Food thread/what are you eating?

Have you had All'antico Vinaio? This looks like their La Paradiso. Maybe it’s a common sandwich type and I had no idea?

I have not had it but they are absolutely the inspiration for making it. I heard they have a location or two in the us now, have you had it?
 
Okay, but what's your chicken-fried steak hitting on?

Funny you should ask, I ate chicken fried steak for dinner last night from a chain breakfast place, not bad. A well known YouTube food personality makes his chicken fried steak breading with crushed saltine crackers which I would be interested in trying at some point.

I have…and sometimes I daydream about their sandwiches. It’s amazing I’m not 300lbs. 😅 Yeah, looks like they’re expanding into the US. That’s crazy. I hope they’re as good here.

There's a new place in town that we hadn't tried, so my wife and I checked out The Mix Up - Mediterranean Table here in Galt for dinner tonight. I had a ribeye kabob and a lamb kabob - they were perfect - probably the best I've ever had. The kabobs were mildly seasoned and grilled with peppers and onions. They were served over rice pilaf and a salad. I'm taking my folks there tomorrow at lunchtime as dad wanted to go as soon as I told him about the place.
 
Had to rush our 3 year old to the ER last night near midnight because he fell out of a chair and had a welt the size of a dollar bill on his forehead. Luckily he passed all the tests and was released. Needed a comforting meal to start today so made chicken and dumpling. I used to make the complete meal out of a box version back in the college days and had not made it since. Homemade version this time, so delicious.IMG_2028.jpeg
 
OK, so I just got back from a few days in the NYC / Princeton NJ area and have a few to share. First off:

The best damn soft pretzel I've ever had, by far. From the Pennsylvania Dutch Farmers Market in Kingston, NJ - was warm, soft, perfectly salted, with melted butter on top, and had a delectable pretzel flavor. They also make the (unappealing sounding) pretzel logs but they were also delicious (I had a ham and cheese log for breakfast the next morning).

A slice of Joe's Pizza from their Broadway location in NYC. Wasn't the "best" pizza ever, but it was a perfect pizza slice, if that makes sense. The crust was absolutely perfect, and the pizza tasted pretty good as well.

You can't go to the NYC area and not have a bagel of some type. We wandered over to The Bagel Nook in Princeton, NJ, and oh, my goodness, did they have some fantastic bagels. The everything bagel was probably the best bagel I've ever had, but the selection below shows a few we picked up just to try out on a whim. From left to right - cinnamon swirl, chocolate chip, maple bacon (with maple syrup, not frosting - this one was an OMG - almost a dessert bagel), flaming hot Cheeto (brought this one home for my son), and tye die (normal bagel, just fun colored). Seriously, go check them out. They also make bagel combinations with spreads, fillings, etc.

Last but not least, we stopped in The Perk in Perkasie, PA - one of their specials was the short rib grilled cheese - I'm just going to post the menu description and a photo. Very good. Prices were very reasonable here as well!

Just got back from a trip to Oregon to have Thanksgiving with my wife's side of the family. My in-laws made a very nice spread for the holiday, with prime rib instead of turkey and Yorkshire Pudding on the side as a treat. This was my first plate.

These thanksgiving plates are killing me. We haven’t had our family get together yet because we always hold it on Sunday due to work and we just got hit with 14 inches of snow that canceled travel plans. 14 inches! We had one year in the 60s where we only got 11 inches the whole year!

In Houston for a conference. I decided to ditch my coworkers to grab a burger (and a delicious Japanese lager from Jester King).
Behold the Billy F. Gibbons from Rodeo Goat. House-ground beef patty, candied bacon, gouda, caramelized onions, mango pico, cream cheese, habanero sauce, all on a brioche bun.
