if we got second pick?

Entity

Hall of Famer
Lets say we get second pick and Oden was #1. Do we then take the big man we need like Horford, Wright, Hibbert, etc.... OR do we take Durant and try for a trade to get what we need + some or - one of our big contracts. Or do we keep Durant and seek other means for Artest later in the offseason. Anyway getting the #1 pick with Oden would be great but, getting Durant would open up alot of doors for us.

Durant! We need a big man but you can't sacrifice a superstar (potentially) for that. Durant will probably end up being the best player in this draft (Oden will go first because he's a center, and they're much harder to come by).

There is no question who the #1 and #2 picks are this time out. Really just none. #3 onward we can start to have these conversations. But Durant's an absolute surefire star. Likely a major one. Nobody will be passing him up for anybody not named Oden, and maybe not even for him.

I would take Durant and then see what teams would offer me, if i didnt get what i wanted(maybe a Garnett, somebody big with talent, maybe not as old)then i would just play him and let him shine, so within the next season or so i could get what i want.

Ditto that.

Come on Brick I was expecting more depth from you. I was thinking we could then offer up Artest to Minn for their 1st rd pick since the SF is what they are after and the draft isn't going to produce any better than Artest outside of Durant besides if you wait for a rookie to develope then KG is gone.

Bibby
Martin
Durant
Horford
Miller

SAR, KT, Garcia, Salmons, Price, Williams on the bench.

so given that the first 2 picks are a GIVEN, but their ordering (who is #1 vs who is #2) is not, and it is a tough choice between the top 2 ... would you rather pick first or second...?

if you pick first you have to CHOOSE and may be slapping your head for the next 15 years going D'OH! about whomever you DON'T pick...

but if you pick second you STILL get selection 1-b, but you can assume a very zen attitude about the whole thing.

:) I'm guessing that GM's everywhere are wishing for spot #2 ! :)

What he said. Most of the time you want a guy who fits what you have. When you have a lackluster team and get a superstar, you don't care what you have, you make whatever changes are needed to build around the guy.

Man, that is a crisis I'd love to see us in. It's torment to even think about it.

#1 is Oden.. No matter what (unless he doesn't come out). I can't see a team out there that would take Durant over Oden (teams in the lottery).... Not saying Durant is any less of a player, but Big athletic Centers like Oden come once every 10 years. This type of player can turn a franchise around in a year.

Take Durrant and build the franchise around him, Kmart, Cisco and Quincy. Keep core players around them with leadership skills and hope like hell that they are up and down the court quicker than most teams.

And you'd be wasting most of his skills.

Take Durant.

How are you wasting his rebounding and shotblocking by puting him at PF. Not to mention no PF is going to want to come out and guard him at the 3 point line so he might get open looks all day. And when they do come out and guard him that far out then he can blow by them because he's pretty athletic. He's listed at 220 IIRC, I don't see why he can't put on another 20 pounds of muscle and get to 240.

I actually think Durant would be a PERFECT fit for the Kings if we got #2. Ron/Durant forward tandem would be SICK. Ron has the power/strength and Durant would have the fluidity, length, height. The two are versatile and therefore we could match-up according to other team. Imagine a Boozer trying to guard Durant or Artest...now imagine a Harrington trying to guard either. We'd be a match-up nightmare for nearly every team in the league, but we'd also match-up very well with other teams.

His ceiling is pretty extraordinary. He can be a quicker more explosive Dirk and that's only on offense, defensively he could be KG. Although that's just BCS talk, doesn't mean he'll reach that. He's got the tools though. He needs to bulk up, learn to create for himself better, and commit to being a defensive player too.

Spot on. Except I would pass him up for Oden :D.

In this scenario, it would be a no brainer.

You take Durant. And start celebrating.
To quote one of the Australian Football League recruiting officers "It would be pants down and lap around the table time".

Heck, I would be stoked with a top 5 pick. If we are lucky to get top 2, I think I might have a heart atack.

Or imagine either trying to guard Dwight Howard or Chris Bosh.

If we got Durant, I'd look into swapping Ron for a big man.

Bosh isn't huge. I see no reason why Durant would have a problem with Bosh. Only guys I see him having trouble with are Duncan and Dwight.
