I want Donte to be our future SG

DeMoN

Bench
We don't need a ball handler back there with Tyreke, nor a Scorer, we need Donte as our future SG. Trade Kevin for anything.

God I'm starting to get a mancrush on Donte...

No sergio... Beno is a far better player to compliment T with. Sergio is useless with tyreke next to him... Since he should not have the ball in his hands and he cant shoot nor defend.

I'd rather have Beno come off the bench, he can prove to be a super sub.

I think that our slump has effected him, and him put into the starting role has once again messed with his head.

I really like Donte but i see Casspi as our future SF, and i think Donte compliments Tyreke and him perfectly at the off gaurd, and has terrific defense.

I have seen enough of Kevin Martin. Yes I know it sounds dumb, but Tyreke is the man now and you saw what he did tonight when the team just gave him the ball and got out of his way. I'm all up for a trade. This is Reke's team.

Yeah, Beno is a better compliment to Evans. He can shoot and be the off ball threat while Evans handles the ball more and makes plays. Much like Goodrich and Jerry West.

I like Donte as SF myself....

Noc and Kev need to go to free up space. Especially with Cisco coming back.

Donte showed some passing and ball handling skills out there, but the ball handling really isn't his strength. We DO need a ball handler out there with Tyreke. Part of the problem is a lack of a secondary handler and distributor.

Maybe Tyreke and a healthy and effective Cisco, with Donte at the 3 works. Donte was starting with Tyreke if you recall, but the defensive effectiveness was offset by the lack of ball handling and smooth offense. If you can start Donte at the 3, then you don't have to worry about your backcourt having a tendecy to get picked.

I am not as against starting Donte at the 2 as some here. I love the way he matches up with opposing sg's on defense, and thats more important than the offensive end. He can get his shot off against most sg's and sf's in one on one situations. He'll get better in the post and be able to take advantage of that along with his height.

Donte isn't the ideal sg, but it could work. It could be a nightmare matchup on the defensive end for opponents. The more important question IMO is will it be Omri or Donte at the 2 going forward? Both should be here for a while, I hope, and both should be fulltime startes in a season or 2. One of them will have to learn to play the 2 going forward, because both are too talented to be kept out of the starting lineup in the future.

Or maybe, one of the two is the starter while the other becomes our Manu/B-Jax 6th man winning super sub?

I watched about 75% of the game tonight and can whole heartedly disagree...

It seemed like Sergio diced up San Antonio's defense whenever he wanted. Penetrating and kicking out. I love that. I'm a big fan of Beno and think he has been killin it this year for us, but to say Sergio is useless is a bit of an overstatement. They both can learn a bit from each other IMO.

I think Sergio will be the perfect backup PG for this team.
A Sergio/Martin pairing off the bench would be great. And then Garcia would complement Evans nicely as well.Garcia can handle the ball if necessary, but he doesn't need it, and can function in a defense/spot shooter role.

I still think Martin should play 35 min+, but that would maximize this team's scoring and he would still share the court with Reke for 20 min a game.

I initially scoffed at the suggestion that Garica (or anyone) should start over Martin, and I still believe Martin and Evans can play well together. But that rotation makes a lot of sense.

And Beno will be nice trade bait.

The OPs point was playing tyreke and sergio together. Sergio alone is not useless, but as you said he penetrates and kicks it out. Tyreke isn't a good shooter, kicking it out to him would be of no use. Same the other way around, Sergio isn't a good deep shooter, tyreke driving and kicking to him wouldn't be good either. Beno on the other hand is a better shooter and so can benefit more from Tyreke's driving ability.

Thanks. That's exactly as I view it from a long ago.

IMO Donte is best used at the 3. You'll have an athletic 6' 11" 3. He'll be a mismatch for most 3's. He just needs to get a more consistent jump shot.

i like donte at starting PF, stretching the flooring. i know it sounds like im giving up on jason, but maybe its Jason and Spencer that cant play together not Kevin and Tyreke.

our offense look good for the most part last night with donte at the 4, and beno was out.

i feel most of the recent games we played well/competative for about 3-3.5 quarters. usually its a 3rd quarter meltdown but last nite it was the first half of the 4th where shots werent dropping and spurs went on a run. it's not like we're always getting blown out. im still one of the believers that evans/martin can work.

ooooh, i got it.
One two many drinks last night. ;)

and.. btw...

I have never been a huge Kevin Martin apostle. but it is amazing to me to see how fast the vultures start circling... the dude is coming off an injury AND into some pretty damn unfamiliar territory-- there is a new much bigger dog in town, and i'm fairly sure Martin had grown accustomed to being the only fish of any real size in a damn small pond these last few years in Sac.

Sac fans moved from being truly awesome (rooting HARD for really chum-change teams in the mid-90s, and then rooting even HARDER for really exciting teams in the early oughts) to truly mediocre (systematically ripping apart whomever the team happens to be able to put out there as their best player... in order, and one at a time... Webber-Peja-Artest- and now Martin...?

Sacramento fans booing Kevin Martin is downright idiotic. Period. He has been THE face of the Kings, and the team's only bright spot for years...

Is he tradable right now? he is CERTAINLY not untouchable, and if he isn't traded the Kings coaches are going to have to do a better job integrating his talents into the threads of the king's new realities (with him NOT as lead dog) but BOOING him...? (or otherwise tossing him under the bus...?) ------ c'mon now

I don't think God would want his name connected to your man crush...:D

Or like Walt Frazier and Pearl Monroe. Bill Sharman and Bob Cousy. Opp's, I think I'm dating myself again..

Look! I'm a big fan of Martins, and personally I wouldn't have booed him if I were at the arena. But they payed their money so they have the right to display their displeasure with any player they wish. And, as I pointed out, they paid money to go to the game. which is more than a lot of fans that sit and ***** about the team do.

To me, I think the displeasure with Martin has more to do with his body language than the results. He just looks like a whipped dog out there at times. And frankly I don't understand it. He's getting his touches and his shots. But except for one or two games, there's no outside passion being expressed. I don't know. Maybe there's something going on that we don't know about.

As far as Martin being the face of the franchise, well, if so, it was by default. By that, I mean there simply wasn't anyone left. Martin has never stood up in a crowd and then stood out. He's never been one to demand the ball. This isn't a knock on him, its just who he is. When Artest was here, who stood out more? Martin or Artest. Rightly or wrongly, it was Artest. When he was on the floor with Salmons who demanded the ball more, Martin or Salmons? Rightly or wrongly it was John Salmons.

Personally I don't think Martin likes the spotlight to be on him. Perhaps the weight is just a little too much for his shoulders. But he's the perfect number two or three guy. The guy the other team isn't paying as much attention to till he jumps up and bites you in the butt. Martin says he lobbied for drafting Tyreke. So I can't believe that there's a problem between the two of them. It appears that Tyreke is making an effort to create space for Martin and then get him the ball. But something appears to be wrong. I don't have a clue what it is, but they need to fix it, and fix it quickly.
