Don't Make Me Use The Bat
So after the Game 7s yesterday, out of curiosity I thought I would take a cruise around some other team's boards to see what they thought. The results were no surprise if you've ever done that before:

Spursreport has a long thread titled "I Blame Pop" in which the second post already chimes in with a "if there was a worthy coach like Phil Jackson out there I would replace him" theme. They also have another thread dedicated to the idea of replacing Pop with Avery (seeing as Avery beat them of course).

Spurstalk has a number of er.."colorful" Bleep Pop threads along the same lines, including one of course dedicated to how Pop didn't go deep enough into his bench.

Clippertalk has a lengthy thread entitled "Fire Dunleavy", and a second thread about replacing Dunleavy with Larry Brown.

The only Cavaliers forum I checked of course had an anti-Mike Brown rant thread concluding he was better suited as an assitsant, and the fact the Cavs went down (according to the poster) without a fight was a reflection of the coach, and not what winners do, therefore Brown is a loser.

And can there be ANY doubt that if Avery had lost to the Spurs while smallballing, or Flip had lost to the Cavs with his 64 win team that there would be huge threads dedicated to their stupidity (and Flip's firing?). D'Antoni MIGHT have been given some leeway with the injuries. Maybe. But given the above I doubt it.

And of course much/all of the above there sure does sound familiar doesn't it? So what is it with fans and coaches? Why is every lost series a cause for a movement to fire them, no matter how decorated they are, and apparently with no regard to their acheivements in reaching and/or extending the series in the first place? Are fans, as a whole, just completely nuts, or what is the deal?

OUCH! I just gotta laugh at some of this stuff. Fire Pop? Fire Dunleavy? Replace them with who? Seriously if the clips don't want Dunleavy we'll take him!

I had a roommate a few years back who was a huge Spurs fan and he's always hated Pop. I got the impression that many Spurs fans saw him as an opportunist who only won because he had the top talent in the league (much the way many see Phil Jackson). If that's their view then its also likely they believe 3 titles isn't enough for them.

Pop's the only one I can stand and frankly, if he didn't move to a smaller line up this series would've been over in 5. I think he's a genius and there's a reason that teams won 3 champs.

Fans are stupid. That's my theory.

Although, I'm of the opinion that everything is caused by someone, somewhere, being an idiot.

Why is it that I first saw that Spursreport thread title as "I Blame Poop". Sheesh, that ten year-old boy inside of me rules sometimes.

Ironically, I think only the "Fire Saunders" cry would have carried any validity. The Spurs had a down year, really. Dunleavy's Clippers are still on the rise, but he will probably need to be replaced if they get close to title contention. He's just not a good in-game/playoff coach. Brown did well I thought. I don't like that Cavs roster, too much mismatched talent. What do the Nets fans think of Lawrence Frank?
