Gerald Wallace

Fresno King

Starter
I've read on some message boards that Wallace will be a free agent at the end of the season. Is that true? And would we want him back? Let's say we do an Artest and Garcia for Maggette and Minnesota's 2007 1st round pick, sign Wallace next offseason, keep Bibby (who should play better if Artest is dealt), and draft a couple of post players. Wallace would take Artest's spot next season, and we could actually go with a smaller, quicker starting 5 in 07-08:

Starting 5: Bibby, Martin, Miller, Maggette, Thomas
Bench: Salmons, Price, Douby, Williamson, Abdur-Rahim, Potapenko, Hart, Taylor

07-08 starting 5: Bibby, Martin, Miller, Wallace, Maggette
Bench: Draftee #1 (post player), Draftee #2 (post player), Douby, Salmons, Thomas, Abdur-Rahim, Price

All fun and games I know, and this is if we actually keep Bibby and Miller, but I think if Artest leaves, those 2 will be the Bibby and Miller of old. KT will just have to get used to being a bench player (if he gets any minutes).

Depending on who we draft, it could be a solid mixture of young guys and veterans. We need to draft big guys next year regardless.

Fill a hole, well...maybe not even that but avoid the one that needs to be filled. We need SIZE. We need someone to protect the paint. If this franchise is truly going defense first that lineup defeats the purpose going forward.

If we draft big men, our size won't be an issue next season. I never want the Kings to be a lottery team, but if that happens, we could get a solid big to take care of the size issue. After all of the speculating, I don't think Petrie sees a big man he likes or can get via trade. I think he's going to wait until the draft to take care of that... unless Kevin Garnett becomes available.

But of the bigs in the current draft maybe 1 or 2 are ready to contribute immediately and those that are will be out of our range for sure. I expect to see some serious cap room next year or at least some good use of the MLE on a decent big. Maybe even draft one!, hell people get struck by lightening so there has to be a chance Geoff Petrie would draft a guy over 6'7". Right? ;)

I sure hope so... maybe we could sign Anderson Varejao and draft someone like Tyler Hansbrough (UNC) or Al Horford (Florida). Those guys are mid-first rounders.

Tyler is kinda like Boozer: very good player overall but other than rebounding he is no inside presence. Horford would be pretty good but he's considered mid-lottery right now.

If we seriously pursue ANYONE other than a quality power forward/center, you'll all be able to hear the screams of rage from the forest.

If we get oden then obviously that means we will be the worst team in the NBA. And therefore you will hear screams from the forest this year. ;)

If you are real quiet, late at night, you can already hear occasional screams. I'm convinced they are coming from the forest. :p

BTW - getting Oden does not mean you are the worst team.....only 1 of the worst teams and your ping pong ball got drawn.
