I Can Not DVR/TIVO the Kings Game

#1
OK, I thought maybe something was wrong with my DVR when I tried to DVR the Kings vs Philadelphia on Tuesday on Comcast Channel 656 on Direct TV and it would not allow me to do so.

But I tried to do it again on tonight and it will not record. Does anybody else have this problem?

I dont have a problem recording it when I catch the game live, or specifically set it to record by searching through the guide.

My problem is my "wishlist" entry for "all basketball games having 'Kings' in the title" doesn't work anymore. It worked ALL last season. :(

What cable box do you have? A DCT6412 III?

edit: Oh you have DirecTV. I didn't catch that, sorry.

Does anyone else notice that the clippers are always blocked from League Pass? That pisses me off that I payed all that money and then there are 4 kings games I can't watch.

I think it is since I'm in Southern California. I don't know if they do it around the rest of the country, but a lot of times here, if a team isn't selling out their games, they won't televise them so that people have to buy tickets to go. They did that with the Chargers here a few years ago when they were terrible. Pretty lame.

I have Directv and have had no problems recording games. However, I can't record pregame or post game shows or game replays. Never had that problem at all last year.......

While I do not subscribe to DirecTV (I abhor satellite), I have some experience in this:

When I was stationed in Hawaii, we got our network television feeds from Los Angeles. This, in turn, meant that we got FSN West (Lakers) and FSN West-2 (Clippers). When I subscribed to League Pass, I noticed that whenever Clippers and Lakers games came on, that they were blacked out on League Pass, but continued to play just fine on their respective FSN channels.

When I got transferred to Bremerton, the closest team was the Supersonics on FSN Northwest, and the same thing happened; Sonics games were "blacked" out on League Pass, but shown on FSN... After I got back home to Virginia, I noticed the same thing applied for Wizards games on CSN.

So, if your "local" team is blacked out on League Pass, you might want to check your TV listings to find out what local channel the game is on. I can't answer for football, though, as I don't watch it.

Works for me.

Slim has pretty much explained the League Pass blackout situation but I will add that there is NO provision in the NBA to black out games that haven't sold out. That does happen in the NFL but not in the NBA.

Did they show footage of when Chris used to play for the Kings? If so, did anyone record it?

EDIT: If you want to respond to Ryan's question, please do so via PM. Thanks.

I have no problems recording the Kings games either on Comcast (656) or Channel 10 on Direct TV. I have a wishlist and it automatically picks up every Kings game, regardless of which channel it's on. On another Tivo where I don't have the wishlist set up, I can manually record with no problems.

As VF21 said: it may be time to call DirecTV tech support...

Insyder: you may want to check to make sure that your wishlist is set to record programs automatically. If it is, you may want to remove the wishlist and recreate it. There was a software update a while ago that I think caused some problems with wishlists, so you may be experiencing this.

Offtopic, but of interest to kings fans with DirecTV: is everyone aware that it is fairly easy to increase storage capacity in your Tivos? It is also legal and does not create any issues with Tivo or DirecTV. My largest Tivo stores over 500 hours... plenty of room for LOTS of Kings games!!

Well, all I know is that I've missed the Kings clippers games this year because the clippers are blacked out. I don't have direct TV either, and since I don't live in the Sacramento area, I don't get comcast, which is the reason I got League pass in the first place. Oh well.

It is, however, possible that the rights to a game have been sold to either the local or national market and League Pass is therefore blacked out, but the broadcaster with the rights decides to no air the game (for whatever reason). When that happens, you're out of luck. It doesn't happen here anymore, but when FSN and Channel 31 used to get the rights to the games sometimes they would do this. Maybe that's what happening in SoCal?

Wonder if situation of not being able to record "live" has anything to do with the new agreements NBA is making with Google and possibly Apple/iPod to sell games the next day as a download off the internet?

I still strongly suggest calling tech support. Is this a guy thing? Like not wanting to ask for directions when you're lost?

Not wanting to ask for directions is not just a guy thing.

I've gotten so good at stubbornly getting myself un-lost that my passengers rarely notice that I didn't mean to take that shortcut.
