Chi-town gettin the number one pick with like, a .8% chance so that the major market franchise nets the hometown kid, who happens to be a star maybe?
Indeed, I was thinking exactly the same thing when Milwaulkee got the #1 pick in '05, and Orlando in '04. Those damn major market franchises always getting the top picks just really steams me.
As always, conspiracy theorists are rather weak mentally and half a step up from some tribal shaman 10,000 years ago inventing explnations for why there was an eathquake. You ran across the great god Ooga Booga's corn field, and the next day there was an eathquake! Ooga Booga be mad! Of course ignoring the hundred times before that people had run across Ooga Booga's field without the eath trembling, because its not convenient to explain those things.
Indeed after the 1985 Ewing to NY draft, here were your #1 overall picks
'86 Cleveland (because obviously you rig it for Cleveland)
'87 San Antonio (major major market)
'88 Clippers (you suck for as many years as they have, this will happen eventually)
'89 Sacramento (we benefit from the major market conspiracy! muhahaha!)
'90 New Jersey
'91 Charlotte (damn major markets!)
'92 Orlando (damn major markets!)
'93 Orlando (damn major markets!)
'94 Milwaulkee (damn major markets!)
'95 Golden State
'96 Philadelphia
'97 San Antonio
'98 Clippers
'99 Chicago
'00 New Jersey
'01 Washington
'02 Houston
'03 Cleveland
'04 Orlando
'05 Milwaulkee
'06 Toronto
'07 Portland
'08 Chicago
So after looking at that list, I think I'm going to have to change my tune. Now I too am upset at the league for blatantly trying to feed major market dynasties in Orlando (3 #1s), Milwaulkee (2 #1s), Cleveland (2 #1s) and San Antonio (2 #1s), all the while feeding pieces to the glamour franchises in New Jersey (2 #1s) and Clipperland (2 #1s). The sneaky bastards!
