Bricklayer said:Adelman ( C ) -- we started this one out with good energy, but just could not get the execution going. And then the frustration, rushed shots, sloppy plays began to pile up and threatened to swamp us by the end of the half. Luckily the Cavs were actually playing pretty poorly as well, and politely refused to put us away. We had our chances in the second half but just... I don't know. We can never sustain. Never play any real stretches of inspired ball. And finally we just left the game sitting our there so long that LeBron just decided to pick it up and run away with it. Some of what Rick tried worked well -- thought we bothered LeBron early with a variety of defenders and defenses to keep him from getting into a good rhythm. Rick kept the unstable bench supported by a pair of starters (at least) at all times. And he drew up a nice play out of a timeout with 2:30 minutes to go resulting in a Shareef dunk to keep us within striking range. But of course with things going the way they are, what Rick did NOT do is going to draw the extra attention. A few days after threatening to shake it up, we were right back to the same rotation. Right back to playing the starters heavy minutes and saying "win it". Did not even take a look at the Corliss and Skinner duo (I undertand Corliss as there is no possible way he could guard LeBron, but Thomas sucked, and Skinner could have been a possibility if we weren't so 100% determined to solely play him at center). The team played better tonight, they tried in spurts and jerks. But at this point it is disturbing how answerless they appear to be. Effort doesn't appear to be enough. Its like they have to learn how to win all over again. Any one of these games could spell the end of the Adelman era in Sacramento I think. At this point I'm not sure it really matters. This team is going nowhere, and building toward nothing. And Rick himself is almost sure to choose to leave even if he makes it to the summer. So if it happens, it happens. And please Geoff, this time how about a REAL rebuilding plan rather than this half-assed mismatched mess we are watching now?
And that might well end up being Adelman's epitaph.
And, for the first time, I'm hoping they fire him sooner rather than later. To see someone who has done so much for this franchise slowly and inexorably spiral downward towards "redundancy" is heart-breaking. Rick Adelman deserves better...
