The “Sacramento” A’s thread 2025

Isn’t it fitting that on the night the Kings blow a 16 point lead to the Pacers the A’s open up the ballpark with a 15 point loss? I mean no disrespect, and the A’s actually look like they are going to have a fun team this year.

still, that has to be pretty cool for locals to get to experience the MLB in your town. Here’s hoping you guys get to keep them.

It’s too bad the game was a blowout but it was still so much fun! I haven’t had that much fun at a pro event since the early 2000 kings.
Talked with multiple fans from Chicago who made the trek out here for opening day in sac. They all said it was a great atmosphere and loved just how close the fans are to the players. Still can’t get over just how hard pro players throw. Padres are here next. With the hitters they have I think I’ll be laying down some cash for lawn seats!

The A’s are as good as gone in 3 years so our best bet will be expansion. If we ever got an expansion team I hope Vivek has nothing to do with it.
As of today it looks like the Rays tentative agreement on a new stadium deal in Tampa Bay has expired so at least one more team is now back on the market for a free government handout wherever they can get it.

Apropos of literally nothing more than Hey The Rays Might Be Available, if Sacramento manages to build a ballpark and snag an MLB team, and it's not called The Athletics...well, it simply can't be called The Rays. A rebranding would be necessary. I will humbly submit that in keeping with traditions where some cities have thematic sports team names that cross sports - e.g. St. Louis Cardinals/Cardinals (defunct), Chicago Bears/Cubs, Dallas Cowboys/Mavericks/Rangers, Miami Dolphins/Marlins, Cincinnati Royals/Kings (coincidental, actually), Indianapolis Pacers/Colts (also coincidental...huh), New York Giants/Giants (defunct)/Titans (defunct), etc. - that we should name any MLB team the Sacramento Crowns. Just a long-winded thought.

The thing is I don’t think they are. Even if Fisher does manage to get the money together to build in Vegas AND he doesn’t have a change of heart and decide to squelch on his cut of the stadium money, the timeline they’ve put together doesn’t seem particularly viable so it feels like the A’s are probably here more than three years at the very least.

I feel like the Solon name has enough history behind it that it would end up being a strong contender for a baseball franchise name. Also government themed like Republic FC and the Kings (sorta).

Or another way to go would be a Chess theme? Shaq forever spoiled Queens as a team name for me and Pawns have negative connotations. Bishops likewise might not be universally embraced but Rooks or Knights seem like they could work. I was a fan of the indoor soccer team called the Knights back when they existed. And Rooks is perfect as a re-brand for the A's or the Rays anyway since they only ever keep players on rookie deals amIright? :)

31 runs(and counting) in less than 13 innings must be a record for the first 2 major league games at a “new” ballpark.

Coors Field is no longer the leagues sandbox.

they might have to call this park Natural Ice Field or Pabst Blue Ribbon Park

Guys pitching like they’re still in Oakland. There’s no marine layer to keep flyballs down here boys.
listened to an MLB podcast today and the mlb insider said he was speaking to a major league rep at the game last night and he said he doesn’t think this will work for 3 years. The guy asked the rep what’s the alternative and the rep had zero answer.
MLB has painted themselves into a really bad situation. When the heat hits that ball is gonna fly even further. The scores are gonna be ridiculous.
However., looking at some final scores yesterday, 7-5, 8-3, 9-7, 7-0, seems that scores are up throughout baseball.

Is it feasible to move the fence back a bit there? 325 down the lines is too short for that location

Well, through two games, the average team in Sutter Health Park is hitting 2.5 home runs per game. Through four games, the Yankees, using their "torpedo" bats, are hitting 4.5 home runs per game. So I'm not sure that the Sacramento A's home park is the biggest potential issue so far this year

Didn't one of the Yankees using a normal bat out homer his teammates? Is it not possible the problem is the Brewers pitching?

I honestly don't know. Saw the furor over the bats, but didn't track down exactly which players were using them. But at least part of my point is that we're still playing Extremely Small Sample Size Bingo so it might be premature to say that SHP is an extreme hitter's park.

LOL, and right after I typed that I see that the Cubs dropped another 4-spot in the second inning of a day game.

I hate the Yankees so all I know is that my outrage was tempered by the fact that every team will have them shortly if they are all that special. And Aaron Judge is not using them and had 4 homers over the period everyone was flipping out.

Back when I was still an A's fan I wanted Seiya Suzuki to come play for Oakland more than I wanted any other player before not named Shohei Ohtani. So in a bittersweet way, seeing that he hit 2 HRs in Sacramento today is a kind of closure that I didn't know I needed.

A bit over 8,000 at sutter health today. It’s been a steady tail off of attendance.
Personally I paid $125 a ticket to go to the first game which is ridiculous but it’s the first mlb game here in sac so I figured what the hell. Now, from here on out, no way in hell am I paying that for a baseball game. Those prices are going to have to seriously come down in order for me to attend more games.
