if the kings sneak into the lottery this year

i know this is premature but

if the kings sneak into the lotttery this year.. is it time to shake up the line up?

one does, if they are depending one a single game that decides their lottery fate. lets pray it doesn't come to that :)
how did the spurs even get the 1st pick to land duncan that year? my god... the luck.

I'm not sure if this is the correct year... But I think that David Robinson was injured all of that year so they pretty much sucked and got into the lottery.

They were decimated with injuries that year. Then they drafted Duncan and everyone got healthy. What luck.

"Sneaking" into the lottery. I was thinking it was more like "sinking into the morass of mediocrity." ;)

Its very premature... we havent even seen this lineup play a full season. Our starting five is one of the best when healthy. Our bench needs help and they may be the ones who drag us into the lottery.

If the Kings DON'T end up int he lottery it is STILL time to shake this lineup up.

It was a dumb idea from the start. Think they have a good shot to make the playoffs. But they won't go anywhere even if they do, and they're not a young bunch which is going to get better and better. So shake away at your leisure Geoff! Or if you can't bring yourself to do it, get the hell out of the way and let me take a shot at it! :p

Indeed.

I think the bench can definitely use help, but it is still developing and guys are still fitting.

I agree with Brick. I don't like this current roster at all and wouldn't mind a shakeup.

I think we are as bad as we look and we may just get in the playoffs but only because a few teams are worse then us. I see us as a .500 team if were are lucky and I lean more towards us being worse then that.

If we want to develop our future then I think we need to get rid of some main pieces and really do it. I see no reason going through the season as a mediocre team only to miss the lottery. I think its time the team really goes into full rebuilding mode (Hindsight sucks and we should of kept Webber). But since the team is already blown apart from the good ole days It feels like we are stuck in the middle and I feel that is going to hurt us more in the long run. I would rather see a few bad years of rebuilding to get back on top rather then just being good enough to get in.

If we rebuild we should see some great flashes of what the team can be. Right now I don’t feel any hope this team as constructed can do any real damage.

With that said I am not an NBA exec just a fan. I like to hear myself talk and ….

I would love to see that. Can I help make the phone calls?

;)

I don't know about dumping everything we've got in an attempt to go young. If this team ends up below the expectations of the Maloofs and Petrie you better believe there will be some shakeups. I actually like the move Geoff Petrie made this season. We have a lot of talented players in our starting lineup that have value in this league. We at least have the option of packaging a few things together to bring in the talent we need without completely leaving us as a skeleton of a basketball team.

Signing Shareef for so cheap was great, not just because we can easily trade him, but we can use his small deal to bring in some highly paid stars to surround him with.

Indeed and agreed. :)

Yeah..the "luck". ;) It's called tanking your season knowing that Duncan was waiting...

and what would have happened if they didnt get the pick? who would have thought that the bucks would get the first pick?

I think they will be in "no-mans-land" this year. Probably 9th or if lucky they will sneak in at 8th into the playoffs and get a lousy pick (late teens). Forget it dude.

Uh... shakeup time was a few months ago.

uh.... what are you talking about? we stocked up w/ some good healthy bargaining chips this past summer. we moved aged injured back up point guard bobby jackson for a healthy but troubled past bonzi wells that looks to be turning it around. if bonzi keeps this up, we'll have some leverage when time to trade.
GGG we got some value dude. this summer looks to be good with peja's expiring contract. is bonzi a FA this summer also? S&T time geoff! bring us some young studs baby. if we moved some of the core we still got enough players to help transition the youth IF we decide to go that route. we have the option of packaging some of the core + role players for a KG type player also and still have enough good players to make a awesome team.

this summer is going to be real interesting if we end up in the lottery which i'm hoping we do. i don't see any point in getting in the playoffs only to be knocked out the first round.

i'd rather have a higher pick than a late 1st round pick. some good players are still around in the middle of the draft. utah's AK47 was a late pick... so is tony parker.

Condescending tone aside, bargaining chips are only bargaining chips if you do any bargaining. You only mention the Bobby Jackson trade to support your argument. I liked that trade when it happened, and I love it now. Bonzi's gold, as far as I'm concerned. However, you managed to skip right over the trade that brought the first three of the supposed bargaining chips -- you know, the one guy who's underproducing and the other two who aren't even playing -- that are still on the roster and still have horrible contracts.

Right. And, as I recall, so was Sean Elliot and possibly Avery Johnson. Really, they should have been kicked out of the Lottery. It totally ruined the point. That still irks me.

have you heard of salary fillers in trades? PEJA + CORLISS salaries can equal a paul pierce type salary. you must think petrie is a fool. i'm glad he got rid of webb b4 his wheels fell off. how can you have 15-20 mill sit on the bench NOT producing AND when he did come back he was a huge defensive liability.

GGG, if you knew anything about bargaining it is EASIER to package a deal when the contracts are smaller.

Yeah, because he's doing so badly in Philadelphia right now.

(You don't need to adopt a condescending tone around here...)

As far as your comment goes, it is THEORETICALLY easier to package a deal when the contracts are smaller, but unless they're actually moved, it doesn't mean a thing.

The 98 Spurs team tanked purposely, they wanted there man "Tim Duncan" and they got it but it was a premature thing to do IMO; teams should try there best no matter what.

On the other hand, sucky teams sneak their way into the playoffs all the time. Having half the teams make the playoffs seems like too much for me.
