If Webber is released...

IMO I don't think Webber would'nt be anything but a backup PF. And he is not going to accept anything less than a starting role. Coming back to the Kings would be a question mark with the new direction the Kings are heading he might jeopordize the concept the Petrie is trying to attain. Personally I think Chris Webber good days are gone and why bring him back(unless he wants to coach).

Not to mention that there are many other teams out there that would be willing (and able) to pay him significantly more than we could afford...

Like a Christie situation, there would be some swallowing of pride and admittance of making a mistake from the organization. I don't think that will ever happen.

It's also IMO, best for Webber and Christie- if this situation was to arise- to not even look to Sacramento; those days are long gone. The same applies for us.

Under the new CBA Philly would still pay Webber's salary and I think that whatever team picks him up would only have to pay him the MLE if they have it available.

I'm still waiting for Webb to have that one monster season where is isn't injured. It hasn't happened yet and probably won't, so I agree with the rest.

Same here - it isn't like Corliss where he left early and came back still able to play well - he's down to his last year or so and has bad knees. He wouldn't sit like we'd want him to....

IF he is released, he can come back...as an assistant coach or public relations guy or something. Sorry Webb, too late for the playing, we've moved on.

He would add nothing to the team now. So why consider it? Let it, and him, go.

If he is released. (he wont)
If he wants to come. (he wont)
If he is cheap. (he wont)
Why the heck not? With him we go deep in the playoffs, without him we have been one and done...and worse.

I'd love to have him at the MLE and Doug at the minimum. Yeah the ship has sailed, but they'd be good for 55 games and entertaining. We'd also have way more depth because of the Webber trade.

If this happened we'd need to ship Peja out. I'd have no problem with that.

Philly would NEVER waive Webber. They'd be paying MILLIONS AND MILLIONS AND MILLIONS of dollars for nothing.

If horses suddenly grow wings and fly, will they replace automobiles?

Discuss...

Philadelphia WANTED Webber. They didn't have to make the deal; they did so fully aware of what they were getting.

But IF they did waive him, he would not return to Sacramento. The ship has sailed, both on the part of the Maloofs and Webber. Neither would want to revisit the past.

The only reason someone would even post this question IMHO is to see if they can get people to bash Webber one more time.

I still think getting rid of him was a bad idea, but now that he's gone, bringing him back won't help anything. And I assume that if the 76ers released him it would be because they would save money on luxury tax (if they are over the luxury tax threshold). That might be a reason if they didn't want him any more, but I seriously doubt that would happen.

Bring him back POSTHASTE!! For the MLE there is no compelling reason not to. Sure he would take minutes and a starting role, but what young stud do the Kings have at power forward? Assuming we are keeping the Princeton O(which sans Webber I would prefer to junk) he is still extremely effective. He's both a vocal leader and lightning rod, something we do not currently possess. I don't see it as admitting a mistake, it's having your cake and eating it too. Payton was traded, waived, and returned to the Celtics during the season. It's the perfect scenario.

Wise comment you've made yes.
Not likely Webber is a Kings hmmmm.

this is stupid. webber and christie were traded for reasons, and bringing them back would only make things worse, creating a logjam of mediocre, past prime talent making a team that can never contend for anything.

I had never hidden how much I liked Webber being part of the Kings. But it's OVER. People need to let go and move on...

Bringing him back would NOT solve any problems IMHO and it would, in fact, lead to some new major ones. The Maloofs have stated repeatedly and very publicly that they're looking to rebuild the team around the core of Peja, Brad and Bibby. That's what they should do.

Some of you may think Webber isn't worth more than the MLE but that's simply not the case. He is still capable of putting up 20/10/5 and that's worth a lot more to some teams, even if they couldn't have afforded his contract for the next couple of years.

Put away the plates and the forks. You aren't going to get a piece of the cake.

You think that on the current King's team Chris Webber is at best a backup?

Who would force him to the bench?
Skinner? Thomas? Corlis? Darius?

I could understand arguing that bringing him back would be a step in the wrong direction, and would retard any movement toward the future...etc...

but to say that he is so noticeably worse than the PFs we have now to automatically relegate him to the bench... huh?

they wanted him so much that they were willing to trade three anvils of contracts and week old bag of opened potato chips.

But overall I aree with your sentiment. He ain't coming back.
