Teams have won rings with multiple "bigs" having three pointers account for the majority of their offensive production? I'm all ears.Well, like I said above, then there are more teams that won rings with "Nellie ball" than I thought. Better alert the 10 o'clock news. J/K.
I'll bee dat.I'll be honest. It's my humble yet firm opinion that some of you don't know how to dance in the sun because you're too busy watching the sky for clouds.
I just don't get all the fretting about Nellie ball at this point in the game. Half of these guys probably won't even be around next year. Right now it looks as though the team is buying into what George Karl is selling and that's way more important than whether or not Rudy plays stretch 4 for a couple of games. Karl is building confidence in his players and it's working. I truly don't understand the hair-pulling angst about how he's doing it.

Having a stretch 4/5 doesn't mean you play Nellie Ball. The Spurs didn't play Nellie Ball, just because they had Matt Bonner.
Glenn Robinson... Carmelo Anthony... Rudy Gay... I still have no idea whether or not Karl knows what to do with an elite big man, but damned if he doesn't know what to do with a quality small forward!
I'm not the one who called what we did tonight Nellie Ball. Take it up with that dude. And when in this game did the Kings rely on 3 pointers for a majority of the offense? If that's the definition of it that is. They took 17 3's as a team. Gay had all of 5 out of his 19 shots. If they had to win taking and making a ton like a true Nellie ball team, according to one of the many definitions in this thread that I've seen of what that actually is, then I would be right there with you, but they didn't. They utilized the spacing more than anything. That's just good basketball right there, period. Robert Horry SPACED the floor. That's what I saw today, not a bunch of chucking behind the 3 point line.
Pretty much every team at times plays what some are basically calling Nellie ball. What was it when the Spurs put Leonard at PF, or had Diaw playing minutes at C or PF? Well whatever it was it must have worked.
Call it what you want if Nellie ball get's us to a 500. season or the playoffs I don't give a poopoo. I think the difference between us (if we ever click and that type of ball works) and those "Nellie ball" teams is that we still have a elite post up option when times get tough.
A wise man once said, "Life is a joke to those who think and a tragedy to those who feel."Because it's inappropriate.
I like you.Wow at the "nellie ball" hysteria in here. It's called chemistry and ball movement, and I recall it being a staple of Sacramento basketball once upon a time.
03-04 was 100% not his fault since Jeff Bzdelick was coaching the team but I agree with the rest of the post.Is it George Karl's fault he ran into Prime KG Wolves in 03-04 (the only good team they've had in forever), Prime Duncan Spurs in 04-05 and 06-07 (both Spurs title teams I might add), First year of Kobe/Pau Lakers, and again 3 years later? Really, the only "bad" playoff loss on Karl's resume with the Nuggets was against the 05-06 Clippers team featuring Brand(who was pretty damn good at this point), Kaman and Mobley.
The fact is Karl got a ton out of a team lead by a flawed star (Carmelo) and then overachieved with a insane depth once they traded him. And as important as coaching is in the NBA, what really matters in the playoffs is who has the better elite talent. Hard to put everything on a coach when you aren't blessed with a legendary big man or wing player

ummm ... im just glad we finally have a coach that recognizes the Thompson/Landry mess at the 4, has never, and will never work. its been what, 6 years of that already?
Only took Karl 7 or 8 games
what choice do we have? until we get a competent power forward, im liking Rudy Gay right where he is
