ESPN Predicts Kings finish 30-52

ESPN has us finishing 30-52, and 13th in the West, ahead of only GS and Minn. That seems like a pretty lowball prediction to me. If we had a couble breaks last year, and Tyreke hadn't been injured a few times, we probably would have challenged 30 wins last year, although we wouldn't have Cousins to show for it.

Based on guys like Tyreke, Donte, Omri, and JT all being a year older, and Carl having a full training camp with the team, that alone should bump our win total from 25 to 30. Then when you add Dally and Cousins to the picture, and our beefed up frontline, IMO, that adds another 4-8 wins. I would think a conservative estimation would be between 35-38 wins.

I'm sick of reading one prediction after another from the so-called "experts", which in general, I don't agree with at all. If we win only 30 games, and our guys are healthy for the most part, this season would be a failure. I don't see us making the playoffs, but I expect us to be in the conversation into Feb, if not March, and fully expect us to pass 35 wins at a minumum.

Just five more wins than last year? No way, not with health to our key players. I say 39-42 wins this year, no worse than 10th in the West.

Too low. Insulting. Tyreke finding a jump shot at all = 10 more wins by itself.

I feel like there where a lot of close winnable games last year that experience could have tipped things in our favor.

You know, I would be more annoyed if the predictions for the rest of the conference weren't about the most gutless namby pamby I have no vision and nothing to say collection I have seen. He predicts us to be +5 in wins this year, and that's the second biggest jump in the whole conference according to him (Clippers are +6). Its actually a compliment in his world. He has the teams all finish almost exactly how they did last year, and almost everybody is within +3 to -3 in wins. That is fairly preposterous. Its as if he no idea, just threw up his hands, and to be completely and utterly safe just decided to copy/paste last years standing with minor tweaks to make it look new.

Since it's supposed to be a composite of the predictions of nearly 100 ESPN contributors, I have to figure a bunch of them have us down in the 20's, because many of the ones paying more attention have to have us up in the 30's. I'd say that method is largely to blame for the lukewarm and redundant predictions. Individuals may have more vision or opinion, but mash it all up and you pretty much get last year's standings spat back out at you. ;)

ah, I did not know it was a composite. So yes, that does make a kind of sense then -- its what you would expect if you took the averages of a large gropup of people rather than the predictions of 1.

Agree.. It's like he didn't even try or something.. Boss told him to get the prediction article in his email by the end of the day and the guy totally forgot he had a month to complete it and finished it in an hour or two while just going off of last year or something...

Kings will probably finish somewhere between 35-40 wins.. If I had to guess an exact humer I would say 37 wins.

EDIT: oops.. Composite... Just read the above.. OK.. Well it's correct that a lot of people don't have a clue.

Seems like a reasonable estimate. Just a tad low for me though. I'm feeling about 32 wins right now. That's almost a 30% increase in wins from last year. I think we're about a year away from doing the quantum leap that OKC did last year.

Even allowing for all that, it probably indicates that a good chunk of the pool is lazy, which I guess shouldn't be surprising. :p

I don't know which is more insulting though. Us finishing with 30 wins, or us finishing ahead of only GS and Minn?

The win/loss prediction I can chalk up to "misinformed journalists" who just simply haven't done their research. But to rank us #13 out of 15 in the West? Personally, I don't see LAC, Mem, NO, and Pho all finishing ahead of us. OKC will not take anyone by surprise this year so we have to see how they respond. Utah got better with Big Al. Houston, who knows? depends on Yao.

But what do I know? I don't work for ESPN.

I tried to search on thier wbesite but couldn't find it..

Is there a place to see thier predictions last year, also for the ROY and all thatr other stuff?

Using our search engine, which is of course far more awesome than espn's, it does not appear we had a thread on ESPN's predictions last year, and if we had I'm sure it wouldn't have been pretty considering the season we were coming off of. :)

However I did come across this, and remember this thread well at the time, of ESPN's predictions for ROY: http://www.kingsfans.com/forums/showthread.php?33331-ESPN-gives-Reke-no-votes-for-ROY&highlight=ESPN

It will take at least 50 wins to get into the playoffs more than likely. I am guessing we could be knocking on .500 this year.

it seems low but its like an average from like 90 writers... at least enough of them think that the team will be better than they were last season which is a plus.

I fully agree with you that most (if not all) of us don't have a clue. But wait... applying that same logic - what does that say about YOUR previous statement?

They probably made the safe choice with Griffin(pre-injury), and will probably make an argument this year when he has a good year, but who knows.

haha thanks :D only 1 vote!, although theres a guy down at the comments who called tyreke! guess he was right :D

I hope DMC don't get any this year too then!

They also picked RJ for "the best newcomer" - and Zach Randolph as "the worst newcomer" :D

I think rekeDMC playing two on five could prob get 30 wins. :D But yeah 30 is to low, I think 36-44.

Dammit, we should get Rev Run and DMC to come out to do a song during starting lineup announcements for 'RekeDMC' on either opening night or Nov. 3rd against the LAL's. C'mon Joe and Gavin, make it happen!;)

Edit: And yes, I think RekeDMC alone is worth 30 wins! :D

yep, reke and boogie should set the floor at 30 wins. Considering what we have around them and the fact we got a lot bigger 30 wins will be achieved

Effing ESPN - I have the Kings getting 100 or more wins this season!

anything over 35 wins would be a great season

0.500 would be phenomenal

we will not make playoffs - get over it

I will not! Not until it is a certainty. There's a saying 'that's why they play the games'. I don't think it is wise for you to tell people that something that has not happened is a certainty and for us to 'get over it'. It's kinda rude, not to mention unless you have a crystal ball we are not aware of, it is blatantly wrong at this point. Not trying to be a Richard, just saying.
