Francisco Garcia

Hall of Famer
can we please get rid of this guy already? how many years has he been in the league now and but nothing more than worthless? use the amnesty clause on him!!!!

team player, best glue guy we've had since Divac and when given minutes, can provide some pesky defense and hit the occasional 3.

he hasn't been nothing but worthless. Has he been a superstar? No, but an average player with intangibles.

Id rather get rid of Hayes First. Then have Salmons and Garcia play Rochambeau for the right to stay on the team

glue guy, ending contract, Cisco is not the problem. Salmons, Hayes and Outlaw all represent more problematic long term investments.

You need to have 8 max contract(superstar) guys or its not a real nba basketball team....

Cisco has been defeated by injuries and most of them freak injuries. He is a good locker room presence still one of our best help defenders and can hit 3 or a few 3s sometimes. His contract also expires or has the option of expiring when we need to resign Reke. he has been with the Kings all his career and he is the type of guys you wouldn't mind keeping for cheap till he retires and becomes an assistant for you. He never developed consistency and even now sometimes looks lost(though he accepts the corner 3 point shooting role and doesn't demand more kinda like a role player should...) but how much of that is on the coaching staff just like our young guys Cisco was brought up in this environment.

Hope I didn't need to put the /sarc tag at the top.

dude his defense is horrible, watch how often he gets scored on, his 3 point shooting is inconsistent, and thats ALL he does, he does not contribute anything else. hes been in the league long enough and not improving, get him off this team hes a waste of money

i do agree that Hayes needs to go as well. that guy is completely worthless. what good is a 6'6 power forward? especially an overweight one, with no jumping ability, and no offensive game whatsoever. what a waste of money he is!

These are not a promising first pair of posts for a new poster.

You wasted your firsts posts on this? Go troll somewhere else

Agreed. Though if Outlaw start resembling anything close to his former self, or the player that finished the season with us as a starter, then that $3 million per season becomes quite reasonable and a good contract or at least one that is easily movable.

Salmons and Hayes on the other hands are K9 like!

Well he may kinda be a waste of money, but we certainly don't need to get rid of him any more than Hayes/Salmons/Outlaw. He's one of our few bench players that actually hustles and scraps. Outside of Garcia and IT our team really doesn't have any high energy hustlers, even at our 11/12th man positions.

If Outlaw and Garcia could play the way they used to I think we wouldn't have to search very hard for more SFs. A trio of Outlaw/Garcia and Twill at their "max" production levels would more than get us by.

I dunno. Compared to K9, Hayes is a bargain.

I don't see why every time someone happens to disagree with the general consensus they are branded a "troll"

hey guess what, sometimes not everyone agrees!

There's a difference between disagreeing with the general consensus and posting 2 lines in the personnel moves forum simply whining about Garcia, saying how terrible he is, and saying we should amnesty him for no other reason than to get rid of him because he sucks. Ok maybe he's not a troll, but he sure isn't very bright.

I am going to call this one early. Once Garcia's contract expires, I would not be surprised if we re-sign him to a MUCH smaller deal at the 12th or 13th man, glue guy, veteran presence sort of guy that bring strong intangibles to the table.

On his current deal he is definitely overpaid but he does bring the intangibles that IMHO, no one else on this roster brings. Hayes was supposed to be a veteran leader and he has been everything but that. Even though he has been the captain this season.

I agree. Garcia was once a very promising role player for us but unfortunately I think injuries have slowed him down a lot. What I love most about him is that he hustles, something I don't see from anyone else on our bench. How often do you see Salmons and Outlaw dive on the floor? Our young guys (Hassan, Tyler, Jimmer) don't hustle either. Tyler Honeycutt in his limited minutes seemed more intent on showing what a good scorer he was. On most teams you can expect to get pretty good hustle and energy out of your benchwarmers, but not on ours. Brockman and Darnell Jackson hustled way more than our current reserves.

