If the Kings end up with John Wall..

Does turner's back injury make anybody concerned? I asked this in an earlier post, but noone gave input. I don't know if it is too big if a deal to you guys, but I know it is at te back of my own mind, thoughts?

Well I'm not a back expert, and I'm sure that any team that drafts Turner will have plenty of experts check him out. But most back problems that become chronic are usually related to degenerative disks. Turner's problem is related to a very hard fall he took and landed on his back which caused two hairline cracks in his spine. From everything that I've read there should be no future problems that would be related to the injury. But as I said, I'm hardly a back expert, and I'm sure we'll hear more about it as the draft nears.

Speaking as a 26 year old that injured his back ONCE, recuperated to good shape, then aggravated it with eight straight years of lifting nearly 1000 tires a day by hand (except on weekends), I can firmly say that Turner will be fine early in his career, but he will degenerate as he gets older ala Tracy McGrady.

Hell, he may have the same career arc as McGrady. Everything will be fine for about eight years, then he becomes scapegoat material.

I hope not, but I have a very strong gut feeling. Back problems NEVER go away.

Sure, but that I assume was disks?

Turner basically had a broken bone. Assmuming a broken bone heals properly there is really no reason for it to bother you in the long term. Wasn't even a stress fracture, but rather a sudden acute break. MIght want to try to avoid anymore reverse bellyflops on the hardwood though.

Correct, disks.

The impression I was given by my doctor was that the spine is used in every activity we ever do, so there is no real way to ensure that it heals properly, thus giving no way to prove that a person does or does not have a back problem in court, etc... Many people who suffer serious back injuries must live with the ramifications forever.

I imagine that if it is a simple bone break, and it is lower (in the area of the coccyx), that there is not really a reason to be overly concerned.
