it was truly rigged the lottery format has changed since then and it's not cardboard being pulled out of a plastic drum by the commissioner. If there was a conspiracy 24 years ago that doesn't mean there is one now, it's a logical fallacy. As far as the bent corner theory, it's about as lazy as any theory can be. If people weren't looking for a conspiracy they'd notice that there were other envelopes that were bent as well from the tumbling. Also, (from what I can tell) none of the envelopes were bent before they were put in.

So what if Chicago won? In 1999 the Hornets went from 13th to the top 3. Does that mean there is a conspiracy just because the odds weren't in their favor? What about all the times the top pick didn't end up in their hometown when they could have? Have you researched that? Coincidences happen, especially when people can make up motives left and right for why said team won a particular lottery.

Vlade4GM...I think you're missing the part where gunks admits he has his tongue firmly imbedded into his cheek:

...My conspiracy theories start and end with ref haha, I tend to believe in the legitness of the lotto.

Vlade I understand what you are saying and it's easy to doubt it. I'm not saying every draft is rigged and I understand the format has changed, but the point is if they've done it before they would have a higher propensity for doing again right? Look at the players some of these teams got. A Ewing, Rose, Howard, Lebron I mean lets be serious that's a good time for the draft to be rigged. Honestly I'm not damning the whole lotto process and saying Stern picks who he wants it to go to every year. That would be to blatant and obvious so of course it won't be every year. I just think there is some foul play involved not regarding just the draft or lotto, but games as well and we'd be naive after seeing what happened first hand to the Kings to think the NBA doesn't intervene in certain situations. What ever the case I still feel we are going to get the number 1 or number 2 with no logical explanation besides the fact I feel we are due.

shhhh people who find evidences tends to.................disappear

i have a friend smithy mcgee who stumbled upon the draft secrets... the next day his house was on fire and that some men took him and i Never saw him again .....:p

Nice one, Aenadin. You do realize that by posting that on a public message board you have opened yourself up to a visit in the wee hours of the night by guys in dark suits and even darker cars, right? And you'll probably never be seen again, either...

Everyone knows the government monitors sports message boards.

Good topic. I also beleive the Kings have accumulated a handful of brownie points with the NBA for buying out/trading players, and allowing the Lakers to win that series without taking legal actions with ramifications much larger than the Donoughy story. I am sure that it will work out with or without the #1 overall because Kwame Brown is proof that the first pick isn't always a franchise player. Now, if we drop out of the top 4, I would have to say the draft isn't legit, and Stern/MSE are cooking up ways for the kings to leave Arco or leave sacramento or both. I think that Petrie has accumulated alot of positive karma, and it is bound to come back around like it did with Artest coming to sacramento for nothing. I still don't think Petrie could smell talent if it was farting in his face, but he does a great job in finding niche NBA players and farms them well.
