i think jimmer will suprise ppl. everyone tries to say he this and he is that.. but now that he is with guys with talent i think he can be a very good PG and open things up for us

Yes I think he will be a starting guard for us. He is the perfect 3rd option on a contending team IMO. I look for him to start near the end of next year assuming we lock up Thorton. Cousins, Reke and Jimmer is an exciting core if you ask me.

Ha. We partly agree on something. Not sure if it will be opening night, but I think Jimmer will be our point by mid season.
Do people forget what Westy is like with new toys? But seriously, I think it will be a Jimmer/Reke backcourt by, say, March 1st, with Thornton as the 6th man.

We'll see what happens i think he'll be a bench player starting when injuries come around. Reke and Thornton showed last year they were a good pairing and i just dont see anyone taking the offense off the ball dominant reke.
Even if he does start a few games next to reke that doesnt make him the instigator of the offense - the role of the 1. That will remain with Tyreke

I will be very surprised if our starting back court on opening night isn't Tyreke and Thorton.
I think Reke and Thornton will be starting in the backcourt. Jimmer will have to earn his stripes before he gets ahead of Thornton.
Anyway, if we're talking about the ideal PG, i don't think Jimmer will be it, though he could be if he switched up his style. From what i've read and heard, he's a scorer. That's not what i would like to see from our future PG. We already have a star guard in Tyreke who can score at will ( with enough training ), and Cousins a potential star center who has proven he's capable of toying with the star centers of the league.
I think Jimmer might be able to fill a role similar to the way Barea played last year for the Mavericks, but possibly better with greater size and shooting ability.

From what I gather he appears to think very very lowly of a) Tyreke Evans (shown by his Durant comment) and b) Jimmer (shown by this comment), thus is really not funny posts randomly bringing up Kevin Durant and suggesting that the D-league is the only place where Jimmer could possibly start on opening night.

I think extremely highly of Evan's game. I'm skeptical his jumper is "on". I would be beyond thrilled if it was. I see that improvement taking a long time. I don't think Evans will score 25ppg this year, especially if he's getting there with jumpers.
I also think there is 0-chance Jimmer is our starting PG opening day. I expect us to start Evans and Thorton at PG/SG, assuming the roster stays the same.
That's all. Overly sarcastic; sure. I just think people have unrealistic expectations.
I'm probably more optimistic about the Kings than many fans. I think we simply need to age and preserve our caproom for the time being. I do like the Haye's signing if it ends up going through. I'm thrilled with the roster.
Really though. Jimmer isn't going to start for the Kings on opening night. Down the line; maybe, though I think his ceiling is Bobby Jackson level of impact bench player.
I suppose that's fair, but like you said - overly sarcastic. I think Jimmer will become a better player than Bjax though

I'm a huge Jimmer fan and have been for a couple of years now. But I doubt he'll be the starting PG on opening night. The transition from college to the NBA is a giant step, and it takes time for the adjustment. Jimmer, being a four year player should have an easier time than a one and done player, but he'll still have his early ups and downs. Everything moves faster in the NBA and the inclination for a new player is to play faster, and that gets the player into trouble.
For those that think that Jimmer is just a 3 pt chucker, your going to be surprised. He's a very good ballhandler with an excellent cross over dribble. He spent a large part of every game at BYU trying to set up his teammates. Most of the time when he got himself into trouble it was when he was trying to setup a teammate, or when he was down to the last few ticks of the clock and tried to drive the lane. That said, he was very good at getting to the basket and finishing, despite the fact that many times he was being doubled and even tripled by the opposing defense. He was often doubled teamed as he crossed the halfcourt stripe.
Jimmer is a good passer, but not necessarily a spectacular passer. In other words, he won't take your breath away like a Magic Johnson. The most important point I can make about him, is that he's the consumate team player. He's unselfish, and will do whatever is asked of him to win. He's an extremely hard worker, and in his four years at BYU was always in top shape, borne out by the fact that he played almost every minute of every game last year. Don't expect him to not make mistakes, especially early on. But in a couple of years, I think everyone will grow to appreciate and love his game. You notice that I didn't mention his shooting once. That will speak for itself!

Never said I wished it. But the odds on him being out for a few weeks sometime during the year with an ankle problem are high. Starting off the year with a short training camp and who knows what condition players are in is just asking for player injuries at the start of the year.

I have read Bajaden's posts regarding Jimmer for some time now and defer to his judgment. I basically agree with his observations. Just because Jimmer is older than other rookies and a six foot white guy, doesn't mean that he wont grown into a very good NBA player. I think Jimmer's been unfairly pegged as the "great white shooter," but his game is so much more than that. So to answer the thread this question asks, "YES!," but probably not for a year or two. Remember, even guys like Jimmer probably need 1-2 years to learn how to run the point at the NBA level, if not more.

I can definetly see the Kings running a triangle or Princeton-like offense with their roster, since Hayes, Thompson, and Cousins are all talented distrubters and there's no true "point guard" on the roster as far as I can distinguish. So for any kind offense where the point guard is off the ball quite a lot, Jimmer definetly has the tools to technically start at that position. But I think he can also be used in pick and roll scenarios quite effectively.

I can see Jimmer becoming a starter in this league very easily. I'm willing to bet that most Kings fans have either only seen him play in the NCAA tournament and highlights. I've been able to watch him all four years he was at BYU, and here is my analysis:
He can flat out score. He will probably have to adjust to the speed of the NBA game at first, but scoring won't be a problem. If you go back and watch him play, you'll notice a couple things. First, he only scores when his team needs the points. The four times he was held under twenty, the average margin of victory was 30 points. In games vs. Top 25 opponents, he averaged 41 ppg. Second, he starts games slow. He has to get a feel for what the other team is doing defensively. The only time he was somewhat contained offensively (@SDSU), he had 9 assists and 25 points. People who are worried that he will only want to shoot, shouldn't be worried at all. Jimmer wants to win. Defensively, he won't be as bad as everyone thinks. He won't be a lockdown defender by any means, and will initially struggle against the top guards, but he'll learn to hold his own. A little known fact is Jimmer is 3rd in all time steals at BYU, behind Celtic great Danny Ainge and backcourt mate Jackson Emery.
Here's hoping that Jimmer will succeed in this league. Even though I live in Utah, I hate the Jazz. It's good to finally have a team that I have a reason to follow. While waiting for the lockout to end, I've watched alot of highlights from Tyreke, and I am very impressed. I'm really excited to get this season started. Go Kings!
