If Ron Artest walks...

Sorry if this was posted somewhere else...but if Ron Artest walks, will we have money to spend on a FA, or will we just be under the cap?i am very confused about that and want it straightened out. Thanks alot.

If Ron Walks we will be about 51mil in guaranteed salaries (including Thompson) give or take a million. This money will probably be used to get us a PG whether it be Beno or whoever.

If artest walks we most likely look like this

1. TBD/Singletary
2. Martin/Garcia
3.Salmons/Ewing
4.Moore/Thompson/Williams/SAR/KT LOL LOL
5.Miller/Hawes

In which case Miller should be moved for picks and a expiring young players contract.

If he walks I would hope not to sign any other player besides Beno for a 2 year +1 team option year deal.

If we are going to stink might as well stink it up.

RonRon isn't walking but what if the Kings do trade him? Do they trade BIG or go for a starting PG? I like Beno and think, if he can increase his assists to 6-8 per game can be major piece of playoff runs with his couple of years in San Antonio. But for RonRon, we need the defensive presence and the stopper. Salmons did a good job in both of those. I kinda like the idea of John starting for RonRon and getting major help at the 1 and 4 and assume in year or so that Jason can backup Spencer at the 5. hmmmmmmm.......:p

Jason back up Spencer at the 5? Isn't the idea to play Jason at the 4 next to Spencer at the 5?

Its been so long since we've seen a full sized PF aroudn here that anybody taller than 6'10" or weighing more than 240 is instantly a center. ;)

But yeah, I think the hope, the real hope for this franchise, is a long term big frontline PF/C tandem of Hawes/Thompson together out there. Thompson is not Hawes's backup. He's the starting PF. We hope.

I can see Thompson filling in at the center position when perhaps Hawes gets into foul trouble, but I think the team see's him as thier future power forward. Speaking of foul trouble. Even if we trade Miller, I can see Moore hanging around for at least one more year. Both Hawes and Thompson are young, and with the ref's penchant for calling fouls on young players, we'll need some backup in that dept.

Speaking of trading Miller. I don't think there's a better time to do it. He had a good year last year, and there's no guarantee he'll have another one. There are plenty of teams that would love to have him. Miami being one. The question is, what do we want for him? Finding a suiter that has what we want may be the hard part.

I think that would actually be fine -- maybe ideal. Moore hangs around, for at least half a year, as the vet mentor. Brad is moved for younger pieces/enders/picks. Spencer and hopefully Thompson get the start. Mikki backs up both off the bench as the vet, and Sheldon fills in as he can.

I still think that Ron does not opt out but is not here at start of camp, if you know what I mean. I also agree that it may be a good time for Miller to be moved. We have some young guys that need time now.

A few teams out there that could use Brad Miller. It could be an intersting summer.

But Brads unique and positive qualities are running a high post, passing and a wide shooting range out to the 3, which is rather unique among centers in the league. Defensively he is big liability but guess his offense has offset that (not to me tho').

You trade him now, on the surface not a bad idea, then instantly the Kings are not a high post offense (not good or bad but difficult for a young crew and a new center). And with 4 or 5 rookies/first year guys libel to be on the Kings this year, how can they get to 45 wins and playoffs this year? I agree that Brads' trade value is max right now but is Spencer ready to step in as a starter yet? then who bill back up him? Mikki? Jason Thompson? asking a bit much I think.

Back to "if RonRon walks". Reiterating, RonRon is not walking. His biggest value, to him at least, is sitcking then hoping for a big follow-on from the Kings or a trade to someone who has the ability to sign him to the fat extension he deserves.

I think maybe RonRon has the best trade value to the Kings between now and a few months into the season as we have Salmons to step into his spot without missing a beat. Then we get couple of months to see just where is Spencer is and can he be the starter at the 5? But to look at losing both RonRon and Brad and the newbies they would bring............WOW!! that would be a biggie. Further can Reggie and his band of rookie coaches deal with that as well??

On the other hand, maybe Coach has run and gun ideas best served with a new, mobile center and a roster full of good defenders who can run-run-run. Gonna be fun folks.

Frankly, with the cast we have, I'd rather be in the lottery one more year. We still need pieces (PG, especially if Beno is gone) and another good lottery player would help. We need to free up some cap room, get some good young players, and be ready to rock and roll in a year or two. Additional picks from a Ron trade and a Brad trade would help as well. Kinda like the Blazers have done it, except much slower, apparently. :(

Considering the major injuries to start the season and RonRon suspension, the Kings were out 2 or 3 starters for at least 25 games to start the season. Then the Bibby trade for no starters and still winning 35 games. Ten more wins is not unreasonable IF they have Beno, Salmons replacing RonRon at the 3, Kevin at the 2, Brad in the middle and XXXXX at the 4. Right now its Mikki but who knows how good Spencer and Jason will be. Spencer could give us reason to trade Brad by years end but scoring PF is needed along with some BIGS rebounding and stopping layup drills......during games.

I think Salmons at the 3 is a smooth and immediate transition if RonRon is traded. Then it's the 4 and 5 spots that determine if Kings can win 45 or not. It may take Jason a full year to get confident at the 4 in which case the 4 spot becomes the premier need and backup PG is next. Now my head is spinning and I see those flashing lights again......... *&@#**%, gads a hangover feels better than this.....

Cruz i am looking foward to your Vegas reports this summer. hurry up and post the tv schedule, roster, and site for the live game feeds. LOL

That's alot of Ifs. Dont forget team that are from the outside looking in like Warriors and Portland are also in the hunt this year.

Beno can't increase his assists to 6-8 per game. His game isn't wired that way. Quite frankly, I think what you see now is what you get, and that's solid enough as a stopgap option.

Hmmm... the Star-Telegram is reporting that Artest opted out on Friday. I'm not saying it's true, just passing this along.

There a number of players who could interest the Mavs, including possibly Kings forward Ron Artest, who opted out of his contract Friday and would have to agree to a significant pay cut.
Mavs coach Rick Carlisle coached Artest at Indiana and has said he’d welcome him in Dallas.

He may just be overreacting to Artest's comments/Vescey's report. It's not in Artest's character to not wait until the last second to make his decision on something like this. He'll make some big drama out of it, because he's a big drama queen attention whore.

Yeah, I agree. Guess it was a bit of wishful thinking. But with his driving ability it opens up Kevin and the 3-4 for open jumpers or closer in shots.

Can't wait to see that summer league squad............ :D
