Yep and at that point it's on Brown to call plays to get Murray some shots.
And then it's a great chance for Keegan to develop because the defense most certainly did change on Keegan. The Warriors left him wide open off the DHO, then they put a tight defender on him. If that happens again the Kings can find other opportunities off of it, if so then, THAT'S on Brown. I still can't be OK with the Warriors putting someone like DDV on Lyles or Murray. That's a mismatch in FAVOR of Sacramento but is simply not being gone to.

I honestly think Keegan could be a genuine number 2 guy in a couple of years.
As what though? In this role? Or another? I've been watching a ton of video of Keegan from Iowa, Brown isn't giving him any paint touches or that drop step. Keegan doesn't have an array of moves, he's got a drop step. Right now, not using it equates to role player status. He's got some level of faceup game but number 2 options don't deviate when defenses change.

The question is still what is a "wing" though? If he's a wing, Barnes is a guard. Barnes can put the ball on the deck and get to the line. Modern wings HAVE to have guard skills. Wiggins is a bright and shining example on that on the other end of the floor. Murray right now looks like a wing circa 2003, not 2023. Right now he's basically a shooter like Horry (sorry, best comp I know, lol, who started his career as a SF BTW) but that might be because his coach is using him that way mostly.
Meh. Barnes has the FT ability, but he just doesn't use it enough to really "give" him that skill. He did in the 3rd quarter last night, but where was it the rest of the game? The rest of the series even?

A wing to me is anyone who's not a big or a ball-handler/creator. So, like the Kings play 4 guards (Fox/Monk/Davion/Huerter) 2 wings (Keegan/Barnes) and 3 bigs (Lyles/Domas/Len) in their rotation. Huerter is a bit of a tweener imo where he can get run at the 3, but Brown has mostly refused to play him in that slot, so he should slide into the guard category. He has enough handle/passing/creation that I think he qualifies a bit more as a guard than wing.

So when you view the team in this scope, the glaring issue is the lack of defense with the wings and the bigs. There's not a single reliable above average defensive player in that grouping.

If we do lose this series, year one of the Mike Brown era of will have been a huge success. And I think having our first series against his old team and the champs will give the team a whole lot to work on. We get our first full off-season with the coach and clear identification of what needs doing. We will come back better

That said, Kings in 7
This. Kings in 7.

The thing is though that Lyles and Murray basically fill the exact same role so if one is one thing, so is the other at least in terms of how Mike Brown uses them. Look at Trey Lyles' shot chart here:

Here's is Keegans:

With a slight bit of variance on Murray shooting a few more mid range shots, they are basically being used identically when it comes to the offense. I agree about Huerter and we've both obviously wanted to see Lyles used as a small ball stretch C a little more often. Especially against the small teams like what the Warriors are doing right now.

Honestly, it also bugs me when people call Keegan and Barnes wings. I've done it myself sometimes but I try not to as it doesn't feel right to me. The wing to me is a 2/3, and it's what Huerter is compared to Davion's 1/2 guard, Lyle's 4/5 big, and Keegan's 3/4 forward.

I don't think basketball can be boiled down to 3 positions but it can be boiled down to 4. A player's natural position and the one they flex bigger or smaller. With the 1 and 5 being the only pure positions left in basketball available because 1s have the most specialized role by far and most 5s can't flex smaller into the 4 spot.

With that being said, the difference between 2/3 wings and 3/4 forwards is the closest, and the 4/3 flex is the most important position in basketball alongside 1s.

I have been so impressed with Wiggins in this series. A guy miscast in his role as a “one” in Minnesota, he just fits in so well making winning plays for them. There is never a shot that he takes that I’m not convinced is falling when it leaves his hands.

As a competitor I can’t think we are just going to walk into chase and assume the fetal posItion. I can’t imagine this team doing that either. My question is what does it say about this team if they win tonight? Regardless of what happens potentially on Sunday. Fox having a broken finger, the Warriors having the momentum, our shooters not shooting, etc. What is your impression of this team if they win tonight? It tells me this team is a fighter, and has the ability to overcome obstacles, despite the fact we are just getting started on this ride.