It seems like Garcia has been in this current contract for 20 years. Is this the last year of it?

My money is on a combination of the two.

Its not what you say, its how you say it. Troll's tend to say things in a way thats abusive and bound to cause controversy. They try to poke sore spots that are going to get a response. And In general, if you offer intelligent opposition to what their saying, they tend to ignore it, and go on as if nothing happened. They're not hard to spot. Sometimes its the same guy under a different name using a different IP, because they've been banned before.

Saying that a popular player sucks and should be gotten rid of, is not the best way to start off a conversation. I mean, how do you respond intelligently to that? Right off the bat, he's put you in a defensive position, instead of sparking a disscussion. Having said all that, I don't think the general consensus is that we all love having Cisco on the team. But at the same time, we happen to know his history. He's a hard worker thats been hit with one injury after another. He's certainlly made the most out of his talent from when he came out of Louisville. He was never a tremendously gifted athlete, but he's always been a tough hardnosed player, thats a great lockerroom guy. He's the one that stuck up for Cuz when it was popular to look the other way. To make the general statement that he made about Cisco, is totally ridiculous, and was mean't to do nothing more than stir up emotions.

I wonder if people know what you mean by intangibles. He is a mother hen. He calls the players to make sure they are doing OK. He is very active in the background and does what a coach should be doing.

Cisco brings two positives to any team. Help defense and locker room attitude. He can't really do much else these days. I'm hoping last years 3 point efficiency was a fluke, otherwise Cisco is going to be nearly worthless from here on out.

And for crying out loud, stop falling down and acting like you broke your leg, only to come back in the game 5 minutes later slightly limping like you're some kind of hero. I'm tired of seeing this dramatic crap from Cisco every year. I used to do that kind of thing when I was in 3rd grade. Man up and get up off the damn floor and walk to the bench if you're able to be back at 100% a few minutes later. End rant.

im not a troll, just a frustrated life long Kings fan. sick of seeing worthless players overpayed to contribute nothing year after year. Hayes, Garcia, Outlaw are terrible, and Salmons if he cant get his game together. all of them need to be off this team

Excellent response. His response should speak volumes about what kind of poster he will be on KF.

I have always been a fan of Cisco but to be honest unless he has some sort of career year (unlikely) it appears his best years of basketball are behind him and his best service to the team now will be his expiring deal to help us resign Evans next season.

Hate to disagree, but if one sounds like a troll, smells like a troll and looks like a troll, well..........you get the point.

Cisco has been on Kings these years for a reason. He is the second leading shot blocker on the team in per 48 min, holds his own on defense, is decent 3-pt shooter and Kings don't have many of those and he is great with bench leadership and in locker room. Can't say that about anyone else. But he may be nearing the end of his useful time depending on potential trades. Hayes is a very good defender. On defense he can keep another center farther away from the basket than can Cuz or JT. True he is no shot blocker nor offensive banger but he was brought in for defense and that has worked. No times have changed so lets see what goes down next.

To sum up, he is pretty much a poor man's version of the SF we need. If he was a little stronger, bigger, healthier, and more athletic, he would be physically capable of manning the SF spot for us. If he was a little better defender, 3pt shooter, rebounder, and ballhandler, he would be skillfully capable of manning the SF spot for us. I see him as our ideal SF except for the fact that he comes up a little short in just about every skill we need, but again he is the correct mold of the player we need.

I agree that Garcia has been an underachiever, somewhat useless to the team, and quite a bit overpayed by Petrie. IMO, we should have rid of him a long time ago. But it is too late now and it is not wise to use the amnesty rule on him. If we are right that he is useless and no team pick him up after we amnesty him, we still has to pay his salary for the entire year.

You want us to pay Garcia if he is not even on our roster?

He is an expiring contract. His contract is very attractive to teams wanting to shed salary next year. If you want to ged rid of him, do it through trade for another player we want, but not through amnesty. Or just let him expire and use the freed cap space to get a better player.
