Getting In On The Action...

The Wizards and Rockets are trying to work out a trade centered around Tracy McGrady. Here is one that would also help out the Kings in the process

Why The Kings Do This: This would give them size, defense toughness, and a couple large expiring contracts both this year and next year. Finally the Kings would have 2 post bangers in Boozer and Blatche who could also provide some shot blocking off the bench. Kirilenko would strengthen the team defensively as well as with his passing ability, and it would be great to see a line-up of Tyreke, Omri, Kirilenko, Boozer, and Thompson rough some people up :). Plus we wouldn't have to watch Nocioni dominate the ball and blow it every 3rd quarter any more...

Why the Kings Don't Do This: Kirilenko's contract would make it tough for them to attract a free agent this summer, and although they would have the bird rights to Carlos Boozer, he might bolt or sign too rich of a deal.

Why The Wizards Do This: This would push the reset button after the last two failed seasons and the embarrasing gun issues. If they can also void Gilbert's contract (due to criminal charges) they would have enough cap space to attract 2 max free agents during the summer bananza as well as two high lottery picks without giving up their young players (Blatche for Armstrong = Meh). Furthermore, if T-Mac is healthy, as he claims, then they could resign him using his bird rights, adding another star to their team.

Why The Wizards Don't Do this: If they are looking for more established players for their vets they would hesitate, but by all accounts they are very interested in McGrady and his $22 million expiring contract...

Why Houston Does This: The McGrady experiment is over, and the team is moving on towards another improbable playoff berth. This will give them an all-star in return in Butler, as well as two more bangers inside for coach Adelman to play with.

Why Houston Doesn't Do This: They may be trying to get a Memphis level steal with McGrady's huge expiring contract, and with the economy still teetering, I bet they could find a taker.

Why Utah Does This: This move would complete their rebuild without any playoff droughts. They would be free from the Carlos Boozer hot stove drama. They would pair Kevin Martin with Deron Williams in the back court and have a 3 man big rotation of Jamison, Millsap, and Okur with Brewer, Korver, and Nocioni on the wings. This would give them life for a playoff run this year, and probably several more to come.

Why Utah Doesn't Do It: $$$$$$$

I like it in the sense that we'd be a variation of what the Jazz are doing now. Bulldog PG, defensive shooting wing (I would start Garcia), Kirilenko and Boozer of course, and the three-pt shooting softy center. I think only the Wizards would be hesitant to do this move, since they seemed to be distracted by the Gilbert affair. Once that works itself out, I'm sure things could get done. The Rockets will be fierce with that lineup. But man would they have their glut of SFs. Brooks, Ariza, Butler, Scola, and Haywood is pretty scary. Too complicated to work, but I like the end results, even if it doesn't push us over the top.

I think the Wizards actually make out pretty well in this deal, as they get the coveted Knicks 1st round pick to go along with their own lottery selection. Furthermore, with that much cap space, and a large media market, they have a good chance to attract 1-2 max level talents to rebuild around their youth with.
