How About Calderon?

which is even more frustrating. but even before this ownership situation he wasnt doing crap

Very true, but I suspect that also had a lot to do with the Maloofs, who have the final say. I've heard rumors that come from within the orginization, that Petrie was working on some things that might happen before the trade deadline, but when the Maloofs made the deal with Hansen and Seattle, everything was shelved. Which makes sense.

now they are saying just Prince and Daye, no draft pic.

but what the hell is Memphis doing? they have a good team, playing well, and they are blowing it up

Gay isnt that great. He's the Marcus Thornton of SFs. Gives you inefficient scoring, and not much else. They were better last season without him, but I think part of that was also having Mayo off the bench as a scoring punch.

This was a great trade for the Grizz. Davis is better than Spreights and Haddaddi, Daye is a good prospect (6'11 and can play guard), and Prince brings a good veteran presence and talent. I doubt Calderon signs with Detroit after the season, but Drummond & Monroe will be beasts for the duration with him feeding them.

Kings could have easily matched the Daye and Prince offer. :(

Memphis is over the luxury tax, and next year the penality increases even more. The owner wants to get under the luxury tax. That means he has to sacrifice one of the high paid players on the team, and basicly take back little in return. There's a deadline, for the year that locks in your salary, regardless of what happens after that. I don't remember that date, but obviously Memphis is trying to cut payroll, and I guess they think losing Gay will hurt them less than losing Randolph or Gasol. And they're probably right.

Calderon and Gay have something in common. Big money contracts. The Maloofs were never going to add a big money contract, so no deal.

Name a player on the Kings as good as Tayshaun Prince? I see only two, Cousins and Evans. I could also argue that Ed Davis would start if he were on the Kings.

The word in the media is that the Grizz are making decisions based on Analytics. You know Billy Beane style. You get your Harvard number cruncher and have him run Production vs. Cost analysis on every player and you get/keep the ones who cause wins at a lower cost. It works for the A's in Baseball.

Anyhow The Kings were never going to get Rudy Overpaid or Jose Assistmaker because of no $$$ and better talent was being offered.

I pity Petrie. Being a Kings fan and getting Maloofed has been a struggle. Imagine if you are the GM!!!

What do we have, that we would be willing to give up in exchange for half a season of Calderon, that is better than Prince/Daye? I don't see anything. Especially when you consider that in trading away Gay the Grizz were going to want at least one SF back, and that's the one position we can't really fill.

Frankly, it's the Detroit side of the deal I don't get. They're not in contention, and they've got adequate depth (Stuckey, Bynum) and youth (Knight) at the PG. But they give up their best defensive 3 and probably their highest-ceiling 3 and leave themselves with basically Singler and Nothing at the SF in order to add an expiring PG. Maybe it's rent-to-buy on Calderon, but either Singler is going to be playing 48 minutes or you're going to be seeing some Calderon-Knight-Stuckey lineups, and if they're going to do that they may as well trade for Keith Smart while they're at it.
