Houston, we have a problem...

Rockets up by 13 on the road in MoTown.

Of course, the only team playing worse than DET right now are the Kings.. so there you go

? Wouldn't that just increase their interest in a replacement scorer?

P.S. That announcement is not up at any of the websites yet. Sure you heard right? Or is it stil just a maybe.

Here it is:

The season has been a major disappointment for Tracy McGrady and the Houston Rockets. It might have just gotten worse.

The forward told ESPN.com's Stephen A. Smith on Tuesday that his troublesome left knee will end his season and that he will undergo microfracture surgery.
McGrady's name had come up earlier Tuesday in reported trade discussions between the Rockets and New Jersey Nets. The Nets were leery of McGrady's contract and health.
The seven-time All-Star had arthroscopic surgery on the knee last May and has been slow to recover. He missed much of Jannuary trying to get the knee back in shape and had an MRI last week to try to discover why it was still bothering him.
"The last couple of games, I've regressed," McGrady said during halftime of Wednesday's game. "I've felt pain."

And not just surgery - look at the part I bolded. He's done. At his age, he's done. Stick a fork in him....

Ouch.

Honestly not bad for our pick though. Sorry, TMac!

As long as they hang on to the playoffs, its good for us. Got a coach who's good at finding ways, but now everything rides on those paragons of health themselves, Yao and Ron.

If they miss the playoffs they keep the pick this year but we get it next year unprotected, right?

If it lines up that way, the Artest trade could turn out even better. If they don't re-sign Artest next year and TMAC is still out (both likely) they could be downright awful next year giving us a high pick in a better 2010 draft.

Not quite. The pick is still protected but less than before. The specifics were never released on the protection. So it could be say top 10 protected. Then the next year top 5, etc.

Houston absolutely shutting down Cleveland with their defense. Cleveland can't get anything.

That Rick Adelman. Sure doesn't know how to coach defense! Glad we fired that guy.

Ya I've been watching the game all night as well... This is the houston team I expected to see most of the season, they aren't flashy but they're punching the Cavs in the face

Rick Adelman IMO is the best current coach that can easily work patches on an injured team.

If at least Yao, Battier, and Artest continues to be healthy they'll easily continue to get that playoff spot. With now Artest and Battier handling the SF/SG spot at the starting 5, they'll easily shot down the perimeter. T-Mac was no good at defense but his their star. Now that his down, I think it's time to recognize the potential of the Artest/Battier Thug Brothers.

Remember that Ron/Bonzi Thugs in Sacramento? I think this is the closest Rick will get to that combo again. Artest/Battier is gonna be the best defensive perimeter tag team this season.

And with Bonzi lurking in the corner, maybe, just maybe Adelman will give him a call now that T-Mac is down.
