I can't think of a cooler head to run our team. He said it was going to take til 2010 to really turn things around.
I think the Gasol trade for peanuts really screwed up the trading climate. Trading Ron or not trading Ron doesn't make a lick of difference this season. There is way to much speculation that the Kings will lose him for nothing. Who is going to sign him for $10 mil per year this off-season?

Exactly my thoughts. I'm a little disappointed, sure, but I don't hate him. Maybe the fact is that the deals being reported weren't offered. At this point, who knows? I'm sure Geoff has the Kings best interests at heart.

The larger issue would be that we should never have been in this position in the first place. The larger issue remains vision and proactiveness, not "gee I'm kinda slow but maybe this isn't working out" save attempts in midseason. By all accounts Geoff was trying to dig out of the hole he created for us, and just failed. Again. But the key point is that it was his hole, and we should never have been in it in the first place. If you want to hate Geoff, its a larger issue than simply once again failing to unload some of the most undesirable players in the NBA in the middle of the season. Where the hell was he this summer? The summer before that?
Now, when this offseason rolls around and Geoff drops a big $$ long term deal on Ron "The Albatross" Artest, then I expect to see people taking bids on who gets to pelt Geoff with rotten fruit, who's got the eggs, and who's slashing his tires.

The Bibby trade was okay, much better and more sensical if there were further trades before the deadline. I'd have no problem if they kept Bibby though, Bibby we could wait on; however Artest should have been traded and should have been our top priority. The worst thing that can happen regarding Artest is that we re-sign him, the second worst thing is he doesn't opt out, and the third worst thing is he leaves for nothing. Now the best case scenario is that he leaves for nothing, something tells me even that won't happen. @#%#!$%!#@@#$@#Q$@!!!!!!!!!

If you're going to blame someone, blame Denver for not having the balls to pair two Defensive monsters in exchange for pennies. You telling me it's okay to overpay Keyon Martin and Nene but when it comes to bringing in Ron Artest for two bench guys and a low pick it's not okay? This explains a lot why Denver is always underperforming.
If we want a low 1st round pick that badly, I'm sure there are ways to get one this summer without involving Artest.

Besides which of course it takes until 2010 to turn the thing around because the man himself screwed us over until 2010. He didn't inherit this issue, he created it. And the sad fact is that it takes him to 2010 to turn it around because having messed up, he doesn't have a clue or a vision how to get out of it other than just sitting on his hands until all the bad contracts he handed out or absorbed finally run out. That is of course assuming he can contain himself rather than dropping even more $$ on let's say one slightly unhinged SF who will be a free agent this summer.

Geoff must of been thinking about his EGO as a GM more then the Kings future... I like Ron but now Reggie is going to play him 40 minutes a game and the young guns get jipped for playing time when ron prolly wont even be on this frickan team next year.. If they are going to resign him Geoff better frickan do it right now..
Who prefers the Sonics
From what I am hearing on this board, it seems like a lot of people would prefer the Sonics situation (all blown up) to the Kings situation. After having watched a couple of Sonics games, I can say without a doubt that I prefer watching the Kings.
Also, Petrie haters act like he doesn't have a boss(es). Supposedly the Maloofs nixed a Bibby for Bynum trade last year. Who knows if that is true, but there are some valid reasons why Petrie could not have blown up the Kings. Say, like a failled attempt to win voter support for a new stadium.
I think Marty Macs column put it well today. The Kings just have not been lucky lately. If they do get lucky, Petrie is a GM that can take advantage of it.

As of now, the Sonics are in much better shape to be competing in 5/6 years than us. You may prefer watching us now, but in 5 years, if the teams stayed the same, I'd guarantee the Sonics would be a far more dangerous team than us. They have their superstar - Durant. We don't. They have a better pick this year. They have more picks. They have more young talent. They have more future cap space. Everything about them so far suggests they're doing a very good job rebuilding, even if they're not very good at the minute.

At first I was mad at Geoff, but know I'm not.
The deal was horrible. Najera/Jr/1st for Artest is nothing. Even with Kleiza it wasen't that good. Artest is a top 5 player at his position. He shuts down the other teams best player, and he can play the 2,3 and 4.
We can get a better deal for him. A 15-20 pick won't get us a superstar player that we are missing.

This was the last straw for me with Petrie. We were SO CLOSE to actually setting ourselves up to climb out of the hole he put us in with all of the mediocre "treading water" deals. Artest should have been traded, and now we are either going to see him walk or get lesser value than we could have gotten at the deadline.

I am with you. I would be mad if I were a Nugget's fan, but I am not - so who cares.
I will also say that I would not be terribly upset if Ron signed with the Kings this summer. He is a risk...but who isn't? I've watched him just abuse people in the paint lately and play great D on the other end. I do not think that he wil be here next year, but if he signs for a reasonably low price I think he could be considered a steal.

Maybe nobody offered "some picks" nor any useable bodies remotely equivalent. I think GP was smart and wise this round as we never want a trade for trade sake.
I'm happy. Let RonRon play the last 29 games like the last 3 and we will scare the bejezzus outa the west!!! Playoffs? Not likely but a winning record definitely. Considering, that would make me happy this year.

Who are these "young guns" you mention??? Artest is 28, Salmons is 28 and Garcia is 26.
Garcia gets about 27 mninutes a game and John gets about 32 with Ron at 38. Are you telling me you want Douby to play 30 minutes a game

We've definitely shown some moxie in beating some of the better teams this year, but we're still straddling the line of mediocrity (relative to the rest of the West) that for the past couple of years we've been trying to get away from.

Who said it was Geoff that was waiting too long to make a move(to wards rebuilding)? It could be the Maloofs that had a final say on rebuilding. I do believe the in action vision was due to the Maloofs not wanting to rebuild until now. They pretty much shackled Petrie in this current situation.
I agree with Cruz Dude. You can post all you want about the Maloofs and Petrie, but you DO NOT know what goes on in their offices so basically you do not have any facts to base SOME of your comments on. I also agree with Brick on most of what he said because it is based on what actually did and did not happen to get us to this point. I wanted Ron traded too, but it did not happen and life and basketball will go on and frankly, it is going to be interesting. Annie.

Pure speculation. Geoff is a big boy, if his plans were being thwarted by management he could have left. His job title dictates that he, and he alone, is responsible for the roster.
