Go Matt Barnes!

Playing really well for Don Nelson in Golden State. Hit some big shots against Dallas in game 1. He's become a really nice scrap player, like a poor man's Shane Battier. I'm happy he's found a place to play and show what he can do.

That makes me really happy for him. Seemed like a nice guy. I just wish Sacramento could have held onto him... spilled milk, I guess.

Yeah, I was cheering for him, too. He was succeeding when more highly paid vets like Al Harrington were choking.

Good work, Matt!

Yep. Two things I enjoyed about yesterday's game:

1. Seeing Matt Barnes do well.

and...

2. Seeing the picture of Mark Cuban... looking like he's just eaten bad seafood or something.

I loved that shot of Cuban! My favorite look of his. :D

Major props go out to Matt. It's great to see him finally getting the opportunity to play enough to show what he can do...

I've heard that he worked extremely hard in the offseason, just trying to improve his shots.

But I'm glad that he's doing so well at Golden State. Good job Matt.

Definite props to Matt B. on adding the three-point shot to his game. Now that he is a threat to actually score the basketball outside of the painted area, he should certainly not be looking for work at the beginning of every season.

And I'm certain many Dallas fans were wondering how in the heck Matt Barnes hit the shot that basically ended their chance to win Game 4. When some saw him shooting that 3, they may have breathed a *very* momentary sigh of relief that it wasn't Davis taking that shot, but then Matt hit nothing but net, and Dallas was in scrambling desperation mode from that point on.

Speaking of Matt. Just ran across a Math project we did together in High School the other day while going through some old paper work my Mom had stashed.

Think its worth anything? :p

That dagger 3 from the corner made my family and I go nuts. Good to see he's getting some good minutes and showing what he can do.

Definitely happy for Matt! I was sad to see him go but i'm happy he's doing very very well! Keep it up!

Exactly my sentiments! Love Barnes because of his all-out hustle and enthusiasm - not to mention he can rebound!
Cuban, in his oversized jerseys and T-shirts, looks like a depressed steelworker in need of a shower.

Did he ever play like this in Sacramento? The guy is very very solid. Great ball-handling for a guy his size, good 3 point shot, has a good feel for the ball and is surprisingly athletic.

He doesn't play a position of need for us, but I'd love to the see the Rockets make a run for him. I've been very impressed with him.

Actually his shooting was not good in Sac. However, he knew he needed to work on it. When they were in Philly, Webber recommended Barnes work with his shooting coach and Matt did. He improved his shooting to an amazing degree. Its great to see his hard work pay off for him.

I didn't think they made a XXXXXL, but I guess when you got the $, you can buy just about anything, but not winning the Championship!!! :p

It's been a priceless 1st round with the mighty Mavs going down without much fight to the 8th seeded Warrior and also going down by their former coach Nellie. Why didn't we hire this guy again.....oh yeah I remember now...it was the Power Point hypnosis and the spiked Kool Aid that's right. ;)

Wow...just wow. Matt Barnes is exactly the type of player every team needs. He brings a lot of energy along with defense, passing, shooting, and solid decision-making.

He played very hard but he couldn't throw the rock into the ocean back then.
I must admit that I didn't see that much potential in him, and I still don't think that he is that good, or that he is better than anyone that Sacramento has at those positions.

His improved shooting has given his confidence a huge boost. I liked his energy when he played for us, but man, he couldn't make a basket to save his life back then.

I'm happy for him now. I kept thinking how far he's come to be walking off to a standing O after winning the series and having his teammates all hug him. Who'd have thunk it.

I loved see both the Bruins come up BIG!! Barnes was huge. Besides Davis and Jackson, who on that team was better? He looked like an All-Star out there. Barnes is a poster child for every NBA project: Keep working; you never know how good you really can be..

We were at the tail end of our run, and Matt was playing behind Peja, with Mobley at the two. He was a favorite of the fans with his hustle and all-around game, but his shot wasn't there. He was later traded to Philly in the Webber deal, and then later waived by them.

Just this past off-season he made it known he wanted to play in Sac again, and was waiting to see if that was possible before he pursue other options. Most of us wanted Petrie to sign him for his enthusiasm, but that didn't happen. Matt eventually signed with the Warriors a day before their training camp started.

My favorite Matt moment was against the Knicks in Arco. He had a steal, and assist to tie the game, then later made one of two free throws to give us a one point lead. On the last play, defending a Knicks player driving the lane, he stole the ball again and that sealed the win. This all happened within the last 30 seconds, it was awesome.

He changed his shot during the summer with the Warriors. Instead of throwing the ball over the top he lifted it from the side. He looks like the same player but his shot is much more balance and consistantly going in. Props.

Barnes stands out among overachieving Warriors

SALT LAKE CITY -- Matt Barnes is a first bus kind of guy.

Strange as it sounds, the battered bus to the arena is the closest thing the NBA has to a status symbol. Generally speaking, the visiting team makes the hotel-to-arena trek on two buses: the first, which usually arrives three hours before tip-off, contains mainly bench players, reserves who know that the practice they get before the game will almost certainly be the most work they get all night.

Starters rarely arrive on the first bus, choosing instead to take the second shuttle that gets them there about 90 minutes prior to the start. Yet there was Barnes, Golden State's lanky forward, on the EnergySolutions Arena floor, firing jump shots some 2½ hours before his team took the court for Game 2. That's starting forward Matt Barnes.

On a team filled with overachievers, Barnes just might win the fictional Mark Anthony award for his surprising success. An end-of-the-bench player for the bulk of his four-year career, Barnes has thrived in the Warriors' helter-skelter system, posting career highs during the regular season in points (9.8), rebounds (4.6) and assists (2.1). After recording just 10 three-pointers in the three previous seasons, Barnes finished 2006-07 with 106, the second most on the team.

His circuitous route to semi-stardom included stops in Los Angeles, Sacramento, New York and, most recently, Philadelphia. The only consistency in Barnes' life was that each year ended the same: with a pat on the back and a push out the door. (Says one of Barnes' former coaches, "It wasn't just us that didn't see this kind of play in him. Three other teams were morons about Matt Barnes.")

It was Barnes's stint with the 76ers, however, that had the most profound impact on his career. In 2005-06, Barnes played in 50 games for Philadelphia, averaging three points in 10.8 minutes. He also developed what can best be described as an acrimonious relationship with Sixers head coach Maurice Cheeks. According to Barnes, Cheeks would frequently degrade him, resulting in his confidence sinking to an all-time low.

"He's the biggest a------ in the world," says Barnes. "He talked to me like I wasn't a man. Other players saw it and would tell me, 'Don't let him talk to you like that.' "

After the season, Barnes seriously considered quitting basketball. An All-America wide receiver in high school, Barnes even contemplated a career in professional football, saying he had "seven or eight" NFL teams interested in bringing him in for a tryout.

"I was real close [to quitting]," says Barnes. "My teammates knew it. My friends knew it. My agent knew it. I was done."

Warriors coach Don Nelson did not know it. Nelson liked the versatility the 6-foot-7 Barnes presented and brought him in for a series of workouts last summer. Barnes impressed Nelson enough to earn an invitation to training camp on a make-good contract.

"I didn't know him, but I knew of him," says Nelson. "I told him we needed a guy like him and said good luck. He's kind of a utility guy that does a little of everything, who can play more than one position, a player you can put in the game and not hurt you."
